This short montage shows another change that he made throughout his career. He started out singing the kind of standard love songs that everybody expects. But as he grew older, the songs he wrote got more and more personal, voicing his own opinion, and really trying to get a message across instead of just entertaining. Songs like Man in the Mirror, Black or White, They Don't Really Care About Us, Earth Song, they all fit in to the general "We Are the World"-theme that started in 1984. I don't think he had any community-engaging hits before that time.
