As said in the video,they tried their best to minimize power losses from friction...more valves = more friction...this is not a performance engine..it's a combination of low emission and high economy engine,but with enough horsepower and torque to match a 1.6 or even a 1.8 engine...Imo that's the genius of all TSi engines.. !

Every single thing said in this video is 100% true.It's every bit as good as they claim. It's by far the best engine i've used in many years. Make yourself a favour and consider using this wonderfull engine with a 7spd DSG gearbox. It's amazing. Not for the fuel economy (It's the same as with a 6spd manual). But for the SOUND! I chose the 6spd manual because i love manual transmitions but a friend got the DSG,and i'm so jealous.With a sports exhaust sounds like a high end sportscar! Crazy!

Btw i 'd also like to point out that TSI stands for Twincharged Stratified Injection..That means both a turbocharged and a supercharger is used..While this applies to the 1.4litre (140-160ps) it doesnt apply to this 1.2l engine nor to the 1.8 20VT..That's all just marketing from VW,but it's hard times we live in,so i guess they used the "TSi" name for their own benefit...

Just got me Audi A1 with the same engine. So far an excellent little city car, with great fuel consumption. Mind you with chain driven engine the oil HAS TO BE CHANGED more frequently than what VW is suggesting with those "so called long life oil" It is a myth that the oil could last up to 15000 km. That is very bad for the chain. If you maintain more frequently on 7500 km that engine would last for a long mileage. The chain driven engine should make over 200000km before the chain is replaced. Never save your money on the oil.
@AfXv2377 жыл бұрын
I change my oil on my 320d e46 each 22000km and still runs strong at 260k kms without any engine problems. You are just eatting VW's crap. Those TSI are badly designed and the timing chain tends to break or to loosen and the piston would hit the valves.
@iamtheoneandonly93617 жыл бұрын
Mr Crossplane Why compare this engine to a BMW diesel engine? They are two different things entirely. This engine probably won't last for hundreds of thousands of miles but that's not what it's designed for.
@iamtheoneandonly93617 жыл бұрын
For Christ sake people this is a small turbo charged chain driven petrol engine, stop comparing it to the VW pd diesel engine and others. I have this engine in my Skoda Rapid and for what it does it's pretty good at it - the performance and fuel economy are pretty decent and after 29000 miles I've had no issues yet. As a small turbo charged engine it will need some maintenance but no more or less than any other engine needs. If you neglect any engine you will have problems with it - simple as that. There are some engines that have reliability issues from the factory but the majority have issues due to mechanical neglect/lack of servicing.
@thodkats15 жыл бұрын
Now that's a great engine...Too bad it's going to be launched in the start of 2010 in Greece..Anyhows,i noticed that it's an 8Valve engine,while i thought it was a 16-valve..I also noticed that the camshaft belt is a chain actually..Does that mean that it's gonna need less maintance ? What is the mileage in which the services must be done..It's already a very economical engine,but still i d like to know the service mileage,if you can tell me..Thanks a lot !

+StrahinjaSRB93 This video is about the TSI engines of the previous generation (EA111). The current one (EA211) doesn't have the troublesome timing chain anymore, as VW switched back to timing belts. Considering your Leon still has waranty, I guess it's a Leon III (5F) and therefore has a EA211 engine. You don't have to worry about timing chain problems then. Of course I cannot say whether or not something else might break. So far EA211 engines have a better track record than their predecessors. They're around for 4 years now, so this much can be said.

@tombanic49028 жыл бұрын
Exactly, that's what I was saying, the chain driven engines have to have the oil change more frequently. And you cannot press the accelerator to the full when the engine is cold. It has to warm up to a regular operating temperature, than you could drive regularly, before that you have to let the engine to warm up with a smooth drive, with low RPM. This engine is not designed to operate on high RPM-s (like Honda's or other sporty vehicles).

Actually you're wrong, it's proven that the combustion chamber area is less efficient in a 5v engine than a 4v, Ferrari also discovered this after they made the F355 which had 5v per cylinder, every generation after that used a 4v design and they didn't have to consider about the injector placement as only the California and the 458 use direct injection, get you're facts straight first...
