Thank you, Elizabeth - this was an excellent analysis that I will be watching multiple times. We had another professional opera singer who has reacted to Dimash, but when she did her reaction/analysis to this performance she didn't make it all the way through the song. She was going along, confidently explaining Dimash's amazing technique. Then when he started that section that you're calling reinforced falsetto (about 11:13 in your video), we lost her. She said something about him breaking all the rules, what he was doing was impossible, that she didn't understand it, and she had nothing more to say about it. She ended the video there. There's been a lot of controversy among professional voice teachers about that particular register of Dimash's; some insist it's not falsetto, some call it "super head voice", some call it pure "soprano", some call it reinforced falsetto, as you do. Me? I just call it phenomenal and that's enough. Dimash himself says he's an "ordinary tenor". One of his several mentors from his earlier years says he's a countertenor. I tend to believe Dimash, though, because who would know better than he? 🤣 Eagerly awaiting your next Dimash analysis. Subscribed today.
@TheCharismaticVoice4 жыл бұрын
Hi Snarky Tart! Thanks for this comment. I've been genuinely surprised by the number of people saying that Dimash was a soprano, and this explains the origins of some of those thoughts. Cool side note: a lot of times countertenors start as baritones, or vice versa. My friend and grammy-winning opera singer, John Brancy, recently gave an insane performance at Walt Disney Hall that went through both baritone and countertenor ranges. It's was a delight to see live.

Yes that inward breath as he raised his arms on cue from opening bars of the music. He steps onto a stage, and becomes a god. His technical proficiency would be astonishing on its own, but somehow he manages to transcend it with the power of his artistry. The humility and reserve of his off-stage persona falls away when he sets foot on a stage and takes that breath. He cannot do what he does without understanding his own power, but this not arrogance. He knew from childhood, in some remote corner of central Asia, that he had been blessed with a gift, and he has devoted himself completely to honouring it. He is his own creation, the embodiment of some mythic legend, and the apprentice to his own sorcerer. It's remarkable. Calling him an angel or an alien obscures the scale of what he has achieved by the power of his will; he remind of the best of what humanity can be, by his own example. He is amazing, but we shouldn't deify him. He is human, and fallible and flawed, as we all are, and we must give him the space to be himself.

Dimash defies all efforts at classification of voice types. He is redefining what is possible with the human voice. I don’t think he has yet shown us everything he can do. As you say, an E6 head voice/falsetto is easy for him...he can definitely go much, much higher. Similarly, with his lower register. He is going be a case study for years to come. Meanwhile, we should just sit back and enjoy his incredible talent, technique and artistry. We are blessed to be living in this age and to see this phenomenon. 😍😍😍

I'm convinced Dimash will do for vocalists what Paganini did for violin playing 200 years ago. Paganini completely blew the hinges off the doors of violin technique, defying and redefining all that was once thought possible, normal, or even acceptable/tasteful. The violinists of today arguably would not have the technical prowess they have today without Paganini's foundation. There were others, of course, but Paganini was a real standout.

Day, Give me love, My Swan, My Homeland, War and Peace.

I find SOS at Singer and Sinful Passion at Sochi as mind-blowing as this song. Though all performances at VTB Arena are a must listen to. Thank you so much Eli!

It is so wonderful to see an opera singer reacting to this performance. Your facial expression (and eyes) say it all. ^_^ Only opera singers can truly know the difficulty level and the insane awesomeness vocal quality of Dimash, and then express & explain to us normal people how amazing he is. haha.

I am not by any means a person who understands anything about music techniques or tonal quality but I really love to listen to Dimash. I am also fascinated 1. by your explanations of Dimash's voice style, range and techniques. 2. I love to watch the facial expressions of the person reacting. I think I could tell if a singer was excellent, good or average by watching your your expressions. Awesome CTV !!! My song request would be for "Autumn Strong or Love is like a Dream.".

A fantastic reaction by you, very deeply professional. Truth is that every performance of Ogni Pietra by Dimash is authentic and unique and well done performed with just a bit of difference but over all they are amazing and unique in any form. Thnx if you can react for next time to "Passione".."Olimpico" its his opera genre they're more masterpiece by him.

Thanks so much for the dual video... Like yourself, I love to watch his facial expressions and his movements as he sings, but I didn't care for the sound quality on that fancam video. You provided Us with the perfect solution .... And it's made all the better because of your reactions . You have a quirky infectious grin that is reflected in your flashing eyes. My own eyes had nearly as much fun as did my ears.

I'm 1:45 into this video and your face, Elizabeth, says it all. That expression of awe and "Am I looking at GOD here?!" is what we all went through when we first heard Dimash sing.

What i enjoy seeing from Igor's influence (assumed it is) is how Dimash is exploring his lower registers a LOT more. He always did lower registers, but often the lure was his high end notes; now, I see him as someone that could be a wonderful opera tenor, that just has that unbelievable ability to go soprano as well heheheh.
