0:34 the reason the harmony there wasn’t the best is because song actually doesn’t go that way. In this performance they skipped to a certain part in the song so that the song wouldn’t be too long. Also Danielle brooks and heather headley don’t normally sing that part in the musical. They only sang it in this performance to showcase their voice in the award show.

One of my favorite parts of this song is you can here her stomp on her microphone... she is living this character. She is Celie here.
