Mine was delivered yesterday in the same spec. Put it in sport mode and it will hold gears longer and pops and bangs if you let off at around 3k. Then back to comfort for the neighbours 😄

Great honest review relevant to irish buyers. Was lucky to have a 2hr test of the R end of march and can confirm it is the car to go for here if the budget allows. Having a tcr and knowing how it struggles for grip in only damp conditions even with PS4S tyres that definitely help can only imagine the CS can't be any better although probably a little more engaging to drive. Both cracking cars for anyone lucky enough to own!!

I've got one, 3 weeks ago. Did 2000 Kilometers, and im really happy with him. My exhaust is doing more pops and bangs than this car is doing.

Love it Nobby definitely the driver's car,my third new gti,..mrk 5...mrk 7..mrk 8,bought the Cs 45 an amazing car to drive, yeap expensive but so is every car these days thanks to an illegal vrt tax😅

Good review, however, I feel the difference between this and the regular Gti are significant. The diff, break, suspension, power, then styling…can’t compare the two, IMO. Also allot of our reviewer are getting pops in sport mode, ok, it’s not crazy, but again exhaust tone is a step up for standard Gti. So worth the step up from standard, absolutely, golf R worth €15k more (Ireland), not a chance.

For that money I'd prefer the top spec Kia Sorrento but obviously totally different type of car. Pretty cool HOT HATCH!

I have pops and bangs in the cs! Sportmode and rev up to 3500-4000. very loud bangs. Dont know why u dont have it

Great review! I am surprised by the lack of pops and bangs. I test drove the standard GTI and even that popped and crackled.

The DSG does make a boom when changing under hard acceleration but pops and bangs like in Ford and Renault hot hatches are not there from what I experienced anyway.

Hey Nobby, just finished the test drive. I can confirm that in "Sport" mode (this model didnt have the DCC) the sweet spot is around 3200 - 3400rpm... if you accelerate hard to this point and then release, you get nice pops and crackles. if you continue to gently feather the accelerator, you can keep getting the pops all day :)

Google Irish VRT and weep.... had an M3 on here a few weeks ago and VRT was over €40,000!

Wife has one in grey , wat I’ve realised is she’s listed as the primary user , when I get in using my key (the spare one ) anything could happen with the infotainment system And I’ve tried addin myself with no luck Really annoying but I can forgive it , for the drive is incredible and people do notice it’s not ure average Gti. But man do I miss the simplicity of the mk 7.5

Nice video Nobby! Just my opinion but the only MK8 that looks decent is the full spec R. It’s power and extra kit kind of makes up for the VAG cost cutting so evident on the new model

The differences are very subtle I think! If you want full on fogs, you’ve to go GTI for example

Great review as ever Nobby. I get what you mean there in terms of it not being as special as it should be inside as Renault were guilty of that in some of their earlier performance models in so far as you needed to feel like you were sitting in something special and apart from fancy seats, that was your lot. I know it was a couple of years from you drove the RS Mégane but would you have the Golf GTI Clubsport or the Mégane? If I wasn't doing the mileage I was and the insurance wasn't so crippling I'd love a hot hatch in the future tho' I dunno if it'll ever happen for me. As there's a marginally updated RS Mégane have you any plans to drive it again?

Great video…just wondering in terms if the standard suspension….could you live with it? I live in the sticks, and it’s become pothole heaven recently 👀

It’s more down to the wheel size and that awful clunk when you go over one but it was ok. DCC would be ideal if you’re concerned

Great review, was just wondering if you think it would be ok for the daily (i.e won't be too much harder or more annoying to drive than a lower powered car) if I don't push it too hard, and only actually push it when on track?

Both make fantastic dailies, but I would definitely recommend the DCC/ACC option.

If the Gti Clubsport is supposed to be the most involving and best drivers/track car of the Golf range, shouldn't one really have it in a manual(!?),... Anyway, I'm currently looking for a proper drivers car and am considering getting into either a Civic Type R GT (I'm not a conformist so I don't care if it stands out),.. A Golf Clubsport (Which I like the look of, but not sure it's on par around the Ring as the others?!),.. A Megane RS 300 Trophy (pretty much ticks all the boxes, but only the rare Trophy-R models tend to hold their value),.. Or a Hyundi I30N which seems to fit somewhere between the Golf and the Megane. I track often and visit the green hell several times a year and was wondering if you have thoroughly tested the above cars, which would you consider to be 'the' most balanced track and purist driver focused car,.. Which would you take to the Ring for a week if you could only take one? I appreciate any feedback on this as the I30N is the only one that I've been able to properly test drive to its limits and feeble 5 minute drives around a town for the rest, was just nowhere near enough to find the limits of the cars in which they would be eventually used if chosen. I'm a farely new sub to your channel, but I'm enjoying your vids and I appreciate your 'down to earth' style of reviewing, happy new year my friend!

I’ve had a look at all the cars you’ve mentioned (some of the vids are a couple of years old) and the Civic is the one to have for that raw driver enjoyment. Then the Trophy. i30N is a great package for the price (especially used) and like all fast Golfs, CS is the one that is a great all rounder. Civic performance is unreal though.

Of the other few YT car reviewers (that like yourself actually have some driving experience behind them...) that I've asked, most have also said the Civic is the one to choose and this just affirms the best way to go for me. I really liked the handling of the I30N the price was good but I felt the power could've been better and it was a auto box, and I really want a manual... I appreciate you taking the time to respond, I look forward to viewing through your catalogue of YT content as time allows. Cheers my friend!

Hoping to order one in the next couple of weeks. However I am hearing that factory lead times are nuts at the moment. 6 months plus for a factory order for pretty much any VW.

Yeah I ordered a fully loaded CS in November and was due mid February until they pushed it back to beginning of May. Then I switched up the an R with performance pack which was what I wanted in the first place to replace my TCR. Every cloud has a silver lining and all that!!Car due in early June so hopefully will be collecting beginning of July.

Regarding the screen being sometimes buggy. It is dependent on the software version, you can get it updated at your local VW dealer, no more issues then. Why some cars have issues and some don't.

I drove a 128ti BMW recently, it’s a better car than the GTI or club sport , not as much power as the club sport but better built better to drive and better looking .

@@NobbyOnCars definitely it’s a fantastic car ! I’ve owned two mk7 golf R and the bmw light years ahead with the fit and finish and build quality. Handles beautiful no need for 4 wheel drive, more alive than golfs

@@robertvanzant2653I wouldn’t go for another BMW, I thought they were well built, well designed and reliable until I bought one new and found that they’re not well built, not well designed and unreliable and the BMW assistance even for a car in warranty was shocking, never again, I’d rather go Japanese.

Perhaps a little more urgency, a little better handling... you're talking minor stuff though. 7.5 TCR is fantastic!

Overall package and the fact that you can probably pick up a TCR for a good bit less now - it would be hard to look past it.

But you have a massivly inferior car with the standard gti ... you get + 55 hp, bigger brakes , an completly modified chasy and of course the spoiler etc.

@@NobbyOnCars thats Crazy in germany the Price difference is something around 3000€ which is why i orderd the clubsport. I think thats absolutly fair for all the Upgrades you get with the CS over the Standard car.

I would never buy an R Mk7 or Mk8 .. GTI club or PP or the TCR which I own are much better cars , also there are to many bloody R’s on the road , to common !!!!!

ugly, overpriced. MK7 looks better, my mk7 3 doors clubsport will be here for more years. I WAS a gti fan, the mk8 is just ugly, no 3 doors.... bye vw
