Layne did this one: the room used is his home recording studio, and he dressed the set with personal objects from each of the group, each of his 4 daughters, and his grandmother (who had a jewelry store- and is why the jewelry sign is there). VP's million-subscriber award is displayed on the side wall behind Layne. I love how personal he made it.

Shoutout to Cesar-I’m pretty sure most of the really high harmonies are him in this. And yeah, it’s been awhile since he really got to sing his heart out. I’m kind of missing that. Everybody in the group sometimes looks at the camera, but Deejay interacts with it-he’s downright flirting. I’ve noticed that in previous videos as well. Nobody breaks the 4th wall like Deejay! LOL. Loved watching you nerd out on this!!!

This has got to be one of your sweetest... I think you used the word 'love' more times in this video than any other (I stopped counting at 10 times 😉). It's funny because it drives home the point that this particular cover has done the same thing for most people; it's made us feel safe, and blanketed with happiness. And love. It shows in the way you almost hug yourself a few times too ;-). And as always it was so interesting to hear your professional and enlightening comments on the cover. Not sure why I didn't see your reaction before but I'm glad I found it after a day of reading through a particularly tough book (exam coming up). Lovely way to unwind. So thanks for that. In addition to their arrangements, their attention to the look of the video helps make them distinctive. This was filmed in Rayne’s Room Recording Studio. Owned by Layne, they have filmed many videos here including ACA Top 10s and Chandelier. When Layne dressed the set he included items for each VoicePlay member, Deejay, his daughters, his grandmother, and his wife’s family. Items he added for himself included his violin, his hoverboard and a book of his favorite Disney movie.

Wonderful analysis. Would be more than happy to see Deejay Young folded into Voice Play permanently although I adore the freedom they have as a group to take on guest vocalists to lend each song their particular strengths. Deejay Young's vocal dexterity never ceases to amaze me, those riffs are always spectacular! If you ever do another VP month or similar then I'd highly recommend their cover of Bang!, its great and Deejay really shines in it. Great video once again Jen!

Wonderful and difficult use of Negative Space in this. It is often overlooked as it isn't one of their "epic" darker covers, however if what is often overlooked is the difficulty of the timing where any note sung at the wrong time would ruin the entire piece....
@carinarodebak9419 Жыл бұрын
This was actually filmed at the same time as Chipmunks, ie before NEM and been waiting for release. Filmed at a room in Layne's house. Their take is that they all have a private room/studio at home, where they can retreate into for privately exploring music, ideas etc and be creative in. All objects in the room handpicked to connect to them and their family. VP plaquet on the wall, Layne's violin, notes of Hamilton on the piano etc. Layne even had to staple dark curtains over the windows on the outside, for best light effect! Layne walked us through all things in the BTS, explaining. The jewelry sign was a memory from his grandmother.

Getting meta here, I really like the effect the new camera setup is having. Having the keyboard in front of you instead of off to the side helps you to find the notes without getting completely derailed or distracted. Since the camera is more off to the side instead of straight on, whenever you drop a quick comment or observation, it's like a teacher turning halfway around from the blackboard and pointing out something particularly interesting to the class. And in general the openness of the space makes you see more engaged, expressive, and in a weird way, more confident? It's a good change.

NO one but you Jenn, no one but you...there is no other reactor, with or without analysis, that makes me laugh like you do. I totally and thoroughly enjoy the music, the analysis and the humor. This has always been my favorite Beach Boys song and I also love to hear it by Wilson Phillips which has two of Brian Wilson's daughters in the group (with the other young lady being the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of The Mamas and The Papas). Also, though I love VoicePlay, this would not be one of my favorite versions of this song, but I do love their vocal skills and appreciate their abilities. It's sort of like vocal gymnastics, but this is one of those songs where all I want to hear are those amazing harmonies and the simple lyrics...in other words, where the focus is on the song itself and not on the artist performing the song. But, that of course is just my humble opinion. Like I say, normally I love to hear the incredible talented voices of VoicePlay on pretty much everything else they do...just not on this song. Thanks Jenn.

Jennifer! Oh a Beach Boys song! In My Room! Welcome to my era! Well, 1964, I was 4 years old but technically my era. 😁 Hmm I think I kind of agree with one of the posters below that this cover ranges too far from the original Beach Boys sound. It's a nice cover but that Beach Boy sound is already so unique and my ears are just used to that. Hey you got some good low note practice in though! Spending time in the basement (though you live in a flat 🤔😅). Thing is, Geoff doesn't live in the basement, he runs up and down the basement stairs all the time! 😂 Love the Tigger sound of your laugh after that cool percussion element (that you nailed)! The Beach Boys developed their harmonies by copying those of the vocal group The Four Freshmen note for note. See the short video "The Four Freshmen on the BBC July 2012 - KZbin", where Brian Wilson talks about learning the harmonies from Freshmen records. At one point they segue between both groups singing "Surfer Girl".
