We belong together made Mariah a bigger legend that she already was. Her career was in the toilet basically thanks to JLo and Mottola, but she started working on The Emancipation of Mimi and We belong together is the 2nd single of the album, stayed atop the Billbord Hot 100 for 14 unconsecutive weeks, the song revived her career in unimaginable ways, it also broke the record for the song with most airplay in history at that point. The success of this song is so big that Billboard named it the biggest comeback in music history, it blocked her 3rd single Shake it off from the #1 spot, she is the first artist in music history to simultaneously hold the top 2 positions and this was before Billboard's rules changed, this is when only sales and radio airplay counted toward the chart, it had to be a wide release etc. In 2009 Billboard and Nielsen Soundscan honored this song song as song of the decade for the 2000s and Mariah is the only artist in history to have 2 songs of the decade, that made her the most enduring female artist of all time where her presence was strong in 20 years of career, the industry started to respect her again for the professional artist she is, the public couldn't get enough of her voice and at The Grammys of course she was snubbed as always but the fact that the song deserved the Grammy for Record of the year was so evident that the sound engineer from this night when U2 was announced as the winner they started to play We belong together instead of U2s song and Bono stood on stage and said "Mariah, you are amazing, you sing like and angel and really you are something else" The Emancipation of Mimi sold over 10 million copies and was the biggest selling album of the year in the US and the second worldwide.

My Auntie was tired 😭 Her voice is very delicate and gets tired very fast. That's why when she does tours, there're very few performances and spaced far apart - compared to other artists. She has to take longer rest periods and tries not to talk 24 hours before a performance. Since this was her 'comeback' album, she did a lot of heavy promoting, starting in the UK and finishing in the US. Interviews, events, performances, parties, and creating the music videos. At night, she was still writing and recording new music. Then re-released the album, 7 months later, as a deluxe edition which included 4 new songs and the music videos. Which sparked another promotional tour for the re-released album and a future headlining tour. The woman was all over the world promoting, which paid off, making it her biggest selling album. This performance was at the end of her 1 year campaigning. She still sounds great, but you can tell her voice needed a break. Even at the beginning, after a few weeks of promoting, her doctor said she needed to cut back and rest because it was straining her voice and they were beginning to swell. She has worked like that from the beginning of her career. In some very early interviews, she was barely auditable due to her pushing herself to hard. However, that's how she became the best selling artist in the 90s, winning artist of the decade, song of the decade, and female artist of the millennium.

Love your comment about people and comments. It’s okay to have an opinion and critique but to tear people down when they make mistakes and then when they recover (like singers do in a performance) they accuse them of lip singing. It’s like they can’t acknowledge the voice can be tricky but still love the athleticism of a comeback within the same song. Thanks to you for knowing this was a completely live performance.

The second “carry me home” and the rest of the climax is lipped after that, then she comes back in at “Carry me higher lord.” Its quite literally the studio version pitched down a key, just for those 10-12 seconds. I don’t expect her to sing that insane climax live btw, she did everything else live, including the Wbt climax and proved herself plenty. If people wanna be mad about her lip syncing a mix-chest G#5 belt, that shows their lack of reasoning and knowledge.
