Vrmac Ridge: An Offroad ride! // RECUMBENT TRIKE vlog | Kotor, Montenegro | Steintrikes Wild One

In this recumbent trike vlog, we take you for an offroad ride along the Vrmac Ridge above the Kotor Bay in Montenegro. We ride our Steintrikes Wild One trikes, which are luckily fully suspended so we could handle this terrain!
Previously we thought that this is just a hiking path, but this year in the Tourist office in Tivat we got a map that showed this trail as a bike trail, so we decided to try it out for the first time! Oh, and were we surprised!
Tough ride, but also some nice views from the top - is it worth it?

I am more successful climbing steep hills on a recumbent trike because you can pause during the climb and not worry about your balance. The limitation has been getting enough traction on some sections of rocky or sandy terrain. I had mild all-terrain tires. I'm planning on changing to more aggressive off-road tires for some future rides. My tip: When I must walk the trike due to a lack of traction, I pull my trike with the back wheel in front (like a chariot). Thank you for sharing the beautiful scenery. Thank you so much for the comment and for the suggestion about walking the trike! We are still looking for the best possibility, and we also hope that we don't have to walk the trike - riding is so much easier. It is true that there are some limitations on rocky and sandy terrain. I think it is because there is not enough weight on the rear wheel (compared to a regular upright bike), so there is not enough traction sometimes... But better tires, off-road type would surely help. However, we usually ride on asphalt, so we also have tires that are more adapted to that.

Whaaw what a ride. Congratulations on proceeding till the end. I know Steintrikes are made for off-road, but this seems to be off-road from a different class. I am glad I could join the ride in a virtual way this time. Definitely not for me anymore. You must have slept very good after such an adventure. Thanks again for making a nice video of your trip. Hahaha, indeed "off-road from a different class". We were obviously expecting some off-road terrain, but not that much! It was still very fun, and also very beautiful. And there is also a sense of achievement after finishing such a ride 😊✨

Thank you so much! Yes, Steintrikes have very robust frames, and also an excellent suspension system, so they qualify even for terrains like this! Even if we still prefer a bit flatter terrains for our rides 😂

Great climbing guys. Loose gravel does make it more tricky to maintain grip on the steeper climbs. Looks like a great place to ride though. 👍👍🧗‍♂️🧗‍♂️

Thank you! Yes, on loose gravel, uphill, sometimes the rear wheel is slipping. Probably because there is not enough weight on the rear (compared to an upright bike). 🤔

Riding uphill on a trike always feels weird. It takes forever in the lowest gear you have, but at the same time you can still enjoy what's going on around you.

That's so true! But on the other hand, if you are not a good climber (like me), you can just take your time and go as slowly as you want!

No, none. It seems that the puncture-proof tires that we have are doing their job 👍

Well done on climbing that rough road, did you ever need a lower gear, or was traction the main challenge whilst climbing on those loose rocks? Thanks for the video, I'm looking to do similar rides here in New Zealand, your videos are helping me understand what recumbent trike specs I should try to get.

I noticed that only on the red trike you have 3 sprockets in the front. The green one has only one mid size sprocket. Is there any reason? (I'm impressed that you made it up this mountain with such a quite fast gear ratio.) :)
