There are 8 exceptions to this initiative including protecting, human life, property, and livestock. One of the videos above, the one with the cat charging, is misleading and does not show that the person with the camera was not backing off and appeared aggressive towards the cat for quite some time. There was an opportunity to walk away and instead, they chose to film for the likes and clicks. Just because you process the meat for human consumption doesn't mean you are going to consume it and not still mount the parts as trophies as the original intention.
@vincenttphan91202 ай бұрын
Would you pay for a license, go through the effort of finding this majestic animal, and harvest it just to leave the meat you have to process for consumption in the freezer? No. Have you tried it? If you’ve had mountain lion meat you’d know it’s quite good! Also the exceptions allow employees or those licensed by the Dept of P&W, Interior or Agriculture or those licensed by them such as career hunters/outfits. Currently any hunter who applies can provide revenue to CPW, provide food for their household and aide in management goals. If this passes, you’d create an expense for the department where outfits or possibly out-of-state professionals hunt these majestic animals in the exact same way, but would not be required to prepare them for consumption because Wanton Laws don’t apply since they’re no longer “big game”. All these exceptions involve protection of life or property. BUT since this 0:18 declassifies Mountain Lions as “big game” ranchers would not be able to receive compensation for lost livestock. So… supporting this proposition increases costs, reduces hunters ability to feed their households, creates more waste, hurts ranchers/farmers, and removes a source of revenue for meat processors and taxidermist. How do you think helps Coloradans of any class to any capacity?

Why? Their population is strong even with the current hunting numbers. CPW closely manages their numbers and issues hunting raffles accordingly. Lynx are already a federally banned animal to hunt. There have been 0 reported cases where a Lynx was killed in Colorado, meaning that a Game Warden hasn't even spotted an individual with a fur-bearer license mistakenly kill a Lynx. Mountian Lions require additional licensing to even hunt.

Thank you! I assume that you know what the proposition means and that it would stop hunting these cats with dogs and indiscriminate hunting for pelts and heads, particularly for out-of-state or out of country Trophy Hunters. There is also no protection for nursing mothers. Or young cats. I wish I knew where to get a sign to put on my yard to vote Yes.

Let’s remind folks that when harvesting mountain lions in a Colorado you are legally required to prepare the meat for human consumption. NOBODY is hunting these beautiful creatures to just create a mount or take their pelt. If you plan on voting for Proposition 127 I ask you what you believe will happen when a predator population grows unchecked. With the absence of any other species to hunt them, won’t populations grow? Won’t these populations then require more resources to survive? How will that affect their prey’s population? How will this affect the workload of our already strained P&W departments? If hunters can’t work with P&W departments to facilitate their research, won’t that mean P&W will have to possibly cull populations? When you vote for Prop 127, you’re now discrediting the most knowledgable people overseeing our wildlife, increasing their workload, decreasing revenue that was originally used to support their department, which will increase your taxes. Now Colorado hunters won’t have access to a source of food, other wildlife populations will suffer, and your increased tax dollars are going to the government to harvest the very same animals in same exact way. Is this really what you want?
@lindaincolorado26462 ай бұрын
If you think people are not harvesting these cats for their heads or their pelts, you are naive. You really think the Department of Wildlife checks to make sure that those cats were eaten?
@lindaincolorado26462 ай бұрын
On the other hand, the Department of Wildlife will not stop allowing hunting license if the Cougars population is above a certain number. Read the proposition.
@vincenttphan91202 ай бұрын
@@lindaincolorado2646 This is an example of how little respect those supporting this proposition respect CPW’s work. They have not encountered a violation of Wanton Law in over five years. They do great work to enforce our ecosystem and limit wasteful harvesting. Although they may never be able to enforce harvest to table, they are able to enforce Wanton Law through taxidermy and meat processing after you confirm your harvest/tag. You would not go through the efforts of a hunt, paying a meat processor/taxidermist just to waste the meat. I can assure you no hunter is wasting the fruits of their labor for only a mount. With all due respect, it may be you that needs to read the proposition more in depth. The proposition classifies killing or wounding as “Trophy Hunting”. In the verbatim the exceptions of the proposition include employees of Parks and Wildlife, Department or Agriculture, or Department of the Interior. This also includes licenses issued by these departments for professional hunters to aide the departments. This is NOT the same as a tag system. So instead of collecting revenue from any eligible hunter via a tag raffle, we would now have to pay outfits/contracted hunters, giving them a license to work as extensions of the government who would’ve otherwise hunted these amazing animals the same way as any other hunter. Not to mention, department employees/contractors would also not be required by Wanton Law to prepare these majestic animals for human consumption because they’d be no longer considered “big game” by these very same laws. Please reconsider your position on this topic, and understand that this proposition will not only create a larger tax burden on Coloradans by increasing costs/reducing revenue, eliminate the general populations freedom to participate in hunting guided by CPW, but also kill these animals in vain.

They are coming to urban areas because the urban people came to them and took over their territory. If people want to live where wild animals live they have to learn to live with the wild animals. I have had clients who own mountains near Conifer who protect the elk and deer in their area and protect their dogs by building special enclosures for their dogs and being careful to understand the big cats needs. They take pictures when the big cats lay on their walls near their homes or the rocks nearby. If you don't like wild animals stay away from Colorado!
