I agree! I’m absolutely blown away by Ben’s talent! I’m a grandmother these days, and when I was a teenager and in my early 20s, I was a tomboy, working on my own car, and even still riding BMX. Nothing of the level of Ben’s talent.! That is very rare these days! Most people, his age rather be playing games on their phone.

Push yourself to fix it 100%. Your talent will take you far on this. Also try something new, like rebuilding that engine. I find rebuilding engines myself brings me joy, more so than, painting a car.

I agree with Davidbell4626 Ben, I think making the C7 vette a long-term restoration would be very interesting. That way you and Jake can show just how these C7 are put together and what it takes to completely bring one back from the dead bed, and maybe a little customization. But I have owned a number of these cars, and if you want the most on resale, it needs to be as close to stock as possible, I know it sounds stupid, but when someone is looking at a Corvette, they like to plan how they would customize it to their own standards. But I watch the whole 'Mclaren build from crashed to finished and if anyone car pull off a restoration like this. . . It's you !

If I can remember right for a older vid he said hes going to get his brother to paint it when they can fit it in then after that he will probably be motivated to get back to work on it, doing custom work by yourself can burn you out fast glad he has an extra hand now

weld that hinge back together. put them together and then make some grinds going long way and fill it in to make it stronger or maybe plate it and weld the plates to it.

Airport Truck and Auto Parts in Salem Oregon, has a lot of Corvette parts. I have purchased doors, rocker panels, engine accessories, interior components, glass, fenders and other Corvette components from them. Give them a call... Shipping is not that big a deal these days with U-Ship and others, private hot shot brokers.

7:50 TBH if you made some close out/finish panels for the front and rear of the door opening, that car looks pretty cool with out the door on! Imagine it being finished in white, and the lower panel follows the large carbon tub of the inside....

I once drove a C8 that had the camera vision rear view mirror, which is definitely the way to go. It offers a clear, unobstructed complete rear view.

Look at the main caps on that C7 engine. The numbers that are etched on them don't come like that from the factory. People/shops mark them like that so they go back in the same spots when doing a rebuild. Also, I LOVE the sounds of the exhaust on that C8. It's about as loud as the McLaren but it's a deeper sounds so it doesn't seem as loud as the higher pitched exhaust notes from the McLaren.

My friend owns a Corvette wrecking business in Streator, IL. Vette2Vette. He says most of the insurance wrecks he buys are damaged in the front. Rear ended Vettes are not easy to find. Good luck brother!

Set up a dial indicator to check the crank snout runout. Don't use it if it is bent.

take off all piston rod bolts at cranshaft and bearing blocks, then can rotate crank and dial indicator looking how much has bend, then take out, go to metal workshop, put straight and honing bear points lot cheapen than new parts. many connection rod and crangsaft has straigtened and welding back to working, then engine block need only move metalworkshop and check bearing points have good and crakked engine block pieces can welding and grinding, not big job and lot cheapen than new block. and work again than new many many year.

The new exhaust sounds great but unfortunately the round tips look out of place on the angular rear end of the C8 - my tip; keep the original ends so you don’t have that “round peg in a square hole” appearance 👍

Just a tip, the tips aren't the same on both side. Left is out to the edge of the bumper and the right are 1" back from bumper lip. I noticed you making sure the clamps were to the back so I figured I'd give you a heads up before some old men call you out.

Hey take both pieces of the hinge and superglue them together and take it to a machine shop with a six axis machine and have one made out of billet aluminum for about $600

You know from the fracture on the McClaren what the potential could be for a stress fracture or two in that motor..... Normally one would have the engine thoroughly crack tested especially with its performance. Also the run out on the crank needs checking with dial gauges as if thats had a whack, it could well be out of true....
