Bud. I tell you what. I used to play in a bluegrass club and played mandolin at times when I was a boy. mainly guitar. after 15 years Im inspired to pick it back up. Thanks for posting this. You handled it like a boss.

With all that experience with guitar mandolin shouldn't be too hard to pick up I seem to be learning it pretty fast my self, I'm no where near as good as this guy not even 1% as good lol

chills and mad respect I own a 1917 gigson a-1 and was amazed at the differinc in playability and tone but good god man I bow to your mastery of this instrement you need to play with My frend brother randy violin he played at the second woodstock sunday morning did jimmyhendrix style star spangeled banner he ran effects peddels with his bare toes and left jaws hanging like you have mine

for some reason i used to think the mandolin was a dumb instument but this video has completely changed my outlook on it and i am going to get one now and i want to learn voodoo child ur an inspiration to me and started up my mandolin career and i feel a good mandolin will fit well with all 5 of my guitars

Lot of it is by ear, but as far as scales, it would be the E blues scale (E, G, A, B, D) with the b5 (Bb) and the 9th (F#) thrown in for good measure. Maybe an Em9 scale?

I'm just getting started on the mandolin and I don't know if it's me or the mandolin that's crap, but I can't even play a single pull off. Let alone play an entire song without any need for other instruments. Truly cool, man.

Ever since I started to get into country music about five years ago I've been in love with mandolin and I even got one about two years ago. Anyway, your videos--which I just came across when looking for covers of Freddie King's "Hideaway"--are just outstanding! I mean, I've heard some rock and blues artists use mandolin, but I've never heard any use it as well as you do!
