Thank you for asking the designer about the front lip. I had a question myself, why make such a risky design solution?! At first I personally didn't really accept the front lip as an attractive element of the car. But when seeing the car few times I'm actually starting to accept it.

I like this evolution of the VW CC. I'm a bit biased towards the car, since I own a CC myself, but it has some undeniable qualities. It's pretty, spacious, has an air of quality to it and is somewhat upper classy without being ostentatious. It can punch above its weight class, so to say, but I don't think that it can be a real competitor for the E class, 5 series or the A6, unless the buyer can't really afford those... I'd take it however over the A4/5, 3/4 series and C class. Oh, and no animal skin interior for me please, Thomas really opened my eyes on this issue!

Enjoyed watching this review/interview combo again. One thing that I always find curious, is that car journalists always mention Audi A5 as competition for this car. If people chose this car over the A5, I personally don’t think VW will care, as it is more cannibalisation, rather than competition. They get the money anyway. I think VW will be happy either way. Audi is VW is Porsche etc.

North America is supposed to get this replacement for the CC late 2018. I hope it does well. Historically, VWs German built offerings (Touareg, previous Passat) have not.

Hi Thomas, with regards to your question about the "child safety test" of the rear hatch.... If the motor used to close the boot of the Passat is also used in this car then the reason for this one stopping easier is that the N.m (Newton meter) the motor needs to generate to push your arms out of the way is much higher as the motor is placed further away from your arms as with the Passat, thus the further you are from the motor the easier it is to stop it... Really nice looking car., even better than an Audi A4/A5/Sportback. Interior and dash lay-out also has better presentation. Like the color combo in the video, just the right amount of chrome to make it stand-out more. Top review Thomas., really appreciate that you have the designer to explain further how some of the detailing within the exterior was thought out.

Noice! Interesting car and great review. Much better looking than current CC. I think VW is on to something here. If you can offer style and interior space like an MB E or BWM 5 or Audi A6 for the high $30 to low/mid $40K (USD) then you really have to start to wonder if they can steal some market share from the premium brands that cost $15K-$20K more

Why are LED lights an optional on such a car in 2017? The rear view is very nice! I hope to see more alcantara & leatherette seats: best solution for the environment and convenient for the customer. The analog clock err...NOPE! Hahaha in Italy we would find a cooled steering wheel more useful. VW have a really good build quality so beware Mercedes and BMW :D

We approve of the ARTEON in terms of its design language and VW's bid to remain relevant in the mid-sized market. We are not keen to pay the premium price of an Audi A5 or E-Class MB simply for it's prestige and exclusivity when we can have similar comfort, performance and safety features for thousands less! We look forward to your road test evaluation, particularly the 4-Motion model as we live in Canada where traction and control are an issue for nearly six months of the year.

As a Passat CC owner: it seems to be a decent upgrade, as every changes/improvements was done with care I can see, but... but I miss a few state-of-the-art stuff. As an icon, this car deserves a little pack of high-end features if not all. Just a few examples: true HUD, faster infotainment with 21st century graphics (like any mid/high-end phone that potent owners of this car will have), some hybrid solutions (nowadays a sporty car does not mean the opposit of an eco-friendly vehicle), etc. Anyway Arteon is really appealing, but VW play a safe game here, a bit too conservative. And the video: again, professional, very clear and points at the most important factors. Thank you Thomas! Ps.: the birth of Arteon raises me a rather difficult question: Which way should I upgrade: A5 or Arteon? Until now it was an easy answer.

The exhaust is not fake.. the chrome tips are integraded, and a exhaust must have space for moving around a little bit!

The Interviews were a funny contrast: the first guy was very genuine and honest and obviously very proud of the car. The second guy though was a bit confused and didnt really seem to know how to answer the questions :D i think it was a bit funny... maybe it was the language barrier, who knows :)

I'm looking to get one in April 2019 when my lease ends. Couple of questions for you: Is the 280hp 2.0t engine the same as the MK7 Golf R? Will the 3.6 VR6 be available as well? USA release date was 2018 according to VW or later?

This car is beautiful, great all around, should be the most famous VW out there but it’s underrated and for a good reason: It’s just a more expensive Passat, beautiful outside but identical underneath and inside, which is not a bad thing but then when you’re about to spend 30K on a Arteon and you see an identical Passat for 25K, you choose the Passat cuz it might not be as Sexy as the Arteon but it still very good looking car And then it’s the problem of if VW make Arteon much better then the Passat, which puts Arteon on a scale of and Audi or a Benz, and that leads to a higher price and when you’re about to spend that much money and you see that for 5K more you can actually but a much fancier car, ofc you go for the fancier one. I love this car, but I don’t see it as long lasting series, just like the CC.

Very good, professional job Thomas! Thank you! A5 Sportback wins by-the-way. I like the profile. Like most 4 door coupes, it has a sporting vibe. Saab wants it's turbine wheels back. The face is cartoonishly bold like most VW and Audi's these days, so unfortunately we will have to wait longer for VAG to get this trend out of their system. Cheap add on lip to the front of the bonnet. The tail lights were borrowed from unimaginative Audi and BMW designs of the last 10 years. More masculinity or "butch block" (I'm going to trademark that 😉) with the the interior design. The more I see the VAG cars with the endless horizontal front dashboard air vent, the less I appreciate it, and them. Ridiculous and passionless! VAG needs to go shopping for designers in Italy again. Ciao!

Always perfect reviews. Thanks. I would like to ask you to stop testing acceleration from 0 to 100 and start 50-150-200. People mostly don't compete to each other in the cities where acceleration from 0km/h gives sence, but on a high-way good acceleration from 50 to 200 could be very helpful for everyone. Today every car producer announces good or very good time, but, for example, Japanise cars fade after 120 and seems like it takes them an etermity to accelerate to top speed of some ordinary 160-180-200km/h.

thanks! Actually we are more often giving you some 70-120 etc. than the full 0-100, as seen as in many of the recent reviews! Reason is safety first, its quite often not that safe to do from full stop

Yes, you do, but 120 is still not enough. I drive now Honda CRV and exactly after 120 engine fades. I also remember my stress on German high-way with Mazda 6, which drammaticaly weakened after 120 too. I believe those data to be very important as here hides a true difference between German and other cars. Also I believe that the potention of a car after 120 directly regards to safeness of drive as fast overtaking is very important too. P.S. I felt in love with Arteon from the first moment. It's great and I want it!

My one big question: one or two rear fog lights? :D I hate the asymetry on most cars. And really, 2.0l as a top engine? What happend to the great idea of the 3.6 VR6 CC? Damn those small engines really blow... That's what bothers me with the most non-german brands here in Germany, the lack of more than 4-cylinder engines. All in all, as a lover of the CC design I think the Arteon looks a bit futuristic, but still a really nice design, look forward to see it in person.

The competition is Audi A5 sportback has 252hp 280 ftlb. on VW I see 280hp but nobody gave torque. 30hp should make the VW faster if it also uses same 7speed DSG For me the VW grille and hood lip and headlight integration looks more busy, I won't say the Audi A5 SB looks better just more classic, and I would need to see it in person to decide if I like it as much as Audi. Something to get used to, I guess.

Base model cool? Really that would be the first time in a Volkswagen. Usually the baseline gets stripped of everything like the alu trim, fog lamps, led or xenon lights, leather, satnav, decent wheels, you name it. Configure a Passat Trendline par example, its utter poorness.

I think the lack of a PHEV is a serious own goal for VW, especially when the initial concept was. I also find it strange that they have said it's not on their agenda to release the Arteon as a PHEV either. I think the 530e will be the vehicle of choice at the higher end of the price point for the Arteon. Well in Europe that is, given the impending attack on diesel here. I say this as an owner of a VW CC and was waiting with great anticipation for this vehicle. I love its appearance and practicality, but it's direction in sustainability is questionable, animal skins aside.
