Great video. I like your straight-to-the point approach without the often found pontification about the wisdom and virtue of plug and coil maintenance. I changed plugs and coils today. Your right, the coil bolts can easily cross thread. I felt one trying to, so I used a different one in it's place. Over the decades I've learned that once the threads start cross thread, they'll keep trying. Using one of the other bolts no will often remedy this, but ya gotta be real careful with both the offending screw hole and bolt or you could strip both, which causes a lot of heartache, money to fix and foul language. I immediately noticed a difference in performance - smoother idle, better pick up. ONE HEADS UP... when you button every thing up and start the cart, you're dash may light up like a Christmas tree. It happens every time I reconnect my battery. Drive the car a few miles and every thing should reset and lights will disapper. If you're low tire pressure light stays on, park the car for 45-60 minutes to let the tires cool off. Locate your tire pressure reset button - my car is a 2016 VW Jetta, so it's inside my glove box, yours may be somewhere else. Press and hold the button for a few seconds til the light goes out. Your owner's manual or Google can help, too.

I have a 2017 TSI SE Passat. Coming from a woman, THIS really helped me out. I took my car to the VW dealership with my engine shaking & they charged me $330 for a diagnostic test & changed out my filter. They didn't mention anything about a tune up. I was told I needed a New secondary Air Flow injection sensor/hose. That plus labor will cost me $840. I've never had my spark plugs changed out. This video makes me confident that even I can do this. TY... Wish you were in my home town Sir 🙏🏾😂🥰

I really appreciate the compliment. Happy to know I could help. It’s not difficult as long as you take your time. The dealership is so expensive. I’m not a mechanic but I try to do as much as possible myself. Sometimes those air flow sensors will cause vibrations. But around 60k you should change the spark plugs. Thanks again and I’m glad I could help 😎💯

Great video. Helped me a ton. Some helpful things I picked up from other videos for those running into trouble: Let your car run for a bit before you get to work. Makes it easier to pull out the ignition coils. For the electrical connectors or whatever they’re called, you can also use a 90° pick tool (watch the FCP Euro vid on changing ignition coils + spark plugs) and slide it under the plastic lip and it’ll lift plastic and it’ll all slide right off. I used the flathead for two coils and the pick for the other two tighter ones.

Hey sir thanks a lot, used this video to help me complete my repair 👍. Just of note, I think with these vehicles you should change the ignition coil along with the spark plugs. Mine were extremely hard to pull and I ended up pulling the top off, so I went ahead and got a ride to auto zone and bought a 4 pack. For anyone having the issue with stuck ignition coils, I’d recommend pulling the top off and blowing compressed air into that rubber stem and they will eventually pop out. They might have been harder for me to remove because I did this job at 81,500 miles.

Yea at 80 k they are probably pretty stuck. I think 50-60 is the magic number. I’m so happy you were able to figure it out. That’s where the dielectric grease comes in. They will always remove easily. But at least you got it done. Thanks again for watching I appreciate it much. 👍🏼😎💯

@@grind-it-out My car then misfiring here in there. To the point that my engine light turns on and off. I also just subscribed to your channel on
@grind-it-out
@grind-it-out Жыл бұрын
Thanks for subscribing. I appreciate it. It could be your coil packs. I always do plugs and coils first then if that doesn’t fix the problem it’s possibly a bigger issue. Plugs and coils are normal maintenance anyway so I’d do that even if it doesn’t fix the issue. Gotta start with basics then narrow down the problem. Find out what cylinder is misfire then swap the coil with another coil and see if the misfire changes to the other cylinder. If that the misfire changes cylinder then you know it’s coils.

And I ran them at 0.040 for over 15k miles on the stage 1 tune 😂 it feels so much better in my opinion. I feel like it has a bit more power now but it’s only been about 5 hours haha… I did them today and tbh I think they were the original ones and I genuinely believe that this was the first time they have ever been changed. Just a heads up about the coils…they don’t need to be put back in the same order that you take them out. A coil is a coil…unlike the old distributor cap/wire combo which required the wires to be put back exactly how the came off….also just a tip…if you ever have a an issue with a cylinder misfire, you can diagnose it by moving the coil of the misfiring cylinder to a different cylinder…if the misfire then moves to that other cylinder you now know that you need a new coil. If it doesn’t change then you know it could be the spark plug or a different issue…great video…keep up the great work.😊

You can do it. As far as the coil. Switch it with another. If you get a bad cylinder reading it should change to the one that’s got the bad coil. If the second coil is bad, switch it with the first one. That will verify it’s a bad coil. If nothing happens then it’s a cylinder issue or bad plug.

The coil packs are notorious for failure. They are not very expensive. VW/Audi has upgraded these over the past few years. Latest ones are from Japan. Consider replacing them if you have gotten 70k miles or 5 years usage. It's good insurance and you'll still have your old ones, if in a pinch.

I could’ve taken more time out to show how to use that but there are thousands of videos on that it’s very very simple you just slide it across the gap in the spark plug and if it lands on the correct number then the gap is correct. Maybe I’ll do a video on that someday but for now just search for gap gauge and how to use its the simple as part of the whole process I appreciate you coming and if you would like to help the channel out if you would subscribe that would be awesome thank you so much let me know how it goes

All I know is use your hand to tighten it at the end of the extension. Then once it gets threaded on finish tightening with the ratchet. Not sure what the issue is. Just guide it in. It should nicely fall into its place. Not understanding why this is happening

Yea sorry about that. It’s super easy. There are tons on videos about that. But simply put the spark plug on the tool and run it along the gap tool until it stops. The reading on the tool will tell you the gap. Most NGK plugs come pre gapped anyway. But it’s always good to check. Let me know if I can offer any help. Thanks

Despite the really helpful and well done video, this project appears to be a bust for me. The coils seem to be so badly fused that I wasn't able to remove a single one. I thought I finally succeeded in removing one, only to quickly discover that the top of the coil separated from the rest of the rubber boot seated in the spark plug well. I spent another couple of minutes trying to remove the rubber boot, but had to give up and put everything back together. There is no indication (yet) that I've done any harm, but now I'm going to have to let the professionals do it and hope my assessment is correct.

No no no. Just get new coil packs. Pull the old ones out even if they seperate. If they separate just make sure you get it all out. Replace with new ones. Good ones are only around $160 for the set. A shop May charge a lot. Let me know. It’s not difficult at all. 😎💯

Use pliers or whatever to pull remaining part of coil out. That’s why I’m the video I stress putting dielectric grease on the coils so they don’t get stuck. But pull them out. No damage should happen. It’s just a metal tube down to the spark plug. Seriously save yourself money and just get them out even if in pieces. 💯

I wasn't able to get back to it again until today, but success! Once I got the coil packs out, it went smoothly from there. Each plug was pretty corroded and each one felt as though it was covered in glue when I finally got them out. I suspect the plugs were put in with silicone grease vs dielectric grease. Whatever it was, it had solidified and created a bond to each of the plug caps.
@grind-it-out
@grind-it-out 10 ай бұрын
Nice to hear. Silicone grease and dielectric are pretty much the same. But none was ever applied I think. Most people don’t apply it. But yea. If you keep at it they will eventually come out. Coil packs are such an easy thing. I could never imagine paying for it. Good job!
