@2:10 that temperature sensor will be doing nothing in that location, it will have no relationship with oil temp it will only measure the vapor temp at the top of the crank case.
@V8N8T2 жыл бұрын
You are correct it won't show oil temperature, it's more of a block temperature sensor at this point. There are far better locations but this is how the kit came which is what I was trying to demonstrate. Good eye though!
@noelwhittle79222 жыл бұрын
@@V8N8T yes, there's no simple solution to measure oil temp in a type 1. Easiest way to accurately measure oil temp is with a dipstick sensor such as the VDO sensor. Otherwise you need to do some intrusive mod to the case or if you have a full flow external oil filter you can install a short sensor into the flow line close to the case/pump exit, but the sensor tip must be reaching into the oil flow and while still not impeding flow.
@V8N8T2 жыл бұрын
@@noelwhittle7922 for my actual oil temp gauge I removed the plug in the case that is where the oil pickup was drilled and made a fitting for the temp sensor. It picks up the temp of the oil right before it hits the pump. It is slightly faster responding than the sensor at the top of the block but overall temps are pretty close
@noelwhittle79222 жыл бұрын
@@V8N8T so you are getting the best possible temp reading and it turns out that the top of the case is close, but slightly lagging. Interesting. That would suggest the fuel pump block off plate location is not a bad compromise after all.

@@noelwhittle7922 Mario @thedubshop sells a gm type sensor that is secured by one of the cylinder head tin screws by the intake that would probably be even better than the oil temp(im sure it is more responsive with the heat from the head)

@V8N8T4 жыл бұрын
Its a 2 barrel throttle body efi:) I've been wanting to switch over to efi for a while and even though it's not the most ideal efi like port injection I think all around drive ability will be more spot on than carbs. I have also not seen any install videos of installing a fitech on a bug yet(or a lowbugget kit for that matter) so figured I'd get my feet wet on doing a how to video:) the 009 has a pertronix kit in it and the crank fired ignition will definitely be better than a distributor but I wanted to illustrate how it works with what most people have to work with as far as ignition goes. Thanks for watching and the comments:)

Could you explain more about the intake manifold? Did you bore out the center of it? And where did you purchase it?
@V8N8T3 жыл бұрын
Of course, the intake manifold is for a progressive carb with a adapter plate to go from the progressive manifold to a holley 2300 2 barrel. The intake itself says bugpack on it but it looks just like the empi ones being sold. The center was opened up to match the adapter by Aj Sims from lowbugget who built the kit. I actually got this off thesamba it was used and traded a few carbs, a set of hub caps and 200 bucks for it. If you are wanting to buy a kit like this you can contact Aj at Lowbugget or lookup Mario at the dubshop for the ultimate in efi

@@V8N8T I'm actually in the works to put the Holley sniper on. I was on the fence about buying a custom manifold from RAD, or use an adaptor. I kept reading a lot on the fuel puddling, but figured the atomization from the EFI would eliminate that. I am putting this on a stock 1600 dp. Stock cam, stock heads, and looking for mostly dependability and ease of function. My wife's daily. Tired of fighting the cheap 34pict flat spots and choke issues.
@V8N8T3 жыл бұрын
@@chadhebert1776 awesome! It's definitely alot cheaper to build yourself. There's a guy on Instagram named Jamie Wiseman who has put a 2bbl sniper on with great success. I would change a few things on mine from the lowbugget Design but I wanted to showcase how everything went together and ran as it would be in kit form. The main problem I am having at the moment is the manifold icing but I think that is due to the decklid being off and 30-45 degree temps. I'm working on a few things to close up the engine bay to hold in some heat. Also you can get a temp sensor from Mario at the dubshop that is calibrated to the gm style that bolts down on one of the cylinder head tin screws or you could put your sensor in the air path coming off of the cylinders

I am really interested in this kit, but got a little gun shy after reading the reviews of AJ and Low Bugget on The Samba. What was your experience with the company, and their customer service? More importantly, how has the efi kit worked out for you compared to the dual webers?
@V8N8T2 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris. I didn't buy the kit from him, I got it second hand from a guy on the samba that bought it from Aj and couldn't get it running. I haven't had to call him for help on the setup but I have had to contact fitech a couple times with issues on the fitech itself(explained in my review video) I'd honestly say overall the webers were better but I have my whole life involved with carburetors and this has been my first go with aftermarket efi. It has some pro's and con's for sure but I'm not giving up on it yet. I want to open up the software and fine tune the "cam" tables to refine the fuel map. I drove it for a while not messing with it and it was doing its thing taking away and adding fuel but the maps are so far off it takes alot of driving to get it halfway close. Fine tuning the map will bring the learn values down to a more acceptable amount and should eliminate most of the super rich to lean conditions. From what I have seen the holley snipers have a much bigger table to modify which would mean much more defined fueling. If I could make any suggestions on going efi I would say look up @thedubshop he does top notch work and it is true multiport fuel injection vs throttle body injection. If you are looking into tbi you can also look into rad he makes his own intakes and vw holley sniper kits as well as other carbs. The tbi design and fitech itself has its pros and cons just like carbs do it all comes down to what you want to do with your time and what you want to do with your vw. Hope that helps

@@V8N8T thank you so much for your info. Yeah, Mario at The Dub Shop is clearly the best, but he prices his kits like they are solid gold, encrusted in diamonds. I was hoping the FiTech would be an affordable option to get into efi? Thank you again
@V8N8T2 жыл бұрын
If your willing to put in some work, fabricate a few parts and adjust a few parameters you can build a setup similar to mine for a lot cheaper than Aj sells them for. A progressive intake(open plenum not 2 hole), fitech/ sniper, weber to ford 2300 2bbl adapter, -6 ptfe or rubber efi rated line, and you pretty much have the kit Aj sells. He changes some of the warm up parameters and a few other items and extends the wires for the handheld. So far I have the kit on my bug I found on thesamba and a 2nd lowbugget kit with timing control I bought off ebay so if you keep your eyes peeled you can find a second hand "kit" at a fraction of the price:) Fyi-One major problem I have seen when people go to efi and have problems is a charging system that is not up to the task of keeping up with all the added load on the system so keep that in mind for future upgrades

So seeing how you have had some seat time with this efi would you recommend it ?
@V8N8T2 жыл бұрын
Hi Shawn, at the moment I'm hesitant to say yes or no at the moment, it has given me a few problems that I have luckily been able to figure out and only had to tow my car home once. I think the biggest issue has been the fuel pump and it's fuel delivery which I will be going over in the next few videos I put out. I don't think it's a good just bolt on and it figures everything out for you setup(the only thing that will be that close is thedubshop efi) warm up enrichment will need to be tuned to your location and engine as well as a fuel table in my honest opinion.
