I just did mine. The hardest part was the top 7mm hex bolt. I had to use a 7mm key as my tools didn't have the swivel and short extension. But all this helped. I bought an ANCEL VD500 OBD II Diagnostic Scanner for about $50 USD that made it easy. Your video helped a lot, could not have done it without your help.

Remove the electronic parking brake off the back of the caliper, take the 2 t27 screws out and use a 9mm on the little shaft inside (turn clockwise with your hand) and push the piston in with a clamp or caliper compression tool and put it back together! You dont need an expensive scan tool to do this! 2021 vw tiguan se-rline, 3 different brake pads and rotors trying to find the best set for my 20" asanti black labels, worked for me every time with no problem and i think it might even be faster than the scan tool also

Don't even need to do all that just screw it in from the pad side like we have done for years. I helped a guy with his f150. He thought he needed to apply the E-e-brake! after he had the caliper off and the pads out! Anyway the E-e-brake screwed the piston all the way out brake fluid all over. Took the caliber and parts back to the bench and reassembled bleed the brakes applied the E-e-brake a couple of times and all good maybe 2 years and 20K miles. Did the same thing on two newer Honda civics no issues at all. That screw you turn will stay tight when hooked to the motor so the piston just screws right in. But the piston is the same as all the other pistons out there just slides back and forth on a square cut seal. If you can turn the old ones no reason you can't turn the new ones...

Thanks for this walkthrough. Ive never done any work on a car before and following along with this video helped me get my breaks done in ~20 minutes per side. Im in southern ontario and i couldnt believe how dirty and rusty everything was once i got the thing disassembled. A wire wheel was essential for me. Fortunately i grabbed one on a whim. I also used a $50 scanning tool to make the ebreak thingy go (if anyone is floored by the price of the fancy touch screen one in this video, there are affordable alternatives) Thanks again! Since the MQB chassis shares a lot of parts across the platform the rear rotors and calipers are the same on a Golf R 7.5 and Audi S3 8V (and submodels). This is nice because having to try and remove the rear caliper carrier not on a lift (i.e. jack stands) is near impossible due to the torque required. just turn the piston back in from the pad side no need for a scan tool or to remove the motor from the back and screw it in that way, like some say. Also why is everyone and all the info I’m seeing telling me I need to twist my caliper piston as I’m pushing it in? I don’t want to break it so I’m a little worried about just compressing it back like you did!
@fcpeuro5 ай бұрын
A lot of the older VW/Audi vehicles have calipers that need the pistons to be screwed in. On this newer Tiguan and other VAG vehicles, they simply press in like any normal caliper. If you were dealing with a caliper that had to be twisted in, it would not easily compress with a normal caliper tool.

I just did my rear pads and rotors and found that the driver side outboard pad was down to the metal, while the other three rear pads still had plenty of material. After replacement, I felt the car fighting acceleration giving it the gas, and actively decelerating (instead of coasting) when I let off the gas but didn't apply the brake. It's as if that pad is always actuated. Bad caliper? Bad guide pins? What gives?
@tidus_on_crack6570 Жыл бұрын
Very common on all cars to either have seized slide pins from lack of grease, or sometimes a hung up caliper. Only way to check for sure is to pull off the suspected culprit, and check that the slide pins move freely, take the caliper and compress, whatever tool you used it should compress relatively easy if you feel like you have to use all your strength the caliper is most likely seized up. Based on only the outboard pad being excessively worn I would suspect the slide pins are the culprit, but again only one way to know gotta take it apart and inspect the system. Sorry it took 4 weeks for anyone to reply to you

@@tidus_on_crack6570 Hey man, it's free advice and I appreciate it. I took the slide pins out and greased them up but the issue is persisting. @IanDeRanieri simply greasing the pins is not sufficient if they are rusted. As soon as the boot is torn, replace the boot and the slide pin. Sounds like a bad caliper to me but what do I know.
