I just want to say I really appreciated the historical context, both in the game and in the playthrough. I looked up a few of the people and events I didn't know about!

At 37'05" you mentioned Mary Wollstonecraft... She's better known as Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, author of Frankenstein!

A seminal moment in the women's movement, for sure!

This game does not seem entirely clueless about history, but having only seen a fraction of the cards, do you think its perspective on history might be rose-tinted? I'm thinking here about how the suffragette movement threw Black people, Black women in particular, under the bus to win the right to vote for white women, which then worked to offset the few gains that had been made in the South during Reconstruction, in terms of Black voting participation. The subtitle even says -1920, but Black women could only access the ballot box in 1965, at least officially, and then you've got voter suppression still ongoing, in explicit policy and implicit factors influencing access, like poverty, etc. I guess what I'm asking is, how much liberalism, which includes American conservatism, is in this game? Does it distort this game's perspective of history, or how white feminist is it?

I find that the game is pretty honest about its white feminist lens. It knows what it is, while at the same time not hiding the problems. The “Southern Strategy” card, for example, gives advantages to the player but ultimately hurts when comboed with the Partiarchy’s Southern oppression cards, reflecting what I call the “Faustian” bargain that some women made (Susan B Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton) with white racists.

I am the designer and a white feminist, and I was taught the history of the suffrage movement via traditional narratives that centered white women. I developed the game with present day research and an intersectional lens, focusing on representation and honesty about the flawed strategy. Through the cards (like Southern Strategy, as well as Xenophobia, & White Supremacy in the Suffrage Movement), historic reproductions, and designer notes, I hope it's clear from my modern perspective that a strategy that excluded large segments of the population - including Asian American and Native women - is a flawed strategy and my politics requires an All of Us or None outlook. I will also mention that whether Black women could vote and when depended on where they lived, and women like Ida B Wells worked very hard to bring the Vote to Illinois well before the 19th Amendment was passed. To say Black women couldn't vote until the Voting Rights Act is to disappear the hard and important work and civic representation of many, many women. My designer notes are also incredibly clear about the difficult work we still face to ensure women with convictions can access the ballot box and the need to eliminate laws that suppress the vote along racial and class lines. I hope learning about the power of an imperfect movement convinces players to join a modern movement for a cause they care about deeply!

Thank you for the playthrough Jason, really enjoyed watching along, buy disappointed that the game won't be available for retail, at least not in the UK. The KS page redirects for pre-order but I dread to think what the shipping costs will be! Happy New Year to you and yours! Thanks for all the great content this year, looking forward to what 2023 will bring!

Is this solely a two player game against a bot?
@kevinbertram4828 Жыл бұрын
No, you can play either coop or solitaire against the bot, or you can play competitive with one or two players playing each side (so 2-4 in competitive mode).

How many times have you played this Jason? And how is the game replayability? The theme draws me to it.
@OneStopCoopShop Жыл бұрын
About five times solo so far. Replayability is... ok. The greatest thematic strength of the game might hold a weakness - the history cards and how they combo. It's fun to see the combos, but they're simple and you'll often repeat the same ones over different plays. YMMV, though, since the board state and card order do change.
@viktorkm Жыл бұрын
@@OneStopCoopShop so if playing 2p against the bot it would habe higher replay right? As you only get to see half of the cards yourself? And not be able to always donthe same combos?
@OneStopCoopShop Жыл бұрын
@@viktorkm The player count doesn't really matter. It's the same number of actions split among the players.
