What a nightmare! Mine is a 2005 2.4i. I managed it eventually thanks to your video and some of the comments. I had a struggle removing the fusebox from the bracket and then had to remove the metal bracket that holds the fusebox and remove the connectors from the top of the fusebox to make room. Tellingly, the bracket was only attached with one of the two nuts and the cover to the filter housing only had one screw securing it so the previous filter change had also been a struggle. At least it made it easier for me. As mebtioned by John Vickers, don't forget to remove the + battery terminal before un plugging the connectors. The Haynes manual was useless and said that you can swing the fusebox to the side without removing the connectors. I don't see how they could have actually tried-out changing the filter. Also no mention of having to remove the metal bracket

Just done this today, I liked your video to hopefully improve its reach to people who search the subject in the UK!

One thing he didn't mention is that there's an arrow on the filter showing the direction of air flow which should point towards the back of the car, it should only be put in this way round.

Hi there. Appreciate the video, thanks for posting it. Just had a go at this. My fuse box wont come out enough (even with bracket that holds it removed) to get me access to the filter housing. Do you know is it possible to disconnect the cables from the fuse box in order to make some room or will that do damage?

Hi thank you for your comment and the fuse box should come forward and then drop to the floor of the car and I didn't remove any plug sockets to do this and the removal of the bracket that holds the fuse box I hope yours is the same version that I worked on.

@@patcarmax Hi, ok thanks. Mine's a 1.8 petrol 2006, so maybe not the same. Took me an hour to get the fuse box bracket off and box still not coming out enough to reach filter housing. Given up as don't have the time! Volvo design is a bad joke! Cheers

@@gavstar69 Mine's a MY2008 2.0D SELux and I had to remove the connectors from the board. Disconnect the battery positive. All connectors are differently keyed so can't be wrongly reconnected, though if you're unsure, take a photo before you begin just in case. With the board in place, remove the lower ones (large ones have a black "cover" which acts as a lock - hinge it back and it will lever the socket out of the board; smaller ones have a black bar/saddle running across the top from side to side - depress the small socket-coloured tab and then hinge the saddle over it and again it will lever the socket out). Drop the end of the board nearest to you (you may need to help the very thick multicore on the right-hand side as it fouls a support bracket) and it should then pull towards you. You can then detach the upper connectors in the same way. Mine also had a smaller square connector that was a simple depress-tab-and-pull. All this for a "service" item. I bet dealer don't change it often.

@@safefix Many thanks. I ended up leaving it in for a service and got mechanic to do it. Way beyond my abilities I'm afraid. Thanks for the help though!
