Metal musician of 20 years here, and everything you said about the necessity of dynamics and playing as a tight unit when writing/playing music this heavy and this busy is dead on. Also, as a drummer I really appreciate a vocalist (I know you probably play some instruments as well) who has an ear for rhythmic ideas as you do. Love the channel!

One thing about the way that she switches between her cleans vs growl. It is quite impressive indeed, but how is it any different than flawlessly switching between registers? The way i see it is its pretty much the same. As simple as using two different techniques. (By no means am i diminishing Tatianna btw, i'm in awe everytime i hear her!) It's just that im surprised to hear people saying they've never heard such amazing transitions before.

I love seeing how you react to groups and tracks I like. Tatiana Shmailyuk is, in my opinion the best female growler and able to switch effortlessly to a rock singer style. Having said that I am also a fan of the Swedish band Arch Enemy with both Angela Gossow and since around 2014 with the Canadian vocalist Alissa White-Gluz. I also like to listen a lot to Masha Scream of the Russian group Arkona...for me language is not a barrier to good music and vocalists.

You need to understand how editing works. Atleast 3 gigs recorded, then they edit the video footage from those to fit the studio recorded audio, exellent usage of slow motion in video to match the timings with the audio, since the artists might switch timings on stuff on stage. And then they post it as the "official video".

Yeah, this is studio audio and any Metal recording engineer worth their salt will record the vocal track many multiple times, possibly with different mics or in different spaces or with different EQ curves, and then layer them to create the sound they are looking for. It's a technique that is prevalent throughout metal recordings.

It's definitely a montage. Either that, or Tati is an absolute quickchange genius! In terms of genre, I can hear influences from melodic metal, gothic metal, industrial, death metal and perhaps a couple of other areas, too. So, the only genre they seem to fit, IMO, is Jinjer. They have created their own genre.

I dunno... I keep on thinking we cannot talk about growls when it comes to Tatiana's voice.... I believe we are talking about still her voice moving into a male deeper voice and that's what's really amazing. We know now how much human beings have a female and male side within, voice cannot be considered differently. I believe that's exactly what makes Tatiana and Jinjer that special. I really hope you give me your opinion on my theory, Elvann.
@aamiw99
@aamiw99 4 жыл бұрын
The song isn't live as some have already said, and even live she sings the entire thing! She doesn't skip notes to take a breath or something. About the metal thing, I've realized there's a number of Jinjer fans that aren't even metalheads. I think it's for the same reasons you outlined, and also cause people are just in awe of what Tatiana can do with her vocals. I'm a metalhead and even though I completely disagree with you, I understand where you're coming from. The heaviness you're referring to is actually very diverse in itself. There's a reason why there's so many sub-genres within metal, most of which have a lot of screaming. The vocals don't play as big a role like in other genres like pop, hip-hop, etc. The differences are mostly instrumental. Jinjer, for the most part, fall in the progressive and groove metal sub-genres, and also metalcore if you consider their earlier stuff. As for your reaction, it's quite good overall but with a lot of pausing in between you really lose the gist of the song. I'd suggest maybe 2-4 pauses for some words then analysis at the end. You'll get to enjoy the song more and people won't be pissed about it lol. It's a win-win! Like many others, I'll recommend an actual live performance: Perennial Live at Wacken 2019. If you want another band from the metal genre to check out I'll recommend Motionless In White - Another Life. It's much calmer than this but a very emotional song. Hope you have a great day!

The vocal doubling and vocal harmonies you hear on Jinjer's songs are not created artificially with digital effects, they're all recorded by Tatiana and then mixed together. ; ) No, it's not just you who likes songs with dynamic variations. Everytime I hear a new Metal band and it sounds the same as the last 100 new Metal bands I've heard, with the same guitar sounds, the same drum samples and the same singing style, I completely lose interest. That was what pushed me away from the Metal scene in the last 15 years. Until I discovered Gojira in 2013 and Jinjer in 2016. It's like you said, they're in the new Metal "scene" but they're completely different and unique, in the way that they use the same or similar elements used by other bands of the genre but they make them work without being repetitive or saturating the listener.

Too much pausing and interrupting the flow of the music in this one, sorry :( If you're not as much of a fan of the harder stuff, maybe try "Perennial" by them. Most people will recommend the live version from the Wacken film festival, but the album version sounds better. It still has its growling/fry scream parts, but there are some really smooth soft parts too (more so than any other song by them that I've heard anyway, though I think there's at least one where there are supposedly no growls at all).
