@@spuddy4063 Teslas are loud - a lot of competition is better here, not particularly comfortable & the suspension in TM3 - granted it is sort of a sports car - never seems to settle on rougher surfaces, handling is better with say Taycan, efficiency with Koreans, space & practicality - with MEB cars, charging with E-Tron & new Koreans. Not saying they are bad cars - au contraire - but this preconceived notion that they are the best thing since slice of bread is quite baffling. TLDR - different strokes for different folks

I think once the Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 are released, they will struggle to sell these as they're in a very similar price range. The range on this and ID3 are atrocious for people who only have like a 3-5 mile commute to work each day. The reason for this is that every time you drive it, the battery heater kicks and heats the battery (using something like 5-6kw) and this hammers the efficiency.

However, if it were phrased would you have this or the 'less roomy and poorer ride' Skoda, would the answer still be the same? I love the channel BTW just thought I'd make an observation. And as you are openly against these cars it does show but its aimed at families who want the room and arent bothered by the speed or the badge (Tesla). Suv gives better view of road signs, landscapes, over hills/hedges etc. And more height also gives better rear-seat headroom and/or thigh support (because of more calfroom). And trunk can hold more. Not everyone needs use road as some sort of race track no matter what car journalists say
@mondotv4216
@mondotv4216 3 жыл бұрын
@@DeeSock Sorry - how does it give better view of road signs? I drive an SUV and the problem is so does just about evryone else. So at traffic lights etc visibility left and right is still compromised. And I never had a problem seeing road signs in a sedan? Unless I’m missing your point. Not too many hedges in Australia to worry about but I can imagine in the UK it might definitely be an advantage.
@DeeSock
@DeeSock 3 жыл бұрын
@@mondotv4216 as more people get higher-up and wider cars then the visibility advantage for seeing over and around other cars is reduced but the disadvantage for lower cars increases if everyone else is like a truck by comparison (cannot see through other car's glass as much because not at eye level for example) For road signs, I mean the higher up you are, then the more you are eye level with traffic signs. For example green traffic light signals are usually over 2 meters off ground so the higher you are then the less you need to crane neck and peer upwards looking for the green light especially if you are first in the queue or have sunblind down or there is no traffic light on opposite side of the junction such as for a left turn light. More walls, bridges, humps, hills, hedgerows etc in Uk than Australia I guess so that advantage might be region specific

@@ElectricVehicleMan that is a fair point given your market. Here in the U.S. a fully-loaded ID.4 Pro S RWD is within a couple hundred dollars of a loaded Kona Ultimate. And you can tow with the ID.4, it’s roomier, quieter, charges faster (level 3) and rides a bit better. To be fair it is slower in a straight line, but you also get 3 years of level 3 fast charging and 2 years of maintenance included (the latter of which doesn’t account for much in an EV, but is a nice perk). The comparison with a model Y is absolutely pointless, it is not a car that can be purchased in the UK. I also think Model Y will be £10k more than an ID.4 or Enyaq. On the Enyaq front, to get similar levels of kit you need to hit the options quite hard which takes the price above that of the equivalent ID.4. Hand up, I have an ID.4 and like it. Chose it over waiting for the Enyaq as it is a better deal at this time. My efficiency is 3.2 mi/kWh over 1500 miles so far of mixed driving and I live in a hilly part of Wales. So I think it's a good car, but the tech is lagging behind a bit.

From what I've so far read, the Skoda Enyaq has the edge over the ID4. Both cars use basically the same running gear etc, although Skoda has the nicer interior and more design flair..... The Skoda is also a little less costly. Skoda now needs to expand their EV range, and produce *it's* version of the ID3.... Re: Tesla. Enjoyed your video. Why all this criticism of SUV’s. So many reviewers criticise them compared to saloons, the reality is the masses buy them (Check sales figures). The reason people want them is they are so practical for everyday use. The large tailgate opening allows everything from IKEA, washing machines, dogs push bikes you name it. The higher riding allows easy access etc.I have no problem with saloon cars or sports cars, however unless you can afford both, the SUV covers it all. I think you need to get over it and smell the coffee.

Tell me what the X5 has over the 5 Series Tourer? Getting in and out easier is for older people with mobility issues so isn’t really a factor to the general public. They’re Sports Utility Vehicles that are almost all 2WD, and not sporty or any more practical than the car they’re based on. Less efficient, more expensive to buy and run, uglier, heavier, worse at handling. Need I go on!

SUVs became big as people liked the height to see forward and they were usually bulkier so gave them the illusion they were safer. So Women with families took them up in great numbers. The taller thing may have worn off a little as there are so many on the road now. The only reason they are safe is ESC, ESP,ESB (Whatever 3 letter sh*t I can come up with). All those things help to keep even low par drivers on the road. But sedans with lower centre of gravity and a good wheelbase are inherently safer. All cars since the 90's have had to raise their door heights (eg: Honda Odyssey ) to stop SUVs coming into the passenger area.

Was waiting for you to review the id4, needless to say not quite the review I was expecting. Here in British Columbia, Canada the base model rwd starts at $44,995 qualifying for our $8000 in government rebates. So $36,995. The Tesla model Y starts at $69,900 and does not qualify for the rebate. So as you use to say before you bought your model 3 “ I can’t afford that” , I can’t buy what I can’t afford. So on it’s own merits, most reviews have said exactly what you said. It does everything well. But do the model Y or the skoda do EVERYTHING perfectly in every category, to make them better buys? So I eagerly await delivery to Canada in August/September so I can test drive for myself as I do have an id4 on order.

The thing I learned between the Sandy Monroe review and this review is that I should at least glance at the manual. The black and white design of the dashboard reminds me of WALL-E and I was bored so I paused to look at the different trim levels and the heat pump feature also bothered me. All the amazing stuff Sandy found during teardown has never been advertised by Tesla and it's like I'm surprised VW didn't advertise their version of the octovalve

I disagree with you on the importance of Stats for long journeys. Yes, most of my journeys are short / local. But those days don't matter - I never run out of juice, I come home and plug in. I don't care how many kWh it used ... I probably do 5,000 miles a year running about ... if the car would do 5 miles / kWh I'd be down near 1p a mile, if it does less than 3 miles / kWh maybe nearer 3p. That's 3x as much, but its the difference between 50-quid and 150-quid. A year. But on the days when I do drive a long way I get to the charger at 10%, and I charge to 80%, and I am really really interested in what that 70% range at motorway speeds is. I need that 70% distance to be a sensible amount of driving - 2 hours would be good, I will be wanting a break by then. 10%-80% needs to be done in 20 minutes. That matters for those days when I am driving out of range. Local driving - I just don't care. Efficiency and consumption for local journeys is relevant for people with no home charging, and a kWh figure is useful for that scenario.

It's not just "Teslabjörn" Nyland though, overall Scandi reviewers (Auto Motor & Sport et al) report the MEB platform cars being efficient on a near-Telsa level - even Tesla-beating in singular tests, whilst all UK reviewers, not just you, report them being kind of "thirsty". This - as somebody considering buying an EV for use in the UK - makes me understand I should expect the ID.* cars to be thirsty, but it's still weird and if it was possible it would be nice to know what the difference between the markets comes from. Is it that they get to drive a constant 70-ish mph more often in the sparsely populated Nordics - but how would that be useful to an EV? Or does that market fit more efficient tyres? Or does every other manufacturer fit less efficient tyres on that market so that the MEB cars only seem frugal by comparison? Or is it the British driving style (like you stole it) punishes inefficient EV drive trains compared to the annoyingly placid Nordic dawdle?

I have at last tried the Id4. I make no bones about my opinions, I have an MGZS EV my only complaint with it is I would prefer a longer range as I find the MG is just on its limits for my requirements range wise. After having tried the ID 4 which is a larger car than mine there is no way I could be convinced to pay over a minimum of £15K more for this car over the MG or any of the other cars in a similar range, this car has had a lot of hype but it simply does not live up to that hype. VW, you need to try harder, this is not a £42k+ car, it is that simple.

Thanks for a great honest review, I personally like an SUV due to getting in and out of also we have a dog seat that also makes it easier to place our dog in and out of, I previously owned a 3door Merc and then a BMW 1 series and was starting to bother me getting in and out of and also stupid legs hitting steering wheel whist getting out. I own an evoque and that just looks more luxurious then this on the inside and outside and thats why I haven't made the EV SUV jump yet Price and quality. These VWs look so cheap and badly thought of (owned 3 VWs in my car life) the seats look rubbish and hate the haptic feedback buttons idea. I wonder if the Mobile companies will enter the EV world, I have just seen advert for Huawei that looked good so wonder when Samsung will do one also Apple companies like these will bring lots more tech with faster systems and probably better quality

More reasons for me to wait until this EV market matures in more ways than one. Kind of takes me back to the days we were comparing VHS and BetaMax and now we have Smartphones. Well I want the smartphone of the EV world. What I mean here is that back in the bad old days a VHS was about 3 months pay and the quality was quite poor. Now you can get a decent smartphone for 1 weeks pay and quality and practicality is great. So what we need is a good quality build at least 300 miles real range and charge in less than 15mins so people who charge off site don't need to spend a day out charging and prices around 30K. Funny though China is almost there ! EV's in Europe are still a rip off.

Why do car reviewers get so excited about hard plastics in cars? What's wrong with them? Who cares whether the plastic bits in a car are squidgy or not? Especially as squidly plastics can go all sticky and horrid eventually (after a decade or two). The hard ones will still be just the same.

Looks very odd from the side, I think its the wavy window line and the odd proportions. These are prestige cars for the masses and manufacturers need to start taking more risks when designing electric cars, which is now just starting to happen really (Polestar Precept / Hyundai Ioniq 5) The ID.3 is a good looking car, but the concept was truly stunning. If only it would have gone into production like that, it probably would have been VW’s most successful vehicle ever.
