Great warmup/workout for singers! Dive in and sing along - there's no talking to interrupt the routine. Follow the included text for deeper insight - or not! Either way, you'll be a better sing afterwards.

Mark, your videos helped me recover my singing voice after a massive heart attack and more than a week on a ventilator. I didn't sing for nearly a year and a half after my Jan 2021 heart attack and I lost much of my vocal range. Earlier this year I challenged myself by entering a local singing competition patterned after "The Voice" TV show. I used your videos to train for the competition and I made the finals! I've also regained my full range and my voice is better than before the heart attack. Just last month I did a six show run in a local production of "The Music Man." playing the role of Mayor Shinn. That didn't involve singing, but your vocal exercises were vital in helping me keep my voice through two months of rehearsals and six shows. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

@JimPenceArt Wonderful news regarding your health.👍🏾 Yes to your getting out there & I always felt better doing something and if I didn't get a callback or whatever, I at least knew that I followed through, which for me meant and means, I believe in myself enough to try. I hate the "what if"...Congrats!! ~ take care ~

this is one of my favourite exercises to do from Mark and today i was finally comfortable enough to do all the high notes! usually i have to go down an octave when it starts getting real high, but its like a switch turned on in my brain the last couple days and I finally internalised letting my high notes travel up to my head - and i could hit the notes right off the bat! im so proud of myself, and so happy i found this channel. i recommend it to all my singer friends.

Well, now you know to start with this one. But this would also be a good starter: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJCoiqyNmth2gbM. The other routines won't hurt if you simply back off your volume and allow your resonance to rise.

Hi Mark, I’ve really struggled this year with a couple of bouts of illness, both times affecting my voice. As a theatre performer singing big songs I was struggling, then I saw your videos. I’ve watched many singing videos but none compare to yours, I’ve actually stuck to your vids like glue! Over the past 2 months I’ve seen a huge improvement in getting back my power, range and control, but if anyone else is reading this, please persevere, none of these vids are a quick fix, and I’m still not where I want to be, but I will get there. If you want it bad enough you’ll do it and believe me, this is the place to come to. Much love from the UK x

If you are even thinking about lessons with Mark Baxter, do it! He has the patience of Job. He knows exactly what is going on with your voice the minute he hears you, and he knows what to do. Mark is a brilliant teacher. If you are terrified of singing, much less being taught by someone who worked with Steven Tyler, just get over it. It took me a year to get the courage to inquire about lessons. Don't be like me, jump in if you want to learn to sing.

I appreciate these videos so much. In the past, I have wanted to improve my voice and the advice I got from good singers was usually to sing louder, open the mouth wider, etc., and when I tried these things it would actually make me physically ill, to say nothing of the fact that my voice did not improve much. Eventually, I found out that I have a condition called Chiari malformation, which involves the area at the base of the skull, near the vocal chords. I found out that Cm flares can be triggered by coughing, yelling, and singing, among other things. When I found this out, I figured "there goes any hope of me learning to sing." Then I found this site. I almost cried when I heard you saying again and again to keep it quiet and relaxed. I will never be a professional singer, but just to know that I can work on my voice and continue to enjoy singing means so much to me. And it's working! I'm improving.
@voicelessondotcom
@voicelessondotcom 9 ай бұрын
It's not that the larynx is close to the bulge, CM is typically triggered by singing due to contracting neck muscles (trapezius and mastoids). Those large muscles are often engaged when belting and yelling so singing got thrown into the warning. But singing is an enormous spectrum of sounds - most of which can be produced without engaging those large neck muscles. So, obviously monitor your symptoms but you are certainly free to sing with all the sounds that don't make you ill.

Hi Mark I just want to take the time to thank you for the amazing videos that you create for free for all of us to use. I speak from experience when I say that it has truly revolutionized my singing! I do your 15 Minute Morning Vocal Warmup everyday and it has allowed me to unlock greater control and freedom in my voice which I never thought possible. It is insane because I literally teach myself how to sing and the progress I am making because of that one video is just mind blowing. I use to have many issue with my singing and could never sing consistently without my voice cracking or going into falsetto which in turn prevented me from singing seemlessly through my range and mixed voice. I spent literally 3 years trying to figure out the reason and this year on the 1st of January I had an epiphany and discovered that my biggest issue was a lack of diaphragmatic support! I then dived deep into training and strengthening my diaphragmatic engagement and after a few months all my problems disappeared and I can now sing with the ease, control and freedom I had always dreamed of. That video of yours in particular helps me blend my voice which allows me to sing in my upper registers and mixed voice with immense ease allowing me to genuinely sing with joy. The other day I hit a C6 with full head voice! Before this year I could always hit very high notes but I would always be in pain afterwards and my voice would basically give out but now I have no issues anymore which is incredibly exciting because I get to finally develop my range fully because I have such a wide vocal range. You have literally no idea how much this means to me because I have dedicated so many hours to get where I am today and you were a key part of that process even though you do not know me. May God bless you with great health and fulfillment for all the good you are doing! Thank you.

I just notices how much issues I have with letting my voice resonate in my head and not tense up. I was diagnosed with dysphonia and just recovered from a vocal injury. Its hard sometimes not to just give up on singing after trying for years. But I'm always happy to see you uploading!
@voicelessondotcom
@voicelessondotcom Жыл бұрын
The hardest thing is to allow your voice to sound bad (breaking, cracking) when you first explore letting the resonance rise. We're all so conditioned to never make a bad sound if we want to be considered a singer - so it really inhibits our growth. Imagine telling a beginner on any musical instrument that they shouldn't make any mistakes!

Well, I managed to deliver an assignment for my Māori language class yesterday where I had to sing a song, and it wasn't completely terrible, as I had feared. And that is thanks to your voice recovery lessons which I have been doing for the past few weeks. I went from almost zero - actually being banned by friends from singing for the last assignment hahaha It was truly that terrible! - to good enough for the purpose of this one, which is the best I could aim for in that time. So thank you so much! I will stick with your lessons and hopefully get back to a point where my voice does not constantly break up.

Most likely you're unconsciously avoiding the awkward areas by singing louder instead of letting the resonance rise up into your head spaces. It's very common!

It is strange! Ever since I started singing, I seem to be accompanied with a feeling of rejuvination; both physically and in mind.
@voicelessondotcom
@voicelessondotcom 5 ай бұрын
Not strange at all. In fact, what you feel is well documented by research! There are many health benefits to singing - the first being the stimulation of the vagus nerve. And you don't even have to sing well for the benefits to work!

Yes, I have tried many physical and mental exercises in life, but nothing has given me this kind of joy and satisfaction. When words are not enough to express thoughts and feelings, then the music steps in. I think it should be included in the work of psychology.

Another great one Mark, this might be one of my favs and my voice ALWAYS does sound better after. Could I ask you how much different you think a (my) voice could sound if one quits cigarettes? I wonder if its the only thing holding me back from sounding great. Thanks again ! Daniel

How much better would my eye feel if I stopped poking it with my finger? I can see out of it, but it's red and irritated. It feels dry and scratchy when I try and look up high. And if I look for a long time my eye will feel sore or tight. Plus, one day I know poking my eye will kill me. But I still wonder if I should stop poking my eye. That's how pernicious addiction is. It makes us justify what is unjustifiable. Yes you should quit. Your voice will sound much better.
@danieldavidson5220
@danieldavidson5220 Жыл бұрын
good points. It is an addiction, and even w the reason to have my voice better, it is very hard to stop. On another note, sometimes I put this one half speed and then at normal speed and it is great to balance the voice as going half speed really gives the voice time to open up. Thanks. @@voicelessondotcom

This video was great! I had a question because I’m a little concerned. I’ve been singing for a long time but recently when I sing I feel this dull slight pain in my throat after singing even if I felt good while singing and now I’m worried I damaged something. Do you have advice?
@voicelessondotcom
@voicelessondotcom Жыл бұрын
My advice is to start thinking of it as irritation instead of damage. Then observe whether that feeling ever occurs without singing or speaking. If not - there is most likely something about your vocal behavior that should be addressed. If it lasts longer then 2 weeks - first see a doctor to get a pair of eyes down there. Then I recommend working with someone to adjust your behavior.

👋🏾Hey ~ this is for all, though want Mark to know my fave lesson or pt for my vocals is the low hum with the clock - I'm not consistent with it because health issues (copod, Sps (stiff person syndrome messes with all the muscles) & emotional, anxiety blah blah
@voicelessondotcom
@voicelessondotcom Жыл бұрын
I found the question! Yes - as we hum higher we feel less vibration (buzzing) because high sound waves are smaller and faster. So the felt sensation gets smaller and changes location.

@@voicelessondotcom ty, oh sorry a question, when it gets to the vowels, my brain goes nuts, so I change the speed of the video to a slower, I mean slow, that might change the pitch but um, isn't it more the point to nail down the vowels, also it helps with the jaw because then I'm not tightening up. Oh, think I answered my own question, maybe? Sorry to be pestering though really ugh, in such a frustrating place. Sorry, I was singing over you, lol. OH and you get right back with all that your doing and I come 11 days later. smh

@@marysalvi242 Wait a minute! Do you speak slowly because there's a lot of vowels? It's no different when singing! It's better to keep it at speed and mess up then make yourself anxious about every little detail. You can do this!

I'm confused. Is it easier for men to sing high and softly like this because you have falsetto? As a female, I feel strain when I try to sing very softly in the very high range and find it's more comfortable when I open my mouth more and give it more air. An I doing something wrong?
@voicelessondotcom
@voicelessondotcom 4 ай бұрын
Don't be confused! It's not easier for men - it's easier for anyone who has muscle independence (either by training or luck). I wasn't lucky, so I had to train for that ability. You are tensing too many muscles when approaching a high note - so the extra pressure is necessary to make a sound. Learning to use less muscle will open up dynamic choices and extra range. Very worth the frustration at first.

@voicelessondotcom Thanks for the reply. I've been attempting to relax and use less muscle/force, but now high notes just cut out or don't sound at all. :(

@@jlamb2760 That's temporary - your brain is recalibrating. Swing your arms above your head when practicing those high notes. It will unlock many muscles that make you push.
