Also his car has no heat pump, which would be beneficial at this temps for heating the cabin. With heat pump, you can probably get a bit more range when running air conditioning. It is available on most ID.3 models as option, and standard in some higher end models. On some 1st ones, it is not available, or depending on a day, it is an option or not ;D LOL

Wow Chris, best speed if 102mph, sadly not many options in the USA for trying that out. Not much worry on charger distance, you just drop the speed in last 1/3 or 1/4 of the trip if it's not looking good for at least 5%. Thanks as always for the thorough test.

Interesting that the good aerodynamics of the ID-3 also give good stability at maximum speed. The same was also true of the first VW Golf GTi that came to England in early 1979 at 116 mph/190 kph. Good comfortability, JA ! 😀

It is so counterintuitive (but real), that going 160km/h in ID.3 (and some other cars) is actually the best option for long distance traveling if you have access to 100kW DC charging. :) BTW. If you have only access to 50kW DC charging, then I would say 115km/h target on highway is the best option. Based on my calculations.

@NeilBlanchard
@NeilBlanchard 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris - thanks for trying in D! How much elevation change is there on your regular route? I think the cruise control doesn't let you gain speed downhill, does it? Also, was it cooler air temperature on this than with other RACOBE tests? Coasting is *road candy*! Traveling for "free" - is losing less energy than regen; because regen can't regain more than about 50% at best; and coasting uses more of the stored kinetic energy that regen does.

As said in other KZbin cannels: The cw-value of ID.3 is better than the Kona, but the korean car is much more efficent on highway. The only reason for this is the drive train. There is much more potential on ID.3 if the motor becomes more efficent

@@BatteryLife If we look at 14:42 the calculated battery capacity is only 48.4 kWh which does not seem right, because when driving faster later it "rises" again, so this calculation might not show the facts. Teslabjoern had some 56 kW usable capacity in his test, so 48.4 kWh sounds way off and I feel any range calculation based on these numbers show the ID.3 in an undeserved bad light.
@BatteryLife
@BatteryLife 3 жыл бұрын
With a drive of only 71km this test can never be absolutely accurate. But the car startet with 50%, drove 71km and arrived with 18%. So 32% for 71km = 100% for 222km. Battery capacity is avg consumption multiplied the range with 100%. 222km times 218 Wh/km = 48,4 kWh. The biggest error is not knowing the exact SOC (18%) after the drive. Was it 18,9% or 18,1%. That makes a big difference.
@abraxastulammo9940
@abraxastulammo9940 3 жыл бұрын
@@BatteryLife So you believe 48.4 kWh is actually correct und your battery has degraded severly after a few high speed loads with Ionity, so the range has now dropped from 287 km to only 222 km with 5 % more consumption as indicated due to lower temperature? 😱 I guess this kind of imprecise calculation made nextmove claim 649 km country roads range for Kona...
@BatteryLife
@BatteryLife 3 жыл бұрын
No, this is a calculated summary that cannot be too accurate. My full range test in summer is way better. 280km with 3% left at 122 kmh avg speed 202 Wh/km avg consumption. 57,974 kWh calculated.
