But VW now makes adverisement with net 45 KWh. That is an outstanding big buffer for a lowbudget feeling car. I never liked Nissan for the gross Numbers….its so useless!!!

Bjorn’s ‘real world’ approach, consistency, knowledge, general even handed-ness and humorous innuendo (in his third language) brings his subscribers and watchers. He does not need to beg! My only beef is that he focuses almost entirely on DC charging when most EV owners will charge overnight at home on cheap AC tariffs.

In case anyone just wants a summary, at 90km/hr (56mph) the ID3 got 316km (196mi) of range. And at 120km/hr (74mph) it got 219km (136mi) of range.

@@TesIaCH the Model 3 SR+ is almost 15000€ more expensive. You could literally buy a second car with that amount of money. And the range difference is only 100km.

so traveling 316 km going 120 km/h would take 3.05h and 69.2 kWh including the 25 additional minutes to charge to 75% SoC, and traveling 316 km at 90 km/h would take 3.5h of driving, and use 43 kWh. I think i'd probably travel at around 100-105km/h... a happy medium before wind resistance eats battery like a monster.

8:10 one thing VW messed up with the lighting (in all versions) is the slide bar below the touch screen. It really needs a backlight.

Rear view camera is not included in ID.3 Pure. At leas not the one I got here in Norway a few months ago.

The car Björn is testing has better spec than the basic Pure at 275kkr, this has LED Matrix, metallic paint and a better interior with nicer fabrics in the seats for example. In addition to the smaller battery, the Pure model also has a smaller electric motor of 110kW/150Hp instead of 150kW/204Hp. Some sites says 55kWh gross, some other says 48kWh gross including VW Norway...

The real BMS SOC would help to better understand the large top buffer in this 55kWh battery. But EVNotify shows BMS SOC only at the bottom screen.

Good review one of the affordable cars for daily commutes. Still there might be an error in the sheet- in the video you talk about less than 200wh/km at 120km/h in the sheet it’s stated 219Wh/km. Br

1920kg or 1820kg it is minimum 200kg more than the new Megane E-Tech. Please Bjiorn do a test with the lightest Megane 60kWh 22AC 130DC (the based version 40kWh 7AC only should not exist) vs the lightest ID3 in 18’ wheels. Can an induction rotor beat one day a permanent magnet rotor? That is the question. Wheels Weight and aero can help. Thank you so much Bjiorn.

I think future trend would be smaller battery, but capable of very fast charging.. as fast charging network proliferate, we would have short 10 to 15 min sessions , at regular intervals

@@bjornnyland Well…did you guessed the gross kWh…or is it in the coc papers? I asked the Kia premium customer service about the size of the ev6 battery. They answered me wrong. Even carmakers don not know what they are selling.

Why there is such a huge buffer between gross and net battery capacity? 45/55 vs 58/62 vs 77/82. VW is intentionally downgrading it, because ID.4/Enyaq with same battery pack has 52 kWh available!

It’s official. I have now watched so many of your range test videos that I think this Canadian could drive your route blindfolded. 😂. VW Canada has made a huge mistake by only offering the ID 4 here and not the ID3. The other mistake is their interest rate…4.5%. I bet Hyundai and Kia will be half that. Too soon to know about Subaru as their EV has (Soltara) not yet been released.

no just cost as the battery plays a big part in the list price, if you need to tow or carry more you will be better with a bigger battery

Also the bottom version “Life” has a cheaper fabric on the seats. They may not shaft Norwegians like they do UK ones with the way the have optioned up the RHD import specs (see also that hideous interior in the ID.4 we get).

It appears that VW is creating marketing confusion with model names and which car it relates to - read comments in many reviews. A search in UK says the ID3 55kWh Pure was discontinued in August 2021. Other people have variants of the 'same' car. Not great for review watching and trying to match to cars available.

If you haul heavy things, over 300 kg, then Model 3 is near the legal limit.

Maybe someone who needs the hatchback for dogs or something. And I would say the price difference is actually significant. If you don't need the extra range and you need the practicality of this one. I think it's a good option.

ID3 is just joke of a car, so bad in every single category! ID4 is much much better! Also, Mach-E is great as well. But my choice would be Model Y or Model 3.

Hi, Bjorn I've the Skoda citigo-eiv (aka E-up) and I've noticed that VW it's faking instrument cluster consuption (about 20% less then the real, I can prove this). I think you should not trust instrument cluster values. You should find an indipendent way to calculate the consuption eg: by charging to 100% then driving a bit and recharging at 100% and see how much charge it took on DC, otherwise in AC you have to caluclate first the OBC efficency. In my case if I try to estimate the battery capacity from the consuption result in a battery of 28-29kwh wich is not. Instead if I check via OBD and see the battery kWh counters before and after the a trip I can calculate the real consuption and estimate the correct battery size (32,2kWh) Can you test it with an e-up? (Probably also e-Golf, I don't know ID3 and MEB platform)

Stefano, you're including charging loss, which can be very different based on charging speed, temperatures etc. Bjorn doesn't do that, gues out of the reasons I've mentioned.

Bit confused by title. Maybe there is a difference in Norway but in UK the Pure Performance (cheapest) ID3 has 45kWh Net battery pack. There is a 55kWh (usable) model with a 58kWh (Net) battery but that is the Pro performance.

Yeah, the heat pump is a £1000 option, and the groovy interior lighting comes in the interior options package for another £2000.

4:56 371V x 125A = 46.375 kwh which is decent, and will be higher later. A bit lower than 49-50 but still good.

This is really strange, so battery has 10kwh buffer? It is quite a lot ( almost 20 %) So potenially they can make more usable capacity available later with some OTA and increase range...

I'm a bit confused. TS mentions 45 kWh a few times, but writes 55 in title and sheeeet at 9:46. I think 45 is correct here since his result of 316 km is closest to the wltp (330km) of the 45 sized battery on ID3's wikipedia page.

It doesn't, at least in Denmark. You need the design package for €2000 to get matrix LED.

It is confusing to name some cars by net capacity and some gross. This is now like naming the classic Ioniq as "Ioniq 31kWh". VW calls this car Pure (Performance) 45 kWh. AFAIK, the gross capacity 55 kWh appears pretty much nowhere in their material. To make it worse, false information about 48 kWh gross capacity has been spreading widely since 2019.
