The maturity of her artistry is off the charts, she’s come a long way from singing in her room, but those years of playing with everything is paying off, and you can hear the polishing that comes from Rob Christie at Republic Records, I expected a lot from Angelina, but even I didn’t expect what she is giving us now. I love Ella Fitzgerald, and Angelina took a master class in Ella’s artistry, and is taking it further, who knows where she will be in another decade.

Having never been a fan of this song, I have definitely become a huge fan of this version of this song. When Rusty uploaded it (and Boris did, too) I mainly just watched it, enjoying seeing Angelina going through the posing. But, the voice came through and grabbed me. No other singer has been able to do that. Now, when experiencing this performance, I almost don't even notice the visuals anymore as I'm caught up in the sound. I'm binging on this performance and it's been the main event of my day since it was posted in mid-Feb, 2022 (several times/day). I can't imagine Angelina being able to top this but, that is due to my failure of imagination. Not because Angelina can't do what she always does.

Thanks, Valerie! Although everything we see appears to be effortless, Angelina has put in a lot of work behind the scenes. When she begins to introduce us to more of her original work, incorporating jazz into whatever genre she wants to sing, is she , in fact, creating a whole new genre? All I know is when she is at the top and getting the worldwide recognition she deserves, how many young kids in the world will begin to emulate Angelina's style? Or, genre?

She has absorbed the best features of numerous jazz greats from her stat as a little girl and whenever she applies this natural style of her's I always hear bits of Billie Holiday's unique breathy releases, but then she brings in those inflections like 'slurring' certain words and changing 'key' in mid-sentence like Amy winehouse would do, which when added to her own personal delivery, simply mesmerizes the listener. She is the reigning Queen Of Jazz, having redefined the genre tastefully, whereas Amy did it radically. The end result is simply captivating.

There may have been or not one of the great jazz singers of the past that sang it equally well, but Angelina at 16 has established herself as one of the greatest jazz singers of all time. Just most of the world hasn't figured it out yet. I'm sure her future is singing mostly pop music but she can't help but let her jazzy foundation be present in everything she sings. This is right up her alley and she executes it amazingly adding a wonderful version in a long line of artists who performed this song. She skips, slides and glides over the tones using dynamics and uses her voice is many different ways. It is such a wonderful performance making me smile and feel warm. The point you make about listening first is very true. I happen to do it myself when I learn a new song. More by happenstance than by design. But now I’ll start doing it by design, thanks! I also think it is important for artists to explore many different venues where ever they want to go and their fancy takes them. The artists I enjoy most are artists who keep reinventing themselves and go off in different directions. At times it means that I may not enjoy everything, but it keeps them fresh, sparkling and shining. So though jazz is certainly her strong suit, I think it is great for her to try out all sorts of different styles :-)

Thanks Valerie for another great reaction/analysis of this latest masterpiece by Angelina. I have loved this song since way before Angelina was born & have heard many legends perform it. She did this at 9 at a concert in Norway & it was beautiful, but this difficult song was a bit too much for her at the time. A year later she sang it again & it was even better. She made me tear up & the cuteness factor was off the charts. Six years later she does this which makes me cry like a baby & it's the most beautiful version I've ever heard, EVER! Sophisticated jazz master at16 with her arsenal of vocal techniques which she never over uses. Unlike most young singers, she never shows you everything she's got, just what's needed to interpret a particular song. You hit the mail on the head Valerie. Angelina's embellishments are always so purposeful and congruent, and of course beautiful. Any legendary jazz singer would have been proud to have done them. There is a deeper principle of jazz improvisation that she understands and taps into just the right amount to "dress up" the song a little.
@geirstianaaslund71412 жыл бұрын
And the dressing up is never overdone and within her abilities in my opinion. Some didn't like the belting on this, but I think it adds a dramatic effect. She also tried to do it when she was 8, now she has the vocal skills to do it perfectly. And the final belting on Man's world was also not overdone, she balanced on a edge just before her voice would crack.
@michaelasher93952 жыл бұрын
@@geirstianaaslund7141 l get what you're saying, but as far as capability, she has grown greatly. You may have underestimated her chest voice. Vocally, she is a gentle giant. If she did " l Have Nothing ", today, l think we would see this.

@@geirstianaaslund7141 As others have commented before, all 4 versions of this Rodgers & Hart classic that Angelina recorded seem to be founded on the 1956/7 Ella Fitzgerald one, which includes the preamble and a softer crescendo. Finally, with this one, she's able to not only achieve the Ella-inspired perfection she was clearly aiming for at ages 8, 9 and 10 but surpass it,. adding her personal signature in the process. From my observations, it would be possible for Angelina to make a decent living from re-interpreting the Great American Songbook but the 'superstar' status she sought as a child lies in a different direction. IMHO she is capable of creating 'new' jazz classics in the future ... a Great American Songbook v.2 ... now that would be interesting! R (Australia)

Thank you Valerie for a very good reaction and educational analysis. You are able to explain in detail what we other unprofessional just can observe. Your explanations of that you also have to be a good listener to become a good Jazz singer explain it all. It is obvious that she is a extremely good singer, but I think probably she is one of the best musical listeners that exists. This is probably genetic from her grandmother and mother. (From some of her early videos her mother was active in discussion about arrangements, so this is probably in her DNA). The magic that Angelina has created since she was 8 is because of her understanding of music, especially jazz but also blues, rock and soul. She understands those small things that makes a song good, and with her fantastic and still developing voice extend those parts using world class techniques/voices. And as you said, the female voice is normally fully developed at 29. Wow, Imagine what her voice will be like in 13 years and all the beautiful music out there that she can recreate....

I have listened to this performance dozens of times already and it just keeps getting better. Valerie, many thanks for encouraging viewers to subscribe to Angelina's two KZbin channels. I also encourage watching all of her original videos, giving them a like and posting a comment. Many viewers don't know that doing all these things, and all are FREE, truly help Angelina. These things should be done for each aspiring artist that you enjoy. Much love.

I think this is the most animated I’ve ever seen you during a reaction! I think you were enjoying it! She apparently was using most of the contents in her Tool Box for this one. Loved it!

I can't honestly say I have ever heard this song performed better than this Angel just gave us from a Phone video, the girl is just the best ever :)

@Thomashin: The video is certainly from her phone (note the blue eyes, which is an effect produced by an app). The audio recording seems to have been done in a studio as synthetic strings and chorus have been added ... can't do that on a phone (yet!) ... R (Australia)

@@branscombeR Angelina wears coloured lenses. Mom and grandma also have them. She does, though, sometimes use other filter effects.

I agree that is is absolutely vital for an aspiring vocalist to listen to the past and current greats of the genre they choose to sing in. I will add that they must also have the all consuming love, passion and desire to want to achieve a high level of success. They must also be aware of the personal sacrifices and self discipline required to attain their ultimate goal.

Like you said this song was composed by rodgers what you didn’t say was it originally sung by a child prodigy who sang it at age 17 in Babes in Arms by a girl named Mitzi Green. Both girls have a lot in common Mitzi was doing Vaudeville at age 3 ,Angelina wanted to sing for Simon at age 3 Mitzi was doing movies by the age of 10 Angelina also was in a movie at around that age. Do yourself a favor listen to both versions the similarities are uncanny if ever they were to revive Babes in Arms Angelina Is the one to do it. Both these prodigies were born to sing.
