When you hit a volleyball, how is your hand contact at the ball? (i know u hit @ palm, then snap the wrist) but i would like to know how to break it down specifically. Do we hit at center of the hand ( knuckles level) or at middle of palm, or at the end of palm (near wrist area level)? Thank you. Where we generate more power & control?

Ive been playing volleyball for 6 years now, and I find that you generate the most power when every part of your hand has a firm grasp on the ball upon contact. However, the power generally stems from the center of your palm and then out, but it shouldn't be one part of your hand specifally. it should be a combination, with the center of your palm as the primary power source. Some people who only like to hit hard and downwards like to get the heel of their palm (wrist area) on the ball since it was the most dense and blunt part of the hand, but it lacks control and you will surely get stuffed against a proper block.

Btw. How do u hit the ball when u misstep (u couldn't jump) or when the set is bad. I saw some people standing when they hit the ball. How is the hand motion. U hit at the bottom of the ball then swing it down. Or hit at the bottom of the ball then push ur arm up (like u try to lift something up) ?

Steven Tran no problem man. vball has some weird lingo depending on where you're from, but here in new york we call that a "down ball", when a player sends the ball over in a hitting-motion while grounded. I never thought about how i do it.. i just do, so i can't pretend to know the step by step process lol, but generally you just hit it the same way you would a normal a hit, except hit more at the bottom, like you said, to get a good arch on ball over the net. You don't necessarily need to swing down, but i understand what you mean. So yes, you kinda "swing down" meaning you hit it with forward force. Hitting at the bottom and pushing up sounds more like a chip/roll, which is a when you "chip" the ball ever so slightly so that it has a small arch and topspins down in front of your defenders. EITHER WAY, when you start getting better and start playing with better people, you will rarely need to down ball. You will learn how to adjust to the bad set (or your misstep), approach towards the ball, and jump to a full attack wherever it got sent (unless it was a very terrible set). Remember, the ball doesn't come to you. You go to the ball. Be aggressive.

Question. I have about a year of experience and am starting to really develop some power and control with hitting(thanks in part to your awesome videos). Should I be hitting to avoid blockers(sometimes sacrificing speed and power) or should I be hitting where I have the best angle and power to hit and just ignore the blockers because they might miss the block anyway? (it's a mixed bag of skill levels, ranging from high school varsity, some college experience, some club players, and others(like me) off the street players)

Jackbo M avoid blockers, fake a giant smash then dip it to the side
@dateko-53557 жыл бұрын
That advice shouldn't be taken... tipping isn't good if you do it all the time... if you are creating a angle that brings power towards the blockers make a approach that goes at a angle avoiding the blockers
@dragongod666sevagoth36 жыл бұрын
Jackbo M you should only angle it away from blockers if you know they aren't heading for you. Otherwise, SMASH THAT BALL DOWN!!! ;)

Is this for someone hitting on the left hand side of the court or on the right side? It seems to me that it would only go for the left hand side..
@dragongod666sevagoth36 жыл бұрын
coolheavymetal It could go for either side, actually. It's not better one way or the other. This technique is only to improve hitting control in general, not specifically directional hitting control.
@sidcro877112 жыл бұрын
for left handed hitters you would try to hit it on the top right then?
