The R in "Lover" is called a *rothic* "R" and is quite specific to the southern accent - and that's probably why it is present there. (it's not lovah.. is lov'r) This is typical of Virginia Piedmont southern accent. You will not get this in Florida, but is widely present in southern Viriginia, the Carolinas, portions of Georgia, Alabama. and Kentucky.

The art as a singer is about technique. The art as a performer is to become the song. When you have both, you move people. As for country music, once infected with it, there's no effective inoculation to cure that infection. I will leave it up to the reader to decide if that is a good or bad thing, but once you feel it, It's kinda like the blues. And once you feel the blues, then there's no going back. It is a musical form of freedom that has no equal and it is so liberating. Music for the musician as opposed to the music lover is not what we do, it's who we are. I was impressed at your analysis. You are quite perceptive and I enjoyed your commentary. You explained it quite well but most of all, you get it!

Tim starts to sing bass at 5:06 *Tara loves him* 5:33 *Proceeds to go a whole octave lower
@arcticzzshadow84214 жыл бұрын
Denil Joseph actually the high reverb growl at 5:33 was chance and not tim. Thats why the video focuses on chance at that part. Chance can hit almost the same low ranges as tim at a much higher reverberated sound so they tend to use his voice to accent tim’s and its prevalent here.
@deniljoseph55343 жыл бұрын
@@arcticzzshadow8421 Oh, well thank you kind sir for explaining that to me. Both Tim and Chance are great singers tho
@themajor7433 жыл бұрын
@@arcticzzshadow8421 Indeed - Since Chance joined the group they've had a much smoother bass/baritone sound field as they can either do as you've just mentioned or Chance can ease into supporting the underlying base tone while Tim rises to sing in whatever register is called for (pretty much means anything when you've got a five Octave range like he does). And of course the two can trade back and forth if the piece requires it. They do it so smoothly that few people even notice it happening which is really impressive.

You hit the nail on the head when you said "country digs its heels into what it is unapologetically". I think that's what makes it so great. I love country, country rock, rockabilly, southern rock, early Rock & Roll, blues,old school R&B and soul (ike 40s to 70s). Those genres (maybe not R&B anymore) tend to be very loyal to their roots. Popular music these days seems very artificial, processed and machine made. That's why I like the older stuff.

I love their version of this song, and I love your review of the performance. You take the song for what it is without criticizing the genre, while explaining how and why they sing it the way they do. That's the mark of a great coach and critic.

I've seen them live twice, and they are absolutely unbelievable. Yes, all of the song is A Capella. Their beat boxer is unreal, and every live show he does a solo section while the rest of them take a break. After Tim's solo (the bass) in this song, he drops an octave lower. He is unbelievable with his technique.

I really want to see you react to auld lang syne by home free. You seem to really like Tim's voice and this song has him as the main vocalist. I would pay to see you watch this. I was looking to see if you had a Patreon I couldn't find one. I hope i didn't miss it.

Hi Tara I love your reactions as someone who also love good acapella music, when I was in school I was in choir and did some acapella as well and Home Free is the very best I have heard in a long time. Yes I am a music lover and have dedicated my life to music. Love your input

I'm so happy that you reacted to more Home Free, and I loved your analysis, but I'm also a little sad because I know you prefer reacting to live performances, and there actually are very good recordings of Home Free performing this song live. (Let alone that imo, the live version is even better than the studio recording.)

I also prefer the live version of this song, mostly because of the dual harmonicas that Austin and Adam do!

I like live performances too, but the guys (Greenshoe)that produce HF videos do such a great job. And the biggest problem with recording a live performance is the sound. The subtleties of a Cappella demand great sound or you lose out.

You accurately captured what makes country music a distinct genre and given the a cappella nature of this performance, it's hard to hide behind a lot of instrumentation and electronic massaging. Loved your reaction to the bass! I'm a baritone who also sings bass II (in High School is was a basso profondo) and to have that rich of a tone on those low notes is all structural. You either have it or don't have it. Helps that I have a 3 octave range. I'm not a super fan of modern country music. I tend to enjoy old school country and Home Free really captured the spirit of Union Station's version that was featured in Man of Constant Sorrow, with George Clooney. The song itself is probably an old American folk song with some attribution to Dick Burnett in 1913 but Mr. Burnett thinks perhaps he learned it from someone else! Thanks for the review Tara!
