That last note is an E1 (40 Hz), but he can go lower. There's plenty of material out there by Voiceplay as a whole group. Enjoy. But (partly due to the pandemic) Geoff has also been releasing some solo material where he multitracks himself into 4 or 5 part harmony. He put up Bare Necessities (from Jungle Book) a month or two ago, and just released Blackbird (Paul McCartney) this past week. His final low note on Blackbird is so low that I can't even identify it properly (partly because my hearing cuts out at a little below 40 Hz). And Geoff has released readings of Edgar Allan Poe. The Telltale Heart. The Raven. If you're also a public speaking teacher/coach, that could be interesting.
@peterk74284 жыл бұрын
I don't think I've ever heard him go lower than an E1 with that much raw POWER, though. Whenever he goes low its usually not that strong.

Geoff is literally a god of subharmonics, he mastered that technique and with it has basically a 5 octave range, which is insane. This was so great and informative. Would absolutely love to see more reactions and professional decoding of VoicePlays songs and medleys! All of them have so much talent and creativity to offer. Their "Queen/Boy Bands in 5 minutes" medleys are insanely good!! They've also covered "What's This?" and "This is Helloween" from Nightmare Before Christmas.
@johndeeregreen45923 жыл бұрын
A 5 octave range isn't horribly unusual for a bass or low baritone singer. The reason being, you can learn and practice to go higher -- to a point. However, in chest voice, you can only go so low before your vocal cords aren't long enough and your larynx isn't big enough. Bass singers are at a major advantage to sing over a larger than average range. I am a bass with a 4 octave range, while I am not highly trained, either -- I do have some training, though.

You said it best: Geoff is a world class vocalist. I don’t know if you noticed, but his last sustained note on the word “man”, singing in harmony with the other group members, is one of the lowest notes ever heard sung by a human being. Ha ha.

@@DennisKovacich Yup! They do! The first time I watched the video I laughed so hard at that! He also uses subharmonics to achieve the “subterranean” note, which makes it even better. 😂

Several reactors have said that last note is E1…That’s not even close to the lowest note a human has sung which is a G-7, which is 7 octaves below a piano and 8 octaves below the lowest G on a piano.

Oh awesome! A new reaction on one of my favorite videos! You really cannot go wrong with Voiceplay. They have two other “Nightmare Before Christmas” songs, “This Is Halloween” and “What’s This?” They have more simple songs, like “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” and jaw dropping videos like “Warriors” (Imagine Dragons cover) and “Just Sing!” (watch with subtitles on!) Sadly, Earl has left the group recently (the one with the bushy beard), but they’ve done a couple great songs since he left like “The Heart of Life” and “Bones.” Also Geoff has his own channel. His version of “Blackbird” is breathtaking!

This is definitely one of my favorites by VP! You’re spot on about them not being just vocalists, but voice actors, as well! They do a good bit of their videos this way. They also put out serious and dramatic videos. I look forward to more by the aforementioned groups!

It’s because the way your voice comes out of your mouth to be recorded sounds different than how you hear it in your head when you talk. It’s much the same as many people not liking pictures of themselves because they’re used to seeing themselves reversed in a mirror, but pictures show the way other people see you. That’s why, when you use the front facing camera on your phone, it reverses the image to look like your reflection.

Thank you so much for listing to the feedback! So happy to watch this reaction. My love for acapaella music started as a kid when I would watch Rockapella sing the theme song to “where in the world is Carmen San Diego”. I absolutely love Pentatonix and HomeFree, but I feel that VoicePlay has become my new favorite. It’s so sad that they just lost their counter tenor. In the Holloween spirit, this song, in combination with “this is Halloween” and “Grim Grinning Ghosts” is a lot of fun. Just more suggestions for future reactions.

Voiceplay actually competed against Home Free in season 4 of The Sing-Off. Home Free won that season, and Voiceplay was eliminated I believe after three rounds. However, I'm not sure the current singers in Voiceplay are the same ones that competed in The Sing-Off, since their cast has changed several times since then. Great reaction; you are now deep into the world of acapella. Enjoy!

VoicePlay really is phenomenal all around. They do great characters, and I would even class them as some of my favorite "villain" singers. Not that they just do villain stuff, but when they do, boy do they do it justice. But if you want another fantastic villain, there's an artist named Jonathan Young on KZbin that you really need to look into. His cover of Hellfire from The Hunchback of Notre Dame is chilling.

Great reaction & I agree that Geoff is a world class vocalist. I love him & Voiceplay. I would suggest The Mermaid Medley & Geoff's solo version of Blackbird. You can't go wrong with anything from VP though although you will see some different people over the course of the years. The tall gentleman with the beard in Oogie Boogie, Earl, just left the group a couple of months ago. Another interesting piece of trivia is that the man playing "Santa" is Geoff's brother-in-law (his wife's brother).

I would really love to see your reaction to a Russian oktavist. These are a special class of low, low bass in Russian choral music. because the Orthodox church forbids musical instruments in sacred music they had to train people to sing contra octave notes that would ordinarily be produced by large pipe organs. Vladimir Pasjukov was among the best. His version of "The Twelve Robbers" , "Do Not Reject Me in My Old Age" or "We Praise Thee" with the St. Petersburg Chamber Choir are all spectacular. Most of his performances include notes between B1-G1 with enough volume to stand out over the entire choir while standing 5-20 feet from the microphone.

First, thanks for your work. I enjoy reaction videos as much as or more than the performance. Moving on, the bass also sings subtly in the background via an extra track of recording. You're going to find these groups amazing outside of their performances. I once read a comment that compared Home Free with the other a capella groups including this one. The focus on visuals and acting is different compared with the music. These groups also support each other. A member of VoicePlay arranged "Elvira" for the collaboration between the Oak Ridge Boys and Home Free. These are respectful artists and professionals.
