💯for wear and tear on the edges of your comp book and binder just to reinforce you can use clear packing tape which will let your design be seen but keep the book from separating. Before designing my covers I actually use the clear packing tape around the edges where mine seem to get the most worn. I love the idea of using magazines, comic strips and book pages. I seem to have so many of them laying around. Plus sometimes I get tired of stickers. Too bad I’m not and artist like you, but I do the best I can. Because I travel with my book, everyone that sees it is impressed. Doctors always marvel at how organized I am. Truth be known I’m really quite forgetful, but keeping a journal/composition book is like talking to yourself.

Thank you so much for watching!! Great idea :) I've never had an issue with too much wear and tear on my comp books; that's one of the reasons I like to use them. I absolutely love composition books too. I think a lot of it is the size of them. But a big part is how easy it is to cover the covers. The way I do those is to put carpet tape completely over the front and back covers up to the black spine, then I take the carpet tape backing off, lay my paper on right up to the black edge, flip the book over and trim the edge with an exacto knife. It's quick and easy and holds perfectly.

I just found your channel & I have no idea what a fauxbanichi is or if I'm spelling it correctly. But I sure do love your journals. I do the same glueing process when I'm altering hard cover books, that is gluing pages together. For some reason I also prefer the composition books. I think it's because they aren't too big nor too small. They are just right. Thanks for sharing your techniques. I recognized the cover of the one journal from Cat Hand's MMM series. It looks really nice on the larger composition book.
@NeverHopelessbyElizabeth7 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching!! A Fauxbonichi is a "fake" Hobonichi which is a Japanese form of an illustrated diary. Hobonichi translates as "almost everyday". This is my third year keeping this type of journal and I really love it. It is the only diary/journal type of thing that I've found I can be consistent with. I suppose because it combines writing with a bit of creativity thrown in. I much prefer using the comp books. I tried some TNs at the beginning of last year, but they didn't work for me like the comp books do, and you are right, they are just the right size. Do try it out, it is so fun :) Love Cat Hand's work, she is so talented and a sweetie to boot. Be well, Elizabeth

Thank you so much for watching!! Not gonna lie, gluing is quite the arduous task! I've tried it both ways and I go back to gluing each time; I just like the way it thickens the paper. If I could find a journal that had grid and was thick enough, I'd just use that instead, but I haven't had any luck finding such a book. Be well, Elizabeth

Never Hopeless by Elizabeth I really don't use paints and I water to try water color even if the pencil ones but have not tried them yet. But I know the distressed stains go though but know enough to bother me and I have not tried the ones in the bottle yet and I think the ink pad ones go though some too. At least in my current journal from home goods. I still want to finish the magazine one have not finished glueing pages yet. Would love a craft location to keep everything out.

Interesting -- I never thought about gluing the pages together. I like your journaling process... and will probably be trying it out soon. I started a composition book for lettering practice last year but didn't get far in it... I'll use that and try your method as time permits.
@NeverHopelessbyElizabeth6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching!! Be prepared, as my method takes a LOT of glue!! It is my preferred method because I like a more thick substrate to work on. If you find you are not fond of using so much glue, many people just washi their pages together to prevent the bleed through. Hope you are able to try it out; I've really enjoy this type of journaling and find it so rewarding. Check out the FB Group Fauxbonichi Journalers (link is in the description) if you haven't already. It is a lovely group with lots of inspiration and encouragement. Be well, Elizabeth

this is great, i've seen the journaling by 5's done in the composition books, but this is so much different and much better. I may try this as it looks so much less expensive than a dylusions journal. I look forward to seeing the process of how you do a page layout.
@NeverHopelessbyElizabeth8 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment!! Journaling by 5's is a bit different as it is more of an "art journal" and holds a lot more mixed media. I totally love this type of journaling, as it incorporates the best of both worlds for me; it can be anything you want it to be. If you enjoy art, put art, if you enjoy journaling, put journaling. I enjoy both, so I put both. Never have owned a Dylusions journal, so I cannot speak on that matter. I can only say that for this particular type of journaling, I really enjoy using an altered comp book. Hope you try it out, and happy journaling to you! Be well, Elizabeth

I love watching your videos, I'm new to the fauxbonichi and have got so much inspiration from your channel so thank you, I tried using the glue but had way to many bubbles. So ended up using double sided tape, works wonders! 😄 x

Hi Elizabeth, thank you for your videos. I glued together some pages using Aleene's tacky spray and it worked really well.
@NeverHopelessbyElizabeth7 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Oh, that sounds interesting, thanks for telling me. Question: Does the aerosol get everywhere when you're using it and make everything around you sticky? I only ask because I've used spray adhesive before and it was a sticky mess. If that is not the case, then for sure, I'm gonna have to try this out :) Thanks again, and be well, Elizabeth

Never Hopeless by Elizabeth - Hi again, I did it outside, put a big plastic Baggie under the page I was spraying and really only the bag got messy. The pages smoothed out really well and feel very strong.

Thank you so much for watching!! I love using composition books for my journaling. Of late I alter them into more of a junk journal for my daily journaling, but back when this video was filmed, I was journaling in a "Fauxbonichi" it's just another way to journal daily. If you look on my channel, in the playlist section, you will find one titled, "Flip Thrus" and there is a plethora of videos showing my journaling through the years using comp books. YAHOO!!!!! Thank you so much for making this video. I will admit, when I watched your horrible breakup video, I was almost glad about the breakup(for selfish reasons of course). Hahahahaha, terrible aren't I??!! Your video was fantastic! Very thorough and answered all my questions. I continued gluing towards the front instead of going towards the back from the center, and that made the book wonky! I am so glad you did this video, thank you Elizabeth!!! Yes, continue to make the process videos. I love them. I tried to do a ramble video once, but I bored my own self. hahahahahah. :D

Thanks so much for watching Wendy, and I'm so thrilled that I explained it well enough for you to understand. I'm glad for the break up too, but shhhh, don't tell my MTNs!! I can't wait for July to come, so I can begin anew. Glad you watched to the end, because I totally forgot to mention that if you continue to glue toward the front, it will make the book wonky!! Be well, my dear friend!! Elizabeth xo

Love how you journal and doodle and glue on your pages. I think that you said these pages don't take to water color; acrylic as well?
@NeverHopelessbyElizabeth7 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching and for your sweet comment. I can use anything in these books provided the pages are glued together. If I use watercolor, I'm fairly light on the water. I've used acrylic without issue as well. The only thing I haven't used is mod podge, I just think it would be too wet. HTH :) Be well, Elizabeth

Thank you for the videos. Can you tell about how many regular size glue sticks it takes to prepare one composition book? I didn’t think I was putting it on too thick but I’ve already used one stick and half of another and only did five sets 😳
@NeverHopelessbyElizabeth3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching Connie!! All I can say about the amount of glue sticks is...a lot...One of the reasons I stopped making books this way and went to sewing my own signatures in is that it just took too long for me to glue it all up, and it uses a ton of glue, especially since I work full time now. It's just easier for me to make my own signatures, but still have the size of the comp notebooks. I use dye the paper that I take out and use it in other journals. Be safe and be well, Elizabeth
@mom2triplets043 жыл бұрын
Are you still using these composition notebooks? Are you doing the fauxbonichi still? I just started a new comp book I'm calling it an art journal. Just doing painting and journaling prompts in mine. Not my fauxbonichi which I'm now using planner perfect notebooks for. How do you store all the notebooks you have made that are complete?
@NeverHopelessbyElizabeth3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching Laura!! I am still using the comp books, and no I don't call them a Fauxbonichi any longer. I found that there were too many "rules" for my liking, especially when I started putting in lots of tags, tucks and pockets into my journals, so I just call it a Creative Daily Journal now. I store all of my journals on shelves in my open craft closet, I'm on my 39th book now :) Be safe and be well, Elizabeth

Thank you so much for watching!! If you are glueing pages together, it's important to really get your glue on there all over; you can't be stingy with the glue. I've got books that are five years old and none of the pages have come unglued yet :) Have a Happy New Year!! Be well, Elizabeth

@NeverHopelessbyElizabeth7 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching!! LOL, I don't get things done in time!! If you are referring to doing my pages, I don't work on my journal daily even though I have daily entries. I try to do everything in pencil first, then I go over it all in pen. I do that for a couple of reasons. I am usually well behind on doing my pages, but mostly I just have to add color. I use lots of post it notes as well to remind me of what I've done throughout the days. If you continue with the series I think I explain it in later parts. HTH :) Be well, Elizabeth
