This duet was pre dimash stardom. Sundet Baigozhin is a famous khazack opera singer and on a competition in russia. Before the final they are required to do duet. He choice dimash which was unknown at that time. This was meant for sundet voice to show since he was the competitor. Dimash was meant as a compliment to showcase sundet operatic voice. And they succeeded. He won by the way.

I ve heard Dimash can heal people by his voise. And one day, in the morning I felt that myself. One morning I went to buy food, but as I was in a hurry, I did not have time to have breakfast.I have gastritis, and I felt pain in my stomach on the way, I felt bad. But I took my headphones to listen to English.I was going to take an exam in English, FCE Cambridge. I could not listen to English, it hurt me ,stomach pain was growing . I turned on the song of Dimash ´´Know´´. At the end of the song, I no longer felt pain. Until the end of shopping, I continued to listen to Dimash's songs. Dimash is his alter ego. It’s an internal conflict. Froto character was having internal conflict between giving up his priesthood and chase the girl he loves (Dimash in liberal pop sound) or stays with the church (Sundet in conservative opera sound). At the end, he ‘kills’ his doubt self and chase the girl. Dimash wins.

This performance took place on November 13, 2016 in Moscow at the show "Big Opera". Dimasha is 22 years old. Sundet Baigozhin - Kazakh opera singer. He was a part of this show. Sundet invited Dimas to sing a duet from the musical "Notre Dame de Paris". This is a French-Canadian musical based on the novel by Victor Hugo. Musical composer - Riccardo Cocciante. Sundet wanted Russian viewers to see Dimash. They learned this song in French in a short time. It turned out to be a very good duet. Gosh this is old, its from 2016 and Dimash was only about 20 here. This was an opera contest show and the Baritone Sundet Baigozhin asked Dimash to come and join him in this piece. The part is not really a duet but it was rearranged so that Dimash could join him, I think they are playing the same person and its an internal battle. Sundet is a friend who sings at the Astana Opera, the same one that wanted Dimash to join them, but he respectfully declined and Dimash was happy to help Sundet with this duet. This was before Dimash went to China and became a superstar. 💖

I've viewed this performance dozens of times. This is one of my favorite Dimash duets. One of the commenters from a previous reaction provided a possibility that makes perfect sense about this duet instead of solo rendition . Sundet Baigozhin playing the Monseignuer Frotto character in this performance is battling himself and Dimash plays his alter self, but only one self can remain, hence one self kills the other.

BTW, criticism of Dimash is legitimate- you're a musician and vocal teacher! Perfection is always the goal, rarely attained. Dimash did take a Broadway Musical master class in 2009. You are correct this song is usually a solo sung by Frollo in the opera.

My view of this performance is that although they borrowed a song from "Notre Dame", the premise of the song has been altered and this scene cretates a new entirely separate context. Likely the idea for this new scene spung from, and the scene also hinges on, the phrase "tu vas me detruire". Where in the previous context this phrase was directed at Esmeralda (in an internal monologue) it now refers both to the woman two rivals are obsessed with and to the other rival, as they are duelling for her with "pistols at dawn". So here, the song is still internal monologue but of two men simultaneously in the moments leading up to the shot being fired. Making it into a duett in this way sets them up as opponents, yet they share the same obsession and in this they are both victims to their love of the same woman. It is very clever and beautifully reimagined. Love this scene. By the way, The baritone is "Sundet", also Khazak I believe, who is having a successful career as an opera singer.

What we are seeing, experiencing and living as Dimash's "dears" is nothing less than a super nova of creativity manifesting itself in human form. Someone as artistically powerful and creative as a Ludwig Beethoven, a Leonardo da Vinci or Albert Einstein in the realms of singing, composing and musical influence. It‘ s from 2016. There is a channel „Культура» (Culture) in russian TV. They make a program „Большая опера» (Big opera) since 7(?) years. It‘s an art of competition from opera singers, not only russian. And this a part of season 2016. Elena Obraztsova, a great soviet-russian mezzo was in the jury in a few seasons till her death. I am a great admirer of the cross over style of Dimash. I greatly enjoyed your reaction to the operatic style in this video, and of course, Dimash can do it all, as was seen in the I am a Singer Contest in China. That said, would you please listen to Zhou Shen, a contestant in the 2020 contest. This young man has the sweetest voice while singing Time to Say Goodbye. I really have never heard such a sweet sound, and I have listened to many versions of this song. He also sings Babe, in which he shows off his operative voice, and The Lonely Goatherd, which has a Chinese title, and has to be the humor piece, similar to Uptown Funk it up that Dimash sang. I know how busy you must be, and if you are listening to Dimash, you might not have time for others, but this young man is special too. I think you might be pleasantly surprised. Of course, he is not Dimash, but he deserves a wider audience too.

Thank you for the great reaction! Actually, I beg to differ regarding the French language since I speak and sing it fluently, having grown up in Paris. I understood Dimash better than Sundet. Dimash intentionally hammered it here to intensify the passion of the meaning. He was then quite young, around 20 I think. You can hear how much he has developed his baritone range in more recent recordings such as in his trio Ti Amo Cosi last year. Though I suspect he always had that type of tone, judging from the snippets we can hear from early recordings. I think here he intentionally wanted to sound clearly different from Sundet, since they were supposed to represent two different characters, he might have been asked to use his tenor voice. Just assuming... This particular production was a modern twist on the original solo by the character Claude Frollo who struggled within himself between his avocation as a priest and his passionate attraction toward Esmeralda. Here they changed the time to 19th century snd the struggle to one between two men. At the end, one vanquishes the other. We can guess which one represents which.

I am not sure if you already knew this was a performance from 2016 when Dimash was only 22 years old. His voice was still developing back then and has now become even more masterful. Especially his low register has been significantly better and more developed in the past two years than it was back when this was filmed.... I don’t know , maybe I misunderstood you, but the way you worded yourself made it seem like you thought maybe this was somewhat recent when it is actually quite old? I mean he was extremely remarkable back then in 2016 too, but he is even more so now, especially with his low register, he is magnificent currently. For his lower register for example you can react to “Passione”, or maybe one of his most recent ones like “I Miss You”. By the way, I searched through your videos but couldn’t find your reaction to two of his best thus far, which are “Love is like a dream” and “Sinful Passion”, both of which will be great choices for you to react to, because they show his technical expertise in every way and his overall range. So please react to them, when you can.

Here we go again ! I'm french so I'll help ! The song was at first a solo by Daniel Balavoine he was playing the priest Frollo. This character has the dilemma of chasing the girl he likes (Esmeralda, a gypsy), or staying the church. The idea of passion in this kind of way comes from the very european vision of passion, or in italian passione "the one that suffers". Passion in a lot of ancient art is seen as destructive so it really creats those case of being overwhelmed. As seen in a comment, Dimash represents the side of Frollo wanting to chase the girl (that's why he is more in a pop style) Sundet is more traditional in his singing and is dressed in grye/black for showing the church.

I also think that neither sounds French, contrary to what the commentator says. Dimash is obviously not but the other guy is definitely not French and some of the words he is singing are hard to understand. He has more of a Spanish or Italian accent when he sings in French.
