Just wanted to throw in here that listening to you talk about the artistry behind the different styles of singing, whether it be light and airy or full and loud made me tear up a little. Throughout high school and college I was constantly being told in order to be "good" at singing I'd have to master the latter, and it was so disheartening when I just didn't enjoy the techniques as much. This video was amazing and personally validating ❤ Love Billie, love your commentary, and love the content you put out

I know this video was out a while ago. But she is singing differently because this is a different orchestra, a little bit of a different arrangement. So maybe she’s changing it up to match the arrangement. She sounds different, when she sang with Hans Zimmer.
@jadesmind16532 жыл бұрын
i genuinely think that she has always been able to sing like that, since she's got a history of vocal training. Maybe she had to kind of sacrifice her belting in her music because of her stylistic choices, that ultimately made her famous and to have that much control in such breathy voice, runs and high notes its no joke, but now that she is switching styles she is able to include other parts of her voice. She just hits those high notes so naturally i mean there's no way she just learned that hell no, but probably had to dust up the pipes to be consistent live. Anyways she absolutely killed this performance, this fuller and darker sound is my favorite on her (same with happier than ever) and I'm very excited to see what her new music brings. Lots of love from Spain Tristan, amazing video!!

I guess other people wouldn't know that if they hadn't done the endless Billie deep-dives like us die-hard fans have 🤪 Although I do agree that her voice has matured as in sounds more adult now than child, however, she has always had this vocal ability that she shows here.

I love that you clarify that Billie's 'breathy' vocal qualities aren't 'weak', just a different stylistic choice. Billie started this song using a lot of breath in the sound, but it was clearly planned out where she would take her breaths using that style. As the song progressed she used less air and more closure to change the sound, so she has command of her technique, whether 'breathy' or 'full' sounding :) I loved watching this performance! She has so much skill, and such fascinating musical intuition that comes through in her style!

I think Billie has always had more versatility to her voice than people realize. I think where she is growing as a singer is in her level of confidence. And I think touring is giving her more and more confidence on stage to use/explore her voice in different ways in front of large audiences. Also, you are right that Billie and Finneas aren't going anywhere. But I would argue that the greatest predictor of their potential longevity is their ability as song writers. They're better writers than most of the pop artists (and the writers who write songs for the pop artists). While I think Billie is a lovely singer, she didn't win the Oscar for her singing voice. She and Finneas won because it's a really well-written song. The lyrics are strong. The arrangement is well-done. And, yes, their singing is good. They will be asked to write more songs for more movies in the future. And they'll win more Oscars and more Grammys. And if they get tired of performing, Billie and Finneas are talented enough that they could have a career writing and producing songs for other artists. They have a long career ahead of them.

I feel like she’s starting to showcase more of her vocals because a lot of people were critical towards her and her sound. I always heard negative reviews against her vocals and songs. I’ve always thought she was a great singer. Not everyone has to be Celine or Mariah or Carrie Underwood or whoever can belt to be a great singer. And I’ve noticed Billie is very selective where she brings out her vibrato and belting notes instead of being Willy nilly with those notes. And I find that more interesting.🤷🏽♀️

Something about the way she sings it now is giving me Sinead O'Conner. No idea WHAT or WHY. I also think it's just the way she's aged is what's making people say she's singing differently. Most of her songs were recorded years ago when she was a kid. When I turned 18 my voice changed pitch in what felt like it happened overnight and notes that were difficult to reach became incredibly easy while others that were easy became ABSOLUTELY untouchable. I used to hit that sharp as heck F in "Lovin' You" by Minnie Riperton for laughs and then one day I just cracked every time I tried...so NO MORE PARTY TRICKS FOR ME.
