Yes. It is a VERY good idea to focus on this 2wks-1month, before moving on to the next vid. Of course, everyone is different. But many people encounter problems simply because they move ahead before their bodies are truly ready. Remember: If any particular element feels difficult to u now (ex: expanding the back), that doesn't mean to get frustrated and quit. It just means that your body needs more time. Patience is critical for success with this. So I thank u for posing that question.

It's simply a matter of practice. You're asking your body to engage muscles that you haven't made full use of since you were a baby. It takes time to redevelop them. Be patient, and remain consistent with your practice.

I am a classical singer, lyric coloratura soprano and these are some of the best instructional videos I have seen on breathing. I am glad I found them. Also your vocal warm-ups for opening up the voice are great for both beginners and seasoned singers alike. They are good for any singing style to release tension in the neck and upper body and to learn to sing in a full unforced and focused way. Thank you! I am going to refer to these often.
@darksidessj253 жыл бұрын
Hey man, It's been a year since I started singing and I found out I was a counter tenor! Correct breath support along with an open throat really works. It just takes time for you to develop that coordination. For new singers do not give up. This is half the battle. Once you figure out this then you need to do lip trills constantly. You can't get mixed tell you get a connected voice which takes a lot of effort. It's not going to happen over night. You also got to learn how to control your pharynx as you go up in pitch which is actually going down. That's a big secret but you didn't here that from me. Never reach for any note! Not even the low notes. If you do this is your neck muscles engaging which isn't your real voice. Your real voice is in the center behind all your fake voices. A weird concept to grasp but once you find it you might cry like me lol.

I have searched throughout youtube for instructional videos that is easy to understand how to breathe properly from the diaphragm and most were just saying that your stomach has to expand and your back muscle but that's it. They didn't go more in depth about it which is why I find this video very helpful because it's easy to understand even if you're an amateur. I will definitely use this to help me. Thank you for this awesome video.

Eric, I’m not sure if you’ll see this, but I wanted to thank you. I’ve been singing for years (no formal training, just a love for singing and songwriting) but never shared publicly until a couple of years ago. And while I enjoy writing and singing music for people to enjoy, it’s been so hard because I’ve always lacked confidence and have struggled greatly to have the strength to sing for longer periods of time. This has held me back from opportunities I’d love to take. After watching this video, something clicked for me. My breathing has improved drastically and I find myself significantly less strained than before. Your teaching has been a game changer and I am SO grateful! I wish I would’ve seen this 7 years ago when you posted it, haha!

This young man has delivered one of the best and most honest explanations of healthy breathing that I have seen on the internet. I was particularly impressed that he stressed the fact that the lungs are actually quite high but with the correct breathing it feels "AS IF" the air goes low. It's astonishing how many supposed vocal gurus miss that simple fact, so well done for your integrity. One important fact is missing though and it is VERY IMPORTANT. Men breathe IN differently from women. They truly do. Both sexes breathe out in exactly the same way. When you demonstrated how to breathe you have a perfect demonstration of a healthy male taking the correct breath for good voice production; so all you male singer's out there COPY HIM and do the exercises. Now FEMALES pay attention! As a man breathes in the wall of the abdomen protrudes THEN the ribs expand precisely as described and demonstrated. When a woman breathes in the diaphragm descends (causing the abdomen to protrude slightly) and AT THE EXACT SAME MOMENT the ribs expand sideways. So, in a man it's a double action, 1: diaphragm down THEN 2: ribs expand BUT for the female it's a single action, the diaphragm descends AS the ribs expand. This is MOST IMPORTANT and should NOT BE OVERLOOKED. If a woman breathes exactly like a man after a number of years the tone becomes hollow (hooty) and will eventually wobble. So ladies, practise scrupulously 1 AND 2 as your breathing and leave the men to do 1 THEN 2. Apart from this, this is a truly great lecture of honesty and integrity free from loathsome cheap gimmicks. Well done.

Oh my god, i saw these videos series one day ago and I practiced, then woke up, practiced again and then I tried singing.... After some time, i felt as if my voice opened up, i never felt that sensation before, and i was able to belt high notes i always struggled with, and with no pressure on vocal cords that used to stop me from reaching them. I can't wait to see what would a month of practicing this make. Also I'll watch more of your videos after this for sure!!! Thank you so much, i watched breathing tips and videos before but i realized i was doing something wrong because they never worked. No video helped me like this one. @ElijahLynn5 жыл бұрын
The first 10 seconds is worth highlighting these points: 1) It shows Eric can actually sing, and I can trust his advice more than some other teachers that hardly every show themselves singing (e.g. Dr. Dan) 2) It shows him slouching shoulders forward, and NOT filling his belly up like a balloon, which is often exaggerated by singing lessons on diaphragms, including this lesson itself. However, he is singing AMAZING in this _non-ideal_ form. Which proves that you can sing great without standing or sitting up straight or sticking your belly out like a doof, and that those improvements are marginal at best. He is probably still using diaphragm heavy breathing, but you don't need to stick your belly out like a balloon to do that.
@Freya7783 жыл бұрын
I just realised this week that breathing through the belly is actually breathing through the belly AND back. I found this out by myself earlier this week and never knew it because nobody has ever mentioned it to me. People always say breathe through your belly. So when I did that I often did that literally and when you do that you can sort of make your back stiffen which means that it won't expand much and that will mean your langs can't expand as much and you won't be able to breathe as deeply. I have often felt like I was not doing it right since teachers (like yoga teachers and singing teachers) are usually talking about breathing deeply through the belly and I often felt like I wasn't able to breathe that deeply this way. Sometimes I was able to breathe deeply this way and I know now that at those times I had not stiffened my back in some way and was therefore allowing both my belly and back to be able to expand and breathe better. It is mind boggling to me how I never noticed it and nobody ever mentioned it. Btw, grear tutorial!!!

PS- 🤣 about using your right hand so much. I was thinking that in my head and as someone who has been trying to get hip with posting on social media more I was cracking up when you said “and by golly I’m using this hand a lot.” You’re great!! Seem down to earth. That’s awesome!!!

It's good to see someone talk about the back and sides also.so many instructors say create this big pot belly when you inhale.(ken tamplin)but yet you never see good singers sticking their bellies out when they sing.so I say great job.good tutorial

how can I breath from back side and rip cage? they move just a little bit but I feel like I'm still breathing from my stomach. it is a little different from when I breath from my stomach but I don't know maybe I feel like this. but how can I understand I'm right or wrong?

I watched your video a couple of weeks ago (and subbed) but I couldn't find you and your videos and had to scan my full history again and found you! Of all the voice coaches on the internet your videos are the most helpful. Thanks for making them!
