She was in her early 60s when she sang this and her voice was absolutely beautiful still. This is such a wonderful performance from the late great Lena Horne, R.I.P to her and her daughter who recently passed.

As a lil girl from Georgia, Lena was like my 3rd grandma, even though I never personally got the chance to meet her. Her live versions of "If You Believe" are even better because she does this incredible old school head voice note in the climax. She was truly a jewel, and I'm so glad you covered her! She is forever missed💝🙏🏾

There was a lady that sang at my grandmother’s church that used to sound just like Lena Horne when she sang. So whenever I hear this song it reminds me of her too. Love this song and loved Mrs. Marjorie Jackson that used to have the church on their feet whenever she would lead a song! Thanks for posting this!

It's not only Lena's beautiful voice but it's the beautiful piano notes in the background for me. After she sings the line "Within your heart, You'll know." and those 🎵 DaDa Da da da 🎵 🎹 it's so good. Then at the end of the song when she sings "as I believaaa in youuuuu" the music goes up the scale 3 times. This is my 2nd favorite song from The Wiz, home is number 1. I love everything about this song, it brings me so much joy. Lena Horne is one the best. ❤❤❤

Lena Hone did an interview where she said that MGM didn't know what to do with her because her voice was so explosive and loud. They wanted her to sing pretty like the white girls did at MGM. if you watch any of the musicals that she was in, her singing was very calm and....pretty. BUT her albums and tv show appearances, LENA WAS LENA....EXPLOSIVE.

No one epitomized beauty, class, and elegance in the Black films from the Golden Age than Auntie Lena. She always seemed to rise above even the most contrived and stereotypical material and brought them up to her level. Just like she challenged segregation as one of the first Black women performing on the Vegas Strip who actually got to come in through the front door, instead of the service entrance and stayed in the same hotel, instead of being relegated to West Las Vegas, the "Black" area of town.
