I've never heard any other teacher talk about how to mix the resonance of the voice. I'd only heard the terms that you mentioned about sending the voice forward or back ...up into the head or down into the chest

Sometimes you serve to reinforce or substantiate what I was always looking to others for......straight up knowledge and answers. I'm very grateful. I have that skill now, the skill of color and timbre adjusting and it has helped me immensely. I can get, for example, a bright Peter Noone color, or switch into a Gary Puckett darker, sound. (The Gary Puckett is definitely more demanding.) Now if I can just get more gigs.....really tough these days.

The larynx may float a bit higher as you ascend but it should never jump. See my playlist on the Larynx.

Do I understand this? Directing the sound to different resonant cavities is the act of moving the larynx and soft palate?
@Victoria-Victorious2 ай бұрын
No, we don't "direct the sound" or "place it" somewhere, even though it might feel like we are. Those are sympathetic vibrations as a result of what is happening inside the pharynx. Moving the larynx and soft palate are 2 of many ways that we can adjust the shape of the vocal tract, which then changes the sound. I have a lot of other videos on this in my playlist on Resonance.
@flmason2 ай бұрын
@@Victoria-Victorious Now I'm confused... if resonances occur in different cavities of the vocal tract and sinuses... what are the mechanics of using one cavity or another? Isn't making use of one cavity or another, the act of getting the sound to resonate in the cavity of choice?
@Victoria-Victorious2 ай бұрын
Resonance is fascinating and to be fair, your questions are too complex to be fully answered in 1 sentence. See my playlist on Resonance. If you are more interested in the science behind it, you can find a lot more info by googling it.

I can't get the different resonances without pushing the back of my tongue down or raising the larynx too high. Practice with "aw" and "eih"?
@Victoria-Victorious2 жыл бұрын
Ah, if this is happening, I would just focus on your best vowel (AH?) and the moving smoothly and freely to the other vowels. Don't worry about this lesson yet.

I've started to ring when I sing high notes. I'm not sure if this is a good thing it gets annoying.

I sing best when totally congested. I can feel the resonance and follow it! But cold goes away so does the resonance. Have to fight for it crap😊
@Victoria-Victorious8 ай бұрын
Maybe you could try singing while plugging your nose (closing your nostrils) to simulate a cole? That helps some singers open up more in the back of the throat.

Does physical activity have a positive effect on breathing? Does it help with the correct breathing technique? Should singers do something physical activities to sing well?
@Victoria-Victorious2 жыл бұрын
Physical activity is good for your general health and fitness. The more aware you are of your body in singing, the better you will be. Some singers find that yoga and other deep breathing exercises help.

You asked what I have been wondering. I notice when I do my weigjt training days followed by recording or rehearsals it vastly differs from when I'm not doing my lifting. .....I notice a more open free sound...I think it does help with breathing possibly? I got excited and didn't read all responses. Thanks!!
