Just tried this. Never knew it could be so easy to make. Turned out excellent. Now I’m not missing my mum-in-law during lockdown! I used to get her to make this thinking it was an elaborate recipe!

Thanks Warren! Yes you can use coconut milk powder ( I use it in a lot in my recipes). The result will be just as fantastic but do use a good brand as some cheaper brands may give a rancid taste

Very important: add jaggery only after the moong dal is fully cooked. If you add it at half cooked as in this recipe, the dal remains uncooked. I followed this recipe to a T only to have my moong dal still uncooked, I called my mum who told me always add jaggery later. I don’t know why this wasn’t explained in the video, but annoyed at my effort being wasted

Sorry to hear that you were not happy with the recipe. Unfortunately I am unable to see if you boiled the dal till the desired texture is achieved. The dal must be cooked but not turn mushy and must retain it's texture. I have clearly mentioned that in my video. I am not sure if you prefer vorn that has moong dal that is mushy. In which case it will turn into a paste towards the end.

No worries! Not harsh at all, on the contrary I value your feedback. I usually take care to convey my recipe in a way that is understood by all so I am a bit sad that you did not have success with this recipe. What I meant was that the dal texture needs to be retained otherwise by the time you add the jaggery and coconut milk and boil it, the whole mixture becomes one homegeous paste/thick soup like consistency and personally my family doesn't like it. Nevertheless, please feel free to express :-) I will ensure that I am more clear in my future recipes. Thanks for the kind words S M and please do stay tuned for my upcoming recipes!

Shucks! I saw it, I'm so very sorry. The written recipe is old and I shot the video recently. I guess in the hurry to post I have not updated my written recipe in a more elaborate way. My sincere apologies to you (I wish I knew your name!). I have updated my recipe now. Thanks for being so kind...if we ever meet, I will definitely make up for the wasted ingredients :(
