Analysis of volleyball power hitter spiking and working on improving the arm swing motion to get more power from the tricep muscles. The key here is to get the hitting elbow bent right before contact so the tricep muscles can add more power and arm speed to hit the ball harder, with greater speed.
The athlete first goes through a re-patterning & activation drill that teaches the ideal mechanics and strengthens specific muscles in the shoulder & chest, then the athlete hits immediately afterwards to fine tune the mechanics in the air.
💪💪💪[Background - this 17 year old athlete had a severely inflamed hitting shoulder back in December and her physician shut her down from hitting (spiking) after the MRI showed no rotator cuff or labrum tear. We have been working on changing her mechanics from the "High Elbow" to a "Neutral Shoulder" arm swing that is based on whole-body rotation and the hitting shoulder moving in a much more stable & strong position. She has had no shoulder pain since modifying her arm swing mechanics.]
