Just a small information about them.. they are siblings and sing together for like their whole life. Their korean family lived in mongolia and came to korea for their career and they where eventually casted at the survival show "Kpop Star". The brother composes and writes all the songs, but he is sadly in the millitary right now :(

For albums, YG is known to keep their artists in the 'dungeon', meaning they won't let an artist release something they don't approve, but I think they're less harsh on AKMU. YG (the CEO) himself admits that AKMU is an exception in the company since they don't usually do music like this, so he gives AKMU the freedom to produce everything.

You know what’s wild? So recently the male (they are brother and sister) who is their songwriter and producer went away for his mandatory military service but the sister talked about how she doesn’t think she would be as popular or successful without him. So she does tend to get more vocal lines in their songs because she is a stronger vocalist but he does everything and assigns her the parts in the song after writing them. Your comment made me think of that!

Finally AkMu found its way through your list! They're one of the most precious gems of Kpop.. So easy to listen to plus very original. Their skills are really high standards. On another note, I remembered checking your subscriber count yesterday as 56k now it's gone up to 61k! Oh my goodness getting 5k sub a day is amazing but then you are amazing teacher yourself so that explains. Been here since 26k sub if I remember it right, which actually took me a long time to hit play on one of the videos thats YT recommended to me, only because YT have way too many reaction channels that aren't my style (aka those with outrageous reactions with little to no substance at all) but it only took me a few seconds into that video and then i knew I'm in the right place. Thanks Sam for being so generous with your content. Her voice is soooo stunning - it's got this crystal clear quality that I absolutely adore. If you haven't seen her collab with Lee Hi, another idol, you should look into it! It's called "I'm different" - they have two different vocal styles but Suhuyn seems to take on a slightly kind of deeper, chest/throat-ier sound (more fry than she normally uses), inspired by Lee Hi's darker quality, which is fun. Her tone is still pretty crystal clear to my ears, though. I also love their song for the Korean alphabet holiday (listed on their page as "special video"), because there's this little part that she sings maybe twice that I couldn't get out of my head when I first heard it. She also did a cover of L-O-V-E which showcases her lovely tone She has the voice I wish I had - just effortless feeling clarity of tone. Ugh. This duo is *way too talented for their own good*. I think they are so talented. could you react to DBSK - Love in the Ice live? They where the best singers in the kpop industry. You will love it! LOVE IT A little bit of backstory: they were a five member group that debuted in early 2000's under the biggest kpop company in all asia. They became the KINGS of kpop, but they separeted in 2009, and 2 of em continued with the name TVXQ (same group) and is absolutely successful and the other 3 created JYJ, and were also absolutely successful as well, but took a diferent music style. The 5 of them together was FOR SURE the bests thing KPOP created. If you could, Love in the ice and Bolero will show you their skill. Much love from Brazil ✌

I am listening to the beginning up to around 2 minutes and I am wondering if the 'actions' you describe are 'active' ie measuring or manipulating muscles is conscious or intuitive. (my question may not even make sense to anyone but me) When you are practicing are you thinking about what you are doing with eyes toward 'measurement' or are you just feeling it?

I think when just learning some of the actions are active, with focus to just isolate one or two movements. After repetitions those actions switch over to intuitive. However some actions can only be achieved through asking for tone changes, and tapping into more of a psychological and primitive level of making sound. If you know that making a certain sound a certain way activates some muscle in a good way, that is useful. And if that helps you relax some other muscle that thought it was supposed to be involved, that would also be useful. Once you make the sound you can pay attention to what the whole production feels like, then press save. When you switch to other sounds hopefully that feeling of good production can be maintained. Ultimately it's best to practice technique just to know how to make a bunch of sounds well. Then when you're in performances you don't have to think about the technique, you just think about what sounds you want to make. If you had practiced making a bunch of different sounds you'd know how to make those sounds when you're performing. Then your focus is entirely on storytelling and musicianship.

Another youtube video you can watch for fun is AKMU Soohyun high notes - Try not to get goosebumps - features many good songs of theirs and covers of other songs too.
