Performance is the same between Plus and Ultra twin motor. Ultra is just bigger wheels self park and steering assist (lane centering). All models have adaptive cruise control.

I bought its twin the Smart #1 Brabus. Both are on the same platform both dual motor. The Brabus does come fully loaded that’s why it cost more I paid £43,450 in the UK.

It's actually terrible value. It says something that if you could buy a Model 3 at the same price you'd get a larger car with better range. Or buy an MG4 standard/trophy and save over €10,000. I do think the car looks really nice, and I envy the infotainment system but you'll be paying a premium to drive it.

I have a Tiguan with 615 litres boot space. It's just big enough. Ex30 looks OK, but surely not a competitor to the Model Y, which is likely my next vehicle.

My next is BYD Seagull (or similar that comes in Australia). The smaller/practical the more sanity left. I will never buy car without rear viper (unless the cameras replace that function)

The comparison to the 'hot hatches' and M cars is spot on. When moving from ICE into my XC40 All Electric (0-60 in 4.4 sec), my lead foot was the number on decision. Was specing out gas guzzling V8 M Sport SUV's, but getting into a luxury SUV that was faster was goal Number 1. Love the technology, over the air updates, and ride quality of the XC40, but it's still an ICE design wearing a battery. Can't wait till the first "purpose built" EV, the EX30 comes out. Probably going to swap it on the spot.

I was not comparing 4 wheel drive to 2 wheel cars, but instead front wheel drive cars compared to rear wheel drive cars during winter conditions as experienced in f. eks. Scandinavia, this based on that each vehicle comparison is otherwise equally equipped and specified.

Volvo couldn't beat the Germans wrt ICE so they go EV's. Besides, the volvos will be made in China as it's own by Geely. This volvos ex30 shares platform and mechanicals and batteries with "smart" another Geely model in joint production with Mercedes. Plus Lynk & co.

Even for a HUD I need to take the eyes off the road and concentrate for a second on the speedometer in the HUD. It doesn't make a real difference. The eyes move fast. I have driven a car with a HUD and an instrument panel. The difference is just how much the eyes move - and the eyes move so fast that it doesn't matter, it's the same short distraction, very short.

The cheapest EX30 in Ireland is €45,000. This is a ludicrous price considering that's the base model and the range for that model isn't very impressive. Range is 350km which implies maybe a 50kwh battery. An MG 4 with similar range is €13,000 less. Volvo / Geely of course are interested in nickel and diming people up from the base model so realistically you're looking at €53,000+ for the better range, paint, delivery etc. and at that point I'm wondering wtf will pay that for what is a relatively small vehicle. Since it's built on the same platform as the Smart #1 and Zeekr X, it might be looking at how much they cost. I bet if the Zeekr is on sale in the same market, that it will be considerably cheaper with better spec.

Why does no one make a small affordable EV with AWD? It seems to me that to get AWD in an EV you have to buy an expensive race car with crazy wheel size and crazy amount of horsepower. Who needs 20 inch wheels and 300 hp if their reason for wanting AWD is bad roads and occasional snow? Where is the electric equivalent to say a Subaru Justy or something like that?

Well you need to consider that in ultra trim and 4wd the drive away price is $75k - just to re emphasise the size element - body dimensions (ex mirrors) are 4233(l) x 1837 (w) x 1549 (h), a comparable small SUV is VW's smallest SUV the T-Roc 4251 x 1819 x 1599, it's smaller than Mitsubishi's smallest SUV the ASX 4365 x 1810 x 1640. Comparing it with a Model Y, which is the size of a Volvo XC60 / Q5 / X3 is completely the wrong comparison. The other issue that this model hopefully addresses is the notoriously bad efficiency of Geely vehicles for example the XC40 recharge RWD when tested in perfect weather was getting around 2.7mi per kwh at 70mph, miles away from the claimed WLTP of 4.2mi per kwh , that's just not good enough if you ask me.

AI According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), sedans accounted for 26% of the U.S. auto fleet in model year 2021. This is a significant decrease from the 50% market share that sedans held in model year 2013, and far below the 80% market share they held in 1975. This is a A$60k+ car. The interior is HARD plastic. As with the MG4, my 2008 VW Golf has a more pleasant driver, passenger environment. If they must, charge an extra A$10k and make the interior liveable! Why aren't we getting the SMART #1 and the SEEKR X? Both those cars have a HUD and the interiors, at least on the videos, look decent.

The only issue with the eX30 is the fairly modest range. For Europe and China that's not a problem. But for the US and especially for Australia it is big problem if you want to drive it anywhere outside the city.

Your mockery of the WRX is misguided... there is much, much more to a high performance car than acceleration. There is no doubt that the "instant" power/toque of an EV is one of its greatest assets. Perhaps we should conduct a proper production car race again at Mt Panorama... and pit the Volvo EX30 - and the Model Y Tesla, against some ICE performance cars... and see how they go over 1000km of flat out racing? I'm quite certain that multiple 25 minute pitstops for recharging, plus the tyre wear from the additional weight of the EV's would more than compensate for the acceleration deficit...

Deal and we restrict all the ice cars to only carrying the same net energy as the evs have. This Volvo ex30 has less than 2 gallons worth of gas in energy onboard in total. As road gas is 33.7kwhs per gallon and road diesel is 37.9kwhs per gallon. Porsche did this with their cayman gt4 e performance at Monaco against a gt3rs cup car. Ev has 2.5 gallons worth of energy and ran comparable lap time's as the gt3rs for 35mins on track. The ice guzzler? Did less than 2 laps and ran out of fuel. 😁👍🏻

The selling price of a car is meaningless whether its in Europe the USA or Burma, it all boils down to the individual country you're in, go to Denmark, cars are cheap to buy taxes astronomic, go to Portugal, car prices sky high taxes (what taxes) AUD $500 insurance and road tax for any mid size car there, the US, purchase + taxes mostly cheap, Australia, extremely high, i'm not going there, heart beat 200 beats per minute and rising, for other countries, work it out. Tesla cheaper than in the US, probably, but like an Ink Jet Printer, cheap to buy, now go buy some inks, haaaaa.

Are they actually making money on it at that price. The MY RWD is $36,490 after rebate. I just can't see paying the same for an unproven car. Maybe when they start making it in the US I'll consider it. I'm just real leery of buying a car with CCP roots.

No idea? It costs 20-30% less per trim in China. And Volvo is avoiding the import tariff due to being an exporter of us made cars to other countries from what I've seen being said. So it's possible they could actually make something on them? But is every Volvo dealer going to be certified to service them, repair them. Update them and do any needed recalls etc. That is something nobody has an answer to yet, what a joke imo. 😏

yeah i need to see if there is any update about that BYD car that basically kidnapped its driver and refused to shut off even after throwing out the fob and hitting the power button. poor guy had to crash into a cop car to stop. shades of runaway toyotas after switching to drive by wire

Icy conditions require front wheel drive or all wheel. Rear drive is uber dangerous!!! WTHeck we have tons of deaths already why have rear wheel drive even legal in most countries with cold weather😱❤️

This car has absolutely nothing to do with the Volvo of old. Those things were tanks that could run forever. Modern Volvos are Chinese junk. My neighbors had one. Watched it fall apart in front of my eyes. Hopefully tariffs will keep these things out of the USA. Australia would be wise to do the same. I would not put it past the CCP to give the car a self-combust feature that can be triggered wirelessly. If Huawei electronics can't be trusted, then there is no way rolling incendiary bombs should be allowed. All Chinese vehicles should be banned by law, the same way the CCP just banned Telsas and iPhones..
