At 5:55 He didn´t spoke of a "specific financial crises in Germany" he spoke in general terms locally about the word financial crises of 2008 and its repercussions which of course also had an impact in Germany even years later as well as like as it had an impact for years world wide and in many countries even way worse than in Germany..but that would be now an other topic.

At 5:19 I'm not sure if the context is clear: 'Honecker' was the Head of former East Germany (GDR) and therefore carried big responsibility for the East German wall. Pipers' reference to the 'old riflemen' meant the guards of that east German wall. It's supposed to show the cynicism behind the immigration debate regarding Europe. The sense is that most people acknowledge the clear faulties of the east German wall, but the outrage when it's about shutting Europe down for immigrants is far smaller than about the East German wall, not only that, but you can actually find many proponents of anti immigration policies.

There's a mistranslation: At 1:27 he repeats the word "teilt" or "teilen" which in the subtitles is translated "divide". In this context however, the correct translation would be "share". It's about whether the rich in Germany share their wealth with the poor, whether the rich country Germany shares its wealth with the poorer states in Europe and whether the rich Europe shares its wealth with the poorer countries in the world.

One persons debts are another ones assets: that’s a core principle of capitalistic economy. It’s the first thing you learn in trade school (over here in Germany, but it’s the same principle around the world, that was developed in Italy at the end of the medieval period) Capital are debts. Always. Equity capital are debts of a company to the owners. Outside capital are debts to other people, companies and banks. Together they are the assets of a company. That’s called balance ( I shit you not)

I agree to the comments below which say the subtitles are really bad. Volkers speech is a really good one, but it is really messed up by the quality of the subtitles (speed as well). One small example: Volker is talking about hte africans (beginning of part2 or end of part 1). He said: The Africans will recognize that it is not worth to cross the ocean with a single small boat. They are going to come with a lot of boats (Subtitles say: Come with a lot of messangers). The translation issue is the following: The plural of boat in germans means "Boote". Unfortunately, "Boote" has the same pronunciation as "Bote", the german word for messanger. Anyway. I enjoy your reactions and your passion. Keep on going! Many thanks.

Was 20 years ago my hardest change of understanding the world: When you understand capitalism in the core you are becoming angry somehow. At some point you calm down...but the initial hit to your worldview. And I started to hate/pity my teachers who were to incompetent to answer the most basic question: (I remember asking: Why oh why do we need to earn 3% more each year? Basic understanding of math tells you: trhat can´t go well too long: Answer: too complicated. 10 years after scholl a 40 minutes video explained it to me) Praise KZbin. If any kids are reading: use youtube and all the knowledge to your best. We didn´t have this knowledge at our hand when we were young. But reserach the source. There are also too many lies out there.)

You're only scratching the underside of the iceberg. Imagine spending 1000$ on a PC each year. In a year you would be able to buy twice the amount of CPU power, harddisk space, memory and so on - meaning your money has doubled in it's worth. 10 years later, you would be able to buy 1.024.000$ worth of computing power by todays standards -> thats more than a million dollar worth of PC. Your money has drastically increased in value. Of course, such things are also considerated when calculating the official statistical inflation. Assuming you spend another 1000$ each year on bread, but the bread price doubles each year. Then after 10 years, you would not be able to buy 1$ worth of bread by todays stadards. You would starve, but your 2000$ you could spend on bread and PC today, would be worth 1.024.000$ + 1$ = 1.024.001 $ in 10 years, which equals a massive DEflation by the governments statistics. Great Brittain started the trend of falsifying the inflation with tricks like this a few decades ago, and most western nations have adopted that. In school, I often told my teachers what was wrong about their explanations and pointed out flaws and errors in their depictions of the economic system. I always got bad grades for that. Today, after having studied engineering, math and computer science, I know I was right, but they just did not anyone to 'disturb' them indoctrinating the other children.

11:10 Gold reserves, good one. The Gold standard of the USD hasn't been real since about the Korea war, at least. In 1971 Nixon officially abolished it, because every USD hat "can be exchanged at the federal reserve for its value in gold" written on it and he knew that the amount of gold needed to do that with all printed Dollars back then simply didn't exist. Today ALL currencies are book money, they are worth what the participants of the exchange are willing to give you for it.

@habi0187
@habi0187 2 жыл бұрын
You are true this is shocking but also shocking is the fact that a gold backed currency is as worthless as the book based currency since gold doesn't have a real value if you really think about it. It was used because people liked it and because it is rare that's all. This means a good backed currency is also based on the convention that gold is valuable exactly the same as there is a convention that printed paper is valuable. This is the problem of all currencies they are all just based on the convention that a certain object or nowadays bits in a computer system are representing a certain value as equivalent of working time.

6:10 In fact, the world had an economic crisis in 2008. In germany we had mostly troubles with VW (the car factory) and other industries and many workers had to work part time or even go home. All because to the bank crisis of 2008. and about 7:00 when Volker says that in germany once the money had lost it's value. Check out the Hyperinflation... in November 1922 one dollar was worth 3,4 trillion Reichsmark. one bread for 300 billion ...

In politics, the paradigms of business administration have supplanted the arguments of the national economy. The result is a policy of pro-capitalism. Nations are not enterprises. Citizens are not employees. Capitalism developed at the beginning of the colonial era, when voyages of exploration and conquest opened up and exploited new colonies. At that time, the interest that a rich European gave the ship's captain was still huge, because exploitation and robbery is "easy" if you have the far better weapons. From an economic point of view, a well-functioning capitalism is based on an infinite supply of resources that is easy to exploit. But since then the planet has "meanwhile" become finite.

The problem us way deeper..effin central bank. Just imagine that from top view: There is a bank that can print money at will..in other words, they print value and this money is lend to everyone..to every country..and you got to pay intresst for the money..how will you pay your debt to the institution that borrowed your the money in first place? Borrow more money...and now we are in an edless loop.

@muellerhans 2 жыл бұрын
Actually Pispers is a bit wrong: In reality the bank doesn't check how much of a reserve it has when it lends made up money. So there is no real 10 times rule. Maurice Höfgen explains that pretty well on his Geld für die Welt channel. If you are more interested in the history of things like capitalism then check out the Wohlstand für alle channel and for more analysis of political things the Politikanalyse series on the Jung & Naiv channel.

banks do have to have a certain amount of money "in the bank" though which was one of the actions done after the financial crisis to increase this amount. Unless I missunderstand you or him but then again a bank will also not lend continously more money to a random person. At some point they will just take from him what they can to salvage their losses. He used it as a metaphor for countries rather than actual people/normal people. A good example there would be the several debt cuts for Africa and other countries.

i think the parts where pispers starts talking about "that money can be generated from nothing" is a little dated, yes it's true, but it's not a problem. In fact this really is modern, since when people need money they just can get it, and ofc pay interests, that's the price of money. the most important insights for me is "the debt of someone is the wealth of some other", if you think about some neo liberal phrases, about goverment debt, you see that this debt is the wealth of the nation. So there's money there for investments, it can be created, the only real obstacle is - political will - the question for "how to finance it" is just a diversion, it's "what do we want". an other obstacle is the inflation, but as long the country has resources it can use (unemployed people, companies who still have capacities left), the inflation won't rise. if the goverment start competing about resources you have supply sided inflation.

Planting some veggies and fruits will help you from starvin (don't need any meat to survive, actually), and just imagine how it would be you start doing all that hand in hand with your neighbours again, instead of calling the police because they don't obey the corona-rules.... this alone would start giving the world a whole new look! No, a currency linked to real gold reserves is something from the past. Todays money gets its worth by the power of financial systems and states that guarantee its completely theoretical worth. The more money they print, the less its worth. Thats why inflation is robbing the relatively rich.

@dietdoubledew8986
@dietdoubledew8986 2 жыл бұрын
Actually, something similar. The blockchain could be seen as a country. The blockchain represents in the same way a continuity as the state does with its set of laws. At a certain time in the history of a country, a certain set of laws were applied. You had to abide this set, which limited your ability to contribute to the GDP by earning currency. This is like the "difficulty", which determines how many calculation are needed to mine one BTC. The GDP is the computing power of the whole network, which mines the BTCs. A state creates also a chain of events, which can be retraced like the blockchain, so everyone is able to retrace it and able to confirm, that a certian transaction was correct or in accordance with the law at a certain time. That's how you create trust in a currency. Because you can't violate the laws of the blockchain, unlike the laws of a state, there is no state apparatus with state authority needed.

We do not live in capitalism. We live in monetary socialism. Capitalism means property rights and freedom of contract. Neither exist for most people, in favor of those who can afford to lobby: Corporations, organizations, and other select individuals. At the expense of all others, including a large part of the companies. Including a large part of the workers and customers. If the state no longer existed, insurance companies would take over and do a better job. Because otherwise we can change the company or sue for breach of contract. If Olaf Scholz does not keep to agreements, nothing will happen to him. And neither will his buddies.
