Covered the most common case where this will be needed! Only went over baking Diffuse/Albedo Textures. If you want to bake other map types, such as Normals, you can replace them into their materials exactly like we did the albedo textures in the video. Wow this is exactly what I've been looking for and more. Tysm for recording this. I can see how much effort it's been put to this tutorial, from the precise explanations down to the details of timestamping the video and having a nice chill background music to go with it. Simply amazing.

This is, by far, the best video i could find on there atlasing process. I can guarantee i’ll be sending a lot of people from my Discord group here who want to know how to make a green or Quest version of their avatar. Thank you so much!

sick video, honestly well explained, i now understand atlasing without using the cats plugin. I've had issues with it making weird atlases

heres a tip on packing islands. blender can do this automatically. you go to the top menu bar, select uv and then pick pack islands.

I’m getting to the part where you add the texture . There is no texture drop down in my materials options

Assuming you mean in Blender. You need to assign your textures to your materials inside of the Shading Workspace. I would search for a video about that, something like "blender shading workspace texture assignment" anything along that line.

Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial! I have a question regarding decimation: Should I decimate before or after I finish baking the textures?

I'm very happy this tutorial helped you! Regarding decimation. Do Not Decimate! Decimation will completely break your model's topology. I suggest trying to dissolve every other edge loop on areas of high density. Whatever you do, DO NOT DECIMATE!

Unfortunately, after I bake my Atlas all that it gives me is a black texture and that's where I'm halted.

Make sure that when baking you're in object mode

A possible fix for this is to tick "Clear Image" in the "Output" dropdown in the baking section. Apologies for the late reply.

This is like a year late, but i was able to fix this by changing the bake type to "Emit" rather than diffuse, which will likely fix your problem if your model is from vroid

@narwalpower2564 generally on. All clear image does is delete the old data from the baked image pre-save, so you can re-bake onto the same "file".

Yea after baking everything is just black. I tried switching to emit and ticking clear image but nothing. Please help

What type of textures are you trying to bake? How are your shaders set up? This tutorial only goes over baking diffuse textures, you will need to change things up if you are using other textures such as emission and so forth. Having trouble with texture baking. I copied the texture node into every material slot and have them selected (white outline), but when i press on bake it says "No valid selected objects" ...?

Make sure you're selecting your model before you press bake. If that doesn't change anything, feel free to join my discord and ping me on there, easier to diagnose.

what if the uv are attached and are stretching

Your model probably needs seams and to be unwrapped. Its a bit of a process, but easy enough to do with time. You can find many great tutorials on youtube, "uv unwrapping".

my atlas has the black background instead of transparent after baking-- alpha and clear image was checked before baking. textures are there and might work but transparent is preferable right

Mine has transparent background but all the bakes are pitch black lol.

That's due to your UV Island size. I go over this here: 13:02
