Hello mate. Live the video, my van needs a new passenger side drive shaft and looks pretty straight forward. Will certainly keeping looking at you vids in the future. Cheers dude.

renewed driveshafts and stubshaft (and lower ball joints, anti roll links, abs sensors , gearbox oil) last weekend on my 2009 2.5 T5. i used J&R driveshaft parts , seem good. note the original stubshaft seal is a press fitting in gearbox , for removal, easier to get a screwdriver on it and tap it in the way. the new seal from J&R is hard to get in , suggest leaving it in freezer overnight to help with fitting . 👍

great video Dan - going through the same on my T5. Garage said the shaft just won't split on mine to get inner boot off and want to replace whole thing instead. Wish I had a go myself now, even with a broke ankle
@DanChambersDAC4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment. Yeah, It is so much easier to just change the whole shaft for the money they cost. Hope your ankle gets better soon.

Cheers. Out of interest, am i being a bit robbed at 270 quid all in? Also worried they are not changing the stub axle, as said its in good condition
@DanChambersDAC4 жыл бұрын
@@chatlow Are they replacing both shafts? Do you know what brand they are fitting? The shafts I used are about £125 Inc VAT and the Stub shaft.

No, just the offside driveshaft and no stub shaft. Seems pricey but maybe a good make, i should ask!

Hi Dan. Abs. I had the same problem on my T5. Did all the tests that have been suggested, then I took the motor off the abs pump to see if it fan on a bench test and it did then checked the two connections from thee abs pump and the had power, so put the motor back on to the pump body. Problem solved, so must have been a pore connection at that point, that was 3 months ago. Hop this helps.

After some research I found it was very easy to replace the stub shaft. There is a small bolt up the middle. Some are 6mm Allen key. These stubs are 137mm long and have 42 splines on the gearbox end. Another is a T40 torx easily undone with an Allen key style torx tool. There are 115mm long and have 30 splines on the gearbox end. The 3rd style I didn’t come across in my search so I cannot elaborate on that one. They have quite a strong spring on the inside so they pop out fairly vigorously when undone. To push them back in mine had a tab on the bottom of the engine to put a screwdriver in to easily push it back in. Hopefully this helps anyone wondering.

Another great vid Dan. Question for you as I need to fit my skinny cv boots (unless you're volunteering to do them for me 😉), when using axle stands to support the whole front end of the van, are they under the back end of the sub frame?
@DanChambersDAC4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and for the comment Dave! I fitted whole driveshafts so I didn't have to struggle with the boots 🤣 Yeah I usually put them under the round part of the subframe under the rear mounting bolts.

Just a tip before you start using the van. The bolts for the driveshaft MUST go in completely clean and dry. Or else they will work themself loose. Ask me how i know... It looks like you could get away with just re fitting the shaft if it gets loose, but on a mk4 golf it will guaranteed make a hole in the gear box. Googled this when it happened to me and it's a common fault og VAG, even on some Porches.
@DanChambersDAC4 жыл бұрын
Thank You for watching and for the comment! I will check that, I did clean the bolts when they came out.
