I have two spring valves broken, cylinder 2 and 4, mechanic quoted 1500$, is it worth changing them ? How can we know that there hasn't been extra damage to the engine ? Car is 2014 tiguan

What year and how many miles? My 2015 Passat SEL with 43,000 is in the dealer now and they told me it's a broken valve spring. They are running it by the warranty department to see if it can fall under the 60K mile drive-train warranty. What the heck causes a broken valve spring at 43,000 miles??

Vodka Tonic this one had about 38,000 miles and. The company that was manufacturing vw OEM valve springs was using poor material they no longer work with that company

Hi Kane my Jetta 2015 with 51k mi just had the same thing. Dealer is asking alot of money but and they are pretty sure its Valve spring on my misfire in cylinder 4. Is there any way to know if there will be further damage and expenses without opening engine? It's already an expensive fix and have lost warranty due to accidents. Car is great shape other than this.

Hello Can you replace the valve spring with the head on , or you have to remove it to repair thanks
@kaneeyez4 жыл бұрын
You dont have to remove the head if you get the right tool and a second person , I didn't remove the head I used a leak down tester filled the cylinder with air to keep the valve from falling down then removed the spring and installed the new one with the help of another mechanic

I have a similar one in the shop right now. 61k miles and broken valve spring--customer purchased a complete used engine instead of repairing the current one.

Mike Kleiner used engine is way cheaper then this repair

Hi just wondering if anyone else has this issue? 61.8K on my 2015 1.8 SEL Passat same issue... just outside 60K warranty.. trying to decide what to do with it.

Get it fixed

@@kaneeyez Thanks for posting this video. Yeah I'm planning on getting it fixed after some research today. I was just wondering if more people have this issue? This seems like a part that should not be failing at this mileage and it seems like at least for one other person who commented on this video the part failed within 1000 miles of the warranty ending which is very close to where my car is at. It's also an expensive fix for a car that is relatively new (VW is quoting me $2500 USD just to get to point where the part is accessible (16 hours of labor), plus parts and maybe other stuff if there's more damage once they get to that point).
@kaneeyez5 жыл бұрын
@@ethanstuber916 yeah its pretty common I've done tons of them and you can get it done for less then 2500
