VW Tiguan - How to Fix Power Steering Failed/Not Working - Low Battery Voltage/Tyre Pressure error

The power steering on my VW Tiguan had stopped working - turns out it was the low battery that caused it despite being enough to start the car easily!
The battery caused the power steering to fail and dashboard lights show for steering wheel error, tyre pressure sensor and steering angle sensor failure. The solution was to fit a new battery and I then needed to get the steering basic settings recoded as the low voltage had corrupted them hence causing the power steering to fail.
I also found that with the new battery the stop/start system was working again where it hadn't been previously so that might also be another indication that the battery is getting beyond its best.

My power steering is not working intermittently, when I start up the car. Seems when I start the car up after having parked for 15+ minutes, there is no issue. The problem seems to occur more often after I turn off the car, and have to restart within 15 minutes. Battery is 12.5V when off, and 13.9V when idle. Fuses have been checked. I am still wondering if the battery still needs to be replaced, though. I purchased this car 6 months ago, and it has 160K miles. I'm driving a 2013 Tiguan 2.0T. Somewhere I read that a 2013 Tiguan does not require reprogramming of the battery, but you said your 2012 required reprogramming? 1. What else can I do to check the battery? 2. Can I reprogram the battery myself? If so, how?

friend is having this in a 2016 tiguan rn. I'd assume it could also be the alternator or wire from the battery or alternator going to the power steering.
