Mahesh kale, we all Indians are so proud of him. He is Maharashtrian I am from his state so mine proud is little big😀. What he is singing from "katyar kalajat ghusali" a musical film, obviously in Marathi language. You acknowledge the music is so powerful but you will like it 10time more if you understand the lyrics. The lyrics meant somewhat the creation is full of sound and it is pure music, the chaos and even peace is a "swar"(musical note) and eventually it balance itself and everything. he is praising that and become devotee. Its really difficult to translate it in exact English but Just two core lines 1. "swar katyar kalajat ghusude" which means a musical note(which is in the form of little sword) goes into the deep down into the heart. 2. "Sur niragas ho" means a very tone of musical note will become so much innocent.

Oh hey that's me! I am honored and glad you chose to react to this. It was a pleasant surprised and I'm happy you enjoyed it. In Indian classical music, much like any other culture, your voice is essentially an instrument. Here, he keeps rhythm with the musicians while also literally singing out notes from the Indian scale (sa re ga ma pa dha ni sa). The expressive "vibrato" usually denotes intense emotions such as longing, pain, worship, sadness, joy, etc-which is why they can range from that slow drawl to that very last pitch that almost sounds like a loud cry.

@aayushbapat37193 жыл бұрын
@@TheShshr haha ok. What I was trying to say that their music is not classical music but only uses classical mechanisms like gamak, meend, murki etc. You should hear them sing any Khayals (Raag) they cannot expand upon alaps, go into madhya laya and deliver good drut performances (to sing a raag well for 40-50 mins). The patience and imagination as well as the intellectual faculty is severely lacking. In mahesh kale's case so is the riyaz. They've been made famous because of their gimmicky approach to music without any vistar and thehrav. Take Kaushikiji's example - while she is great at vocal acrobatics...it is strongly based on good grounding of classical knowledge..she is equally impressive in alapi and madhyalaya while also being pitch perfect. That is true classical music - Raga understanding, Bhaav understanding, Vistar/Thehraav, slow unfolding and then going to fast taanas which are correct and appropriate for the raag being sung not just a hotchpotch. Which is why when you hear even the fast compositions of the greats - it sounds composite and sublime, understanding of music and not playing to the gallery.

You might wanna get in touch with Mahesh Kale directly as he is a musician to the heart, and a very down to earth person.. he also teaches classical Indian music to students throughout the world... This particular song is from a play (later also made into a movie) "kattyar kaljat ghusli" (heart peirced by a dagger).. he has provided the voice for the protagonist in the movie version.. all the songs in the movie are heavenly... They have also smartly included some of the original songs from the play in the movie, because the original composer of the music for the play was a stalwart in the industry widely know for his musical plays... Indian classical music is actually a play where the singers use their voice to create melodies to match the instruments being played...and words may not always be part of the song.. only variations and sounds

Levine, amazing commentary of the vocal techniques (as perceived by you in your best capacity) in this use-case performance and hats off to your effort at grasping the Indian Classical Music. The best part is you tried to understand his vocal apparatus strategies very sincerely and the highlight is your comment on Mahesh going off-key at the end! You put it positively and could step in his shoes empathetically. Of course Mahesh is a great young artist we all Indians are proud of, but what you experienced is very typical of Indian Classical Vocals and also a characteristic of this genre. This is merely a tip of the iceberg. Nothing to take away from Mahesh though. Probably this is your first ever encounter with Indian Classical Vocals in general and a 'Tarana' in particular (most part of what Mahesh sang). If you can endure the very - very slow tempo part (usually first 30 min of a musical solo), Do explore other classical maestros of Indian Music like Pundit Rajan Sajan Mishra, Pundit Bhimsen Joshi, Pundit Jasraj, Kishori Tai Amonkar, DV Paluskar, Baal Gandharv, Ajay Chakrawarty, Kaushiki Chakrawarty... You will have something to keep exploring for a few lives actually. In your own words, we all have given many such performances of other genres a pass because of our own visual biases....which is unfortunate and I feel we should explore such treasures of the world genre with an open mind. .. being artists. 1Tb of thanks for this lovely review!

I've been learning Indian Classical Music since 12 years (with gaps, I've been under professional guidance for first 5 years and since the last year, the other time i practiced on my own). Istg if I am able to sing even 1% of this, I'll be content throughout my life!! Also, I've been learning under MKSM... The music school run by Mahesh Kale himself 🤩🤩

Om is the music of universe continuously going on and everthing in universe has a rhythm as per satya sanatan vedic dharma...music is god....so it is difficult to understand for others how they sing because it is a spiritual,ritual thing for us...connecting soul with divinity...others explaings physical throat, tonuge, diaphram,vocal,breath etc...when a divinity connected i.e. the x factor that could not be catched by any machine of science gives and creates such music.... All explaination is meaningless for supreme power...Indian vocalist and singers have power in theris music and voice to enlighten lamps and give life to dead plants.... Proud to be Indian and thankful to god for giving me birth here with power to listen and understand the music...the divine universal language.🙏

If you really liked this. You should listen to Supremo Maestro - Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. You WILL experience nirvana. Pandit is a honorific title equivalent to grandmaster in the Western Hemisphere.
