I just want to say thank you. I'm a 60 year old man and have enjoyed music for a long time, I have also missed most of the new music because I lived hopelessly in the past with my musical favorites. A friend half my age turned me onto you and I became an instant fan of your work. I play a 12 predominantly but want to go to the Lap steel because of your expertise. I put your channel on for hours listening. I will be purchasing instructional material soon. Thanks! Awesome work.

I think Justin J is the best blues guitarist on the planet today. Whether he's playing a six or twelve string acoustic, an electric, a shovel, a frying pan, a garden hoe, a shotgun, or a strung-up oak tree, he always brings some insanely tasty chops out. I build guitars for a living, and I like to listen to Justin playing on KZbin through my workshop iPad. I think Justin's putting some of his mojo into my builds.

My understanding of music theory is like 3rd chair high school band level at best. I know just enough to suspect how much I don't know. I'm unfit to judge the man, but damn he sounds wild, innovative, and incredible. People who think he's overrated, I just.... What? How?
@RKCjsstevens

@@DeadeyeJim327 it’s not his technique people are in love with, it’s his innovative and unique style, his imaginative lyrics, and his ground breaking manner of creating atmosphere with things like feedback, rotating speakers, etc. Other people might technically play guitar “better”, but while they played other people’s music with their guitars, Hendrix created worlds with his.

If anyone on here thinks this stuff is out of reach, they should pore over Justin’s finger picking tutorial video and stick at it, until it eventually clicks. I’ve been playing for ten months and that video taught me to finger pick before I could use a plectrum. Finger picking always looks badass as well as so many folk don’t bother to learn it.

Now THAT'S the way to play a twelve string. Aggressively restrained. Love the way the man leaves spaces to figure out what he's going to do next. When doing a session in Chicago I met a swing fiddle player named Joe Venuti. Afterwards he was smoking a cigar sitting in the lounge. He said to me, "You're really good, kid. Just remember to breathe. Good players are judged on the notes they play. Great players are judged on the notes they leave out." This is a great version. Great. Thanks much for sharing it.

It doesn’t fucking matter how much theory you got figured out behind the music. The feeling and purpose who pushes you to play it gotta be the first drive to it. Damn man ain’t gonna do no 500iq statement but that was good. Thank you Justin !

I beg to differ mate. Learning music theory is the most effective way to get better at music. If you're not a prodigy from the start, you're not going to become a prodigy without learning your ABCs

Amazing, yes! Actually, if you look closely it's a 10-string: the middle two strings aren't double-coursed. Not sure why he did that, maybe easier to bend them?
