Ok, I've been a fan of you and a subscriber for quite a while, but this is the first time I've seen this video of yours. Around 5 minutes you made a point that made me understand something so clear. For so long I have been so obsessed with bass singers, mainly because I settled in between a tenor and Baritone, more so on the tenor side. But my obsession started because of your point exactly. Society does not revere bass voices the same as the high note wonders.(note pentatonix for the most amazing high note male singer ever to be born, you know who I mean if you deserve to) I always thought I didnt have a "man's" voice. So when I started to hear these masculine, super-human voices I thought, they deserve to be revered. Hearing you say the same thing I've been thinking for the last 2 years means you just gained so much street cred in my book.

Two songs that illustrate Tim's range. "Hillbilly Bone", where his lead is often lower than the singer carrying the bass line and "Mayday", where Tim starts off with a falsetto lead as strong as tenor Rob Lunquist's second verse.

I remember him tweeting it in reply to two fans kind of 'fighting' over who sang the first verse. One of them said it was Tim singing in falsetto, and the other replied with: "It's not Tim. It's Rob. Tim can't sustain that high." 😂 Tim first said something like: "You'll have to wait for the music video to find out.", but later on, he tweeted: "This amuses me... And btw, it ain't falsetto until about 0:30 in." Personally, I was shocked that some people couldn't tell it was Tim singing, but the funniest thing was that some people didn't believe it was Tim singing even after the video was released. They thought Tim lip-synced to Austin singing, and Chance lip-synced to Tim singing (with his low note). 😂

Since I'd been a fan of the Sing-Off since it started I recognised Chance as the bass from Street Corner Symphony. That low note wasn't a surprize to me but the weird stereo effect on it was. Chance is a brilliant addition to the group but it's a shame Chris needed to leave. Home Free was his baby.

@Monika S. Man, that is impressive. My range goes to the high end of base (I can hit the uppermost notes of the base range but not low enough to call myself a base) and up to the upper end of high baritone but, going that high and NOT going falsetto is super impressive.

Adam Rupp is much more than just a beatbox. He stole the show when I saw them live. He came up with some effects that vibrated the entire theatre in his VERY long solo! Can't wait to see these guys again!

The bass is Tim Foust and he's not just a bass, but a great singer as well, he has a wide 5-octave range. Home Free is an acapella Country group, but they add more beat to country , and also covers of pop songs they put a country spin on them. Please check out more of Home Free, I suggest "Man Of Constant Sorrow" or for their great harmonies "How Great Thou Art" They have videos, and also live performances of these also. Thanks.

I have not read back in the comments, so I don't know if anyone has given you any facts about these guys. First Tim Foust has a 5+ octave range, and he was born and raised in Texas. Hence the natural southern twang to his voice, and BTW- he also talks this low, too.. The high tenor, Austin Brown comes from southern Georgia, where he was also born and raise. And yes, he's as southern as they come, too. The other three here, Rob Lundquist (lead tenor and guy with full beard), and the brothers and also co-founders of the group are Chris Rupp(baritone and guy with cowboy hat), & Adam Rupp (the beatboxer) are all from Minnesota. Chris Rupp was replaced about 3 years ago, to pursue a solo career. He was replaced with Adam Chance who hails from the most southern part of Alabama. He sings mainly in the baritone/bass range, but he does have a 4 octave range, also. These guys are all very excellent vocally, but they also have the ability to mimic several musical instruments, too. Tim the guitar and trumpet, Adam Chance can do a jew harp sound that sounds so real. Austin can do a train's horn and a harmonica, also. Rob can whistle and stay on key no matter what the song may be and can do the scratch of a turntable sound. And Adam Rupp (The beatboxer) well it's better just say we're not quite sure what he can't do. He plays the drums, harmonica, a turntable, a didgeridoo, bird sounds, and so many other things that it'd take all day just to list them all. But if you watch their newest video of "Men Of Constant Sorrow" It will show you some of these things I just talked about. Adam Rupp was awarded the title of "Best Beatboxer Of The World" title, which was voted on by his peers a few years ago. Sorry, didn't mean to make this into a huge novel, but I wanted to give you just a few facts about these guys. Thank you! I really enjoyed you take on things.

Home Free has some pretty impressive talent. I would love to hear your impression for more of them when you have the time. Their arrangement for Do You Hear What I Hear is chilling every time, and Castle on the Hill, Love Train and Man of Constant Sorrow are hard to stop singing. So are some of their originals. Thank you for doing Home Free! Tim has a 5 octave range and can sing lower than that (A0). Adam is a world class beatboxer (check out his live solo videos).Their best a cappella harmonies are "How Great Thou Art" (do first please) and "Helplessly Hoping". "Do You Hear What Hear" is has one of the best arrangements done by their beatboxer. They just put out a video for "Man of Constant Sorrow" which is incredible. They are all so talented and have a wide variety of songs/videos so you can't go wrong with any of them. Thank you for the video. Please do more Home Free!!!!

you are right about the sub-woofer... before I married I used to listen to Home Free through the speakers of a simple JVC-system (linked my laptop to it with a double-jack cable)… but my husband has an almost professional set-up with a sub-woofer that makes you feel the notes (amazing home cinema effect, love watching movies)… and the first time I listened to Home Free on that system it nearly scared me to death (didn't help either that I was using the wooden casing above the sub-woofer as a seat)… I just love it!!! Home Free is indeed best listened with one hell of a sub-woofer

Tim's range is just insane. Not only extraordinal low notes, he is also able to sing really high notes. His chest voice goes all the way down to lower 1st octave, and up about high C and covers 3.5 octaves. With using growl and falsetto, his range becomes 5 octaves…!

Now as I mentioned in a comment on one of your earlier videos, Tim Faust has a 5 octave range, if you want to hear how _high_ he can go, you should listen to *'Mayday'* and/or *'All About That bass'* . I especially would like you to see their cover of *Mayday by CAM* its one of my favorite songs from them. Also they use some difficult sounding layering at the end that really exemplifies accapella as an art.

This was the "The Sing Off" a capella competition, the year after Pentatonix won it. Home Free won their year, and have gone to a KZbin popularity, just like Pentatonix did. You should watch their video of "How Great Thou Art", filmed in the Alps. The video itself is beautiful, not to mention the great singing.

I saw them in concert last month and they sang this. Tim's voice vibrates through your body and vibrates the seats with his low notes. I loved them before I saw them and love and adore them even more afterwards. They sounded beautiful live. The concert was in a Chapel in London. I'll never forget it. I would deffinatly see them again 💜. In The Blood is another personal favourite of mine but there are so many it's hard to choose. When singing Mayday Tim sings really high which is just as amazing as his low notes. New sub here. Thank you for your comments. Interesting and informative review.

You should check out the bass, Tim Foust's vocal range video. His voice spans more than 5 octaves, the lowest I've seen him do is a G0, but most videos put it as an A0. His range is from either a G0 or an A0, all the way up to an A5. You should also react to their cover of Mayday, by Cam. In the beginning of that song he sings in the tenor range effortlessly.

Hello Mrs Simon first i want to personally thank you for reading and commenting back. I know uou are a very busy professional so it means a lot. Secondly thanks so much for reacting to this one. I really enjoyed you comments on the performance as a whole,i found it very interesting. Here's a little background for Home free.We Home free fans call ourselves home fries. And believe me there's a lot of us. They won the Sing Off a year after Pentatonix. If you want to know more about them personally i recommend watching the sing off performances with intro and judges comments. They made a version of this with Avi Kaplan which was amazing. Tim the one who hit the low note at the end and Avi are good friends. Tim also help Avi sing lower because that's the kind of guy they all are.Avi also made an appearance on their original song champagne taste on a beer budget. They've made so much over the years covering differentstyles and genre's. Everything from happy and fun to deep and meaningful. Their beatboxer Adam Rupp who was on the end,has won awards and was named one of the best beatboxers in the country by his peers. Through out the years I've listened to Adam impersonate everything from drums to turntables,even a harmonica. Yes Mrs Simon i said a harmonica. They are also masterful story tellers. They're covers of my old man,mom and Thinking out loud/ lets get it on,i like the sound of that,and think a little less are excellent examples of what i mean. Tim Foust, the bass singer, has a 5 octave range of A0 to A5. To really see what he can do is to see Home Free in concert. He literally vibrates the room with his lower notes. It just shakes your whole body. The F#1 that he hits here at the end is just normal for him. There are at least a dozen songs out there like Seven Bridges Road, Hillbilly Bone, Man Of Constant Sorrow and also Elvira featuring the Oak Ridge Boys just to name a few. One of my favorite demonstrations of his range is "Lets Get it On", where he goes from and A4 down to a D2 in like 10 seconds. Other great songs with great low notes are "Hillbilly Bone", "Do You Hear What I Hear", "Honey I'm Good", "What Child is This" (On Chris Rupp's Channel) and "Your Man". Examples of his high range includes "Mayday" and "Greensleeves" (on Peter Hollens' channel).

Saw Home Free twice in concert for different album releases, so different tours. They are absolutely amazing live! This performance was when they had Chris, and they were brand new as a group together. You should hear them now, with years of working together, and now that they have Adam Chance. The album version of "Honey I'm Good" Tim hits a low note (actually three low notes, but the last) that rivals the lowest synthesized bass. My Polk Sub absolutely shakes the house. I believe it's a C#1. He does go lower into the 0 Range in other songs, but the punch of that notes is unreal. If you have a GOOD headset or fantastic sub, you could try watching their youtube video to hear it. It's around 2/3 the way through the song.

Notice how close Tim is holding the mic to his mouth while the other guys have some distance? He is well aware of the bass proximity effect. This works with cardioid mics, with the Shure SM58 being something of a reference for how well it does this. The SM58 (and its variants) has a very linear roll-off of the low frequencies, especially below 150hz and you can boost this range by getting it closer. Speaking as a sound guy, I love the SM58 because it's rugged and reliable and doesn't make noise, even when singers are walking around with it. Tim knows his stuff and gets the most mileage out of his voice by using that proximity effect to rumble the judges right out of their seats.

I loved this video cause you’re so right about the low end of singing. When I was 15 I got pneumonia and completely lost my low end. So I started listening to a lot low register singers and practiced all the time. It was the only way I got my voice back and in turn it expanded my high range. Low end matters!

As someone who used to sing in a Sweet Adeline's Barbershop Harmony Competing Chorus, I LOVE harmony! I found Home Free about a week or two ago and fell in love! I've always been partial to Basses. I sing Lead but a good Bass is Heavenly!And as much as I liked Sweet Adelines, our male counterparts, in the male Barbershop Harmony Choruses are the BOMB! I will say that I learned a LOT about singing and performing in Sweet Adeline's. And tho most people think they only sing old fashioned songs, they don't. They also sing popular music. Its all just arranged in the Barbershop style, by that I mean the chord structure. Anyway, Barbershop Choruses teach vocal production, choreography, script writing, song arranging, costuming, stage make up, and pretty much everything having to do with producing a show. Every other year they put on a musical show to raise money to travel for competition the following year. They also do sing outs which are when the chorus gets paid to do a little show at a mall or Church etc. All money is then split among the members to help pay for travel expenses. They do charge monthly dues as well to help pay for things like renting space to rehearse and other Chorus expenses. AND most Sweet Adeline's have male family members who are in a male Barbershop Chorus or Quartet and they attend all the Sweet Adeline's competitions and shows and the Sweet Adeline's attend all the male competition and shows. Its a total riot! They take over entire hotels and all you hear is singing on every floor and in the elevators. And if you go to an International Competition, you'll meet Barbershoppers and Sweet Adelines from around the world! Barbershop is a uniquely American Folkart but its popularity has spread to the four corners of the world! Oh, and in case you haven't figured it out yet, it's not a bunch of old people. So that's my experience with Barbershop and its a why I Love Harmony!
