There will simply never be another Prince. It will simply never happen. He was, is and always will be one of a kind. An actual, true musical prodigy and musical genius, he almost seemed supernatural in his abilities and range of gifts; a genius composer, songwriter, dancer, singer, musician and performer, he was ethereal, incredibly skilled and unbelievably gifted. By the time he was 19, he had mastered 27 instruments, wrote, composed and produced the entirety of his debut album singlehandedly, and was in complete command of a four 1/2 octave vocal range…yet never took an instrument lesson or vocal lesson in his life. Completely self taught. He was simply born with those abilities. A gift from the Gods to mankind. I still tear up a little every time I watch one of his performances. But it would hurt more to never see his performances again. When he died, I fell into a month long depression. He wasn’t supposed to go this soon, and in that way. Not him. And it just felt like the greatest of the greats, a musical god, a living icon, a true genius, that along with our youth (lived to much of his music), had left us for good. And far too soon. The greats, along with our youth and our era, were all gone. Michael, Whitney, Tom Petty, Chris Cornell, Scott Weiland, Amy Winehouse, and of course Prince. In less than one decade. Gone. All gone. But more than all the others, it hurt so much that Prince, a once in a trillinium kind of musical genius, was gone. It’s still heartbreaking to me that Prince went way to young and in such a needless, tragic way. No children. No partner. The greatest artist that may have ever lived, died alone in an elevator. Broke my heart. And it may always hurt a bit. Michael may be the King of pop. Aretha the Queen of soul. Rakim The Godfather of Hip Hop. Madonna the Queen of Pop. James Brown The Godfather of Soul. Ozzy The Godfather of Heavy Metal. Chuck the Father of Rock and Roll. Whitney the Queen of R&B. BB the King of The Blues. Miles the God of Jazz. But, simply put, Prince is the greatest artist and musician that ever lived. EVER. Even if we lived a thousand years, we’d not see his like again. It will probably always hurt a bit the way we lost him. But weren’t we the incredibly lucky ones to have been alive when he was alive? And how fortunate that we have these recordings etched in time, to watch whenever we want. Thankfully that includes this absolutely incredible, magical performance. All hail the mighty purple one, gone but never ever forgotten. Long may he reign in our hearts and in our souls, forever. 💜

I came across this video today and felt compelled to write after watching you. Like yourself I grew up in the 80s and Prince was always playing in my home, it still is and my children listen to his songs now. Watching you cry and seeing that emotion from you is exactly what all of us Prince fans feel. When I listen to him it brings me back and reminds me of home. Weren’t we so lucky to have had him in our lives 💜💜💜

You shouldn’t apologise for being emotional - that’s what great music should do for us and this is *such* a great performance. I was lucky enough to see Prince live many times and, unsurprisingly ‘Purple Rain’ was played at most of those shows. Other artists sometimes seem to tire of their biggest hits but Prince always played ‘Purple Rain’ with such emotion - it was clearly a very special song to him. I never got tired of hearing him playing that song - every time it still felt so special - and it’s the one I find hardest listening to since his passing. Thank you for celebrating the man, his music, his talent and this wonderful performance. 🎼💜🎶

I was a fan since he put out Soft and Wet ! People have no idea of how great he was. My son is a guitarist and he's always amazed at Prince's seamless segues, he believes it's difficult to do. I was so proud of Prince this night, I think he was proud of himself, too. I miss him !! 💔💜💜

Everything you said is spot-on. There hasn't been a talent like this since his passing. And I doubt there will be another as phenomenal in the near future.

I was able to see Prince perform this classic in 1985 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse New York!😭 I cried THE WHOLE concert! Just overwhelmed at the thought that I was in the same space in time with this MEGA-mortal! He was as GOOD as it gets! But I’m SO blessed to be able to say that I SAW HIM, Live!🙌🏾🖤🖤🖤 Thanks for this!
