If Billie's ex has just called her and he's been a source of sorrow and pain - why should she sound happy - she was happier before the phone call. I think the first 2:29 is Julie London and Peggy Lee kind of material with a 50's ( or 60's ) decor - I love it. And the 2nd 2:29 is mind boggling. I would disregard the skeptics and naysayers - I don't believe it's a flop; it's different. The passion in the 2nd 2:29, might be hard to express without the "F" word - she is pouring herself out - for YOU ... and me ... and millions of others. Billie has - I believe - a Muse in her that is unique and authentic and FINNEAS helps to clear a path for Billie's vocals and for her to emote. The kind of reductionism that says either this must be on a par with WWAFAWDWG or it's a flop ... I don't think that does justice to most artists. I've never heard her use the "F" word in a song prior to this album - I'm wondering what words are used in place of the "f" word so that a song can be played on the radio. I'm glad the 2nd half of the song redeemed it for you and you were able to give a thumbs up at the end.

It feels like a torch song and the lyrics remind me of Patsy Cline. I have felt the same way about several of her songs and then boom… the tone changes and I am in awe. And in tears. I don’t think that this song would be what it is without the beginning. It’s the contrast between fantasy and reality. It’s cathartic and freeing . Ugh, I just love them both.

I wish you listened to the whole thing first to see what the story is. This song is about an emotional breakdown. The person that caused it. It's incredibly brilliant. She's no "cookie-cutter" artist. She is a revolutionist. She's a rebel from tradition. Her career is exploding faster at the speed of light. It's because people have been waiting for that new sound, a new rhythm. The record company took a chance and it's paying off big time. I'm a musician and have studied music for 60 years! I've been through every transitional period of music genre's. This is awesome artistry.
