This week, we do the 60k mile spark plug service on our 2015 VW Passat with the EA888 Gen 3 1.8T engine. Pretty easy service, but be careful of brittle plastics!

The first plug you pull out on video is #1 cylinder??? I doubt it, could be wrong, but #1 cylinder is by timing cover

The timing cover is on the left side of the engine, if I remember correctly. Thanks for watching!

My 2018 Golf says 40k in the manual. Direct injected, turbo cars are hard on plugs, especially platinums.

I've heard of variations as well - some shorter intervals, some longer (like my direct injected turbo V8 in my Mercedes being 80k miles). Thanks for watching!

Preferably iridium plugs work best

Did you notice any improved performance after putting in the new plugs? I am just about to go mine on my 2018 Passat R-Line at 40,000 miles.

Would these be the same plugs for a 2019 golf sportwagen?

I believe they would be - best to cross reference OEM PNs though, or plug your vehicle details into the NGK/Bosch/etc website. Thanks for watching!

The problem for me with getting those wire nuts off is the fact all 4 bolts are stripped in the valve cover so the nuts stay stuck and just spin.

Sounds like VW quality and potentially some questionable previous work. This one just suffered from a cracked fuel pump. Thanks for watching!

I doubt that car needed plugs😂

They weren't smoked, but weren't the greatest either. Just servicing per the interval...GDI cars are hard on plugs so a little extra maintenance doesn't hurt. Thanks for watching!

...talk about exemplified IDIOCY: This (white or Caucasian male) individual should know better than to post a video on you tube (or anywhere else for that matter) knowing that he already had difficulty removing anything including the fasteners on the coil covers for the plugs themselves. It would seem to me that when an individual is electing to post a DIY video on you tube for "novice" mechanic individuals attempting for the first time to simply replace the spark plugs that he should do a "dry run" FIRST before actually posting a video for other DIY'ers to do. WOW! REALLY?

Sorry you didn't find the video useful, mine are geared towards folks with some level of mechanical understanding a notch above novice though. Many folks find them helpful. Thanks for watching!
