Wait I love Ben Platt!!!! Thank you for this great video, Songs From A Suitcase. Dear Evan Hansen is just such a beautiful musical and I believe that it deserves far more recognition. Ben Platt did not win enough awards for this role!!!! He deserved every single Tony!!! When Ben Platt wore that cast in the show Dear Evan Hansen I felt so seen. As someone who has broken my arm I was so glad to be represented. Every single time Ben Platt hit those high notes an angel got their wings!!!! I Am Mormon.

Cried when I was watching it live. I happened to be with my parents and they were like “it’s good” and started talking… my response “you’re ruining this for me!!” Lol But seriously felt so much emotion and loved that you could feel it through this more “pop-ish” version. So many things to love about this performance. And this is most likely a very unpopular opinion but I think Simon could have been feeling emotional from the performance and that’s why he wasn’t originally clapping

It's the first time I'm seeing your video and you have nailed every single things that I felt while I saw that amazing performance, immediately falling in love with the performer and of course the song! I don't know how to tell you this but around me, I could not have talks like that, "hmmm that breathy voice there, that broken subtle voice on that note hmmm and god did you hear that he just went from full on open voice to a super calm one just like that ohh..." anyway I hope you understand what I mean. As amazing as Ben Platt is (and he REALLY is), I still can't help but be a little disappointed that he fought so hard to retain that star role for the movie. Even disregarding the weird age thing, knowing when to step back and let other's get their moment in the sun is such an important part of the social aspect of musical theater.

And that's because the part was allowed to grow. Change isn't a bad thing, there is always room for improvement, and nothing, not even an originating role, is better off staying stagnant. Again, Ben Platt is incredible, and no one is saying "he can't do the role anymore", just that moving on is alright too.

They should have gone with a younger actor. I find the de-aging technology extremely distracting and it was all I noticed when looking at him in the trailer. Every play and musical, including this one, has been and will continue to be updated and re-cast. I would have done the same here, but I’m sure his performance will be great and he’ll get tons of awards and nominations.
