I love my rescues but I see the value of keeping these breeds. What I do not agree with are "designer" dogs...cockapoo, etc. They do not help the breeds, nor the rescues, IMHO
@findsilenceinnoise

Couldn't agree more. I always have rescues but value real and historic breeds. I had a rescue Old English Sheepdog and she was a wonderful dog, devoted, joyful and loving. Unfortunately she died suddenly aged 3. I can't stand all the designer poodle cross types and find them very annoying. Get so upset people are breeding things like 'sheepadoodles' when they could just have a real OES. Absolutely no need for designer dogs and a lot of them have issues like resource guarding anyway then get given up to rescues adding to the rescue problem. :(

Since there are so few of these breeds left, maybe breeders need to advertise more, or price the dogs a little cheaper so more people could own them? I know the risks of that but if not that, what are the breeders doing to continue the lines?
@rachelwilbur9512
@rachelwilbur9512 2 жыл бұрын
It’s not the price of the dogs that is the issue. For profit “doodle” breeders often price their dogs at double or triple the cost of a responsibly bred dog from a reputable breeder. I think lack of awareness of these breeds combined with a strong “adopt don’t shop” culture has pushed many of these breeds to scarcity. The breeders are extremely dedicated to preserving their breeds but with aging breeders and less new people getting into the breed they are probably looking for others interested in breed preservation who would consider getting involved in breeding and helping preserve the breed themselves or at least having their pets be great breed ambassadors to the public.
@jaegerthedane3245
@jaegerthedane3245 2 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind that ethical breeders don't make a profit off the puppies they sell, in fact, they rarely break even. And they won't advertise more because they will only sell to people knowledgeable about the breed.

I've owned a Gordon Setter and they are lovely dogs. They have an easy-going temperament and they are pretty calm in the house, as long as they get some exercise. Many people are intimidated by the long coat, but as a field dog you don't need to keep the coat that long.

One reason why some breeds are vulnerable is because many of their breeders have such arrogance as they are only good enough to own one . Why do I say this , because years ago I wanted a Dandie Dinmont and it was absolutely ridiculous what the breeders demanded .

Totally agree... I have tried to acquire a Smooth Collie from a quality show breeder to import into Mexico since the breed is non existent here (even rough collies are extremely rare) to basically be my pet (I own two rough collies and one is almost 12 y/o so I do have experience with the breed). Breeders either never reply or say they have reserved puppies for the next 20 years... So in the end what most people do (not me) is end up buying from someone else (meaning a non reputable breeder)...

I have a question. When holding the leash, should it be tight? Are you not allowed to have a loose leash? Also, I love mastiffs, and leonbergers. They are my favourite breeds. I have a 9 months old mastiff German Shepard mix. She is very well trained (thanks to me). She is an amazing dog, she guards the family, and is very lovable. She is a lazy goofball. When she’s playing with other dogs, she’ll walk up to me and sit next to me when she’s tired and wants to go home.

Some handlers keep a tight lead to keep the dog's head up & the dog under control. Personally, I always showed my own dogs on a loose lead. They loved showing & all of the attention. So, yes, it is absolutely allowed to have a loose lead. 👍

The King Charles Spaniel is just as vulnerable here in Australia as they are in the UK. Between 2010 and 2020 there were only 304 'Charlies' registered in the whole of Australia. In comparison there were 27,969 Cavaliers registered. So there is absolutely no way you have 200 Charlies on your books at a salon in Melbourne. Many many pet owners mistakenly call Cavaliers a King Charles Cavalier, perhaps like them you are getting your breed name confused.
