War is sad, and cruel most of the time. Looking at history, you'll quickly see that man has done really barbaric things in the past. I'm also reminded about some of the training german SS generals would go though. At the beginning they would all be given a dog. They would train, eat and sleep togheter. Then, at the end of the training they were ordered to shoot the dog, failing by even showing a sign of hesitation. No wonder they were so ruthless to humans they deemed an enemy, if they could kill an innocent animal without hesitation

Well as seen from the video it seems that the dog runs towards the tank once the owner points at it, dont think any random dog would do that especially when a tank is pretty loud it must have gone through some form of training to this like how ppl now train Rottweiler German Shepherds and Pinchers to attack somone by doing multiple drills

Didn't happen very often in WW1. Most of it happened in WW2 when the Red Army was getting desperate. If the Soviet Union fell, then the world was pretty much Nazi Germany's so I believe the dogs did not die completely in vain, even despite the fact that only a fraction of German tanks were destroyed.

In the United States, dogs have been used in warfare since World War 1. They were used as guards, messengers, and in search and rescue missions in WWI. In WWII they were used as messengers, sentries, and to detect booby traps. In Vietnam, their role expanded into direct action. They would be sent into tunnels to scare the VC out, while they still were used to find explosives and booby traps. Currently, dogs are used to find drugs, weapons, explosives, ants to find and attack the enemy. American war dogs have saved countless American lives and I do not think that America has ever used their dogs as suicide bombers. Marines like nothing more than to have two types of Marines on point in a patrol: a Marine handler and a Marine dog. Yeah, the dogs earn the title and ranks of Marines.

The war was not only cruel to the animals, but also their partners who were also trained to not create any bonds with their dogs as they knew they accompanied them only for the one aim at the end. Dogs as the living bombs that could get under the tank and the soldier could detonate at the right moment, being able to fight off his feelings in less than a second.

This comment about pain is funny because your name is "Medicine"
@YakuzaDragon873 жыл бұрын
It is painful to watch yes especially for me a dog lover that owns lots of dogs including 2 German Shepherds, but it really happened back then, Soviets, Japanese, and even Americans used war dogs (AKA Anti-tank dogs) that were used exactly like the video showed, this is actually a very educational and historically accurate video for people who didn't know about this war tactic, the Soviets alone claimed that they destroyed over 300 tanks using this method. There is nothing right or wrong from wars, only strict orders that need to be followed, back then you eighter trained your best friend to die or you would be executed for not following orders. Here is a little something from Wikipedia to whoever is interested. Anti-tank dogs were dogs taught to carry explosives to tanks, armored vehicles and other military targets. They were intensively trained by the Soviet and Russian military forces between 1930 and 1996, and used from 1941 to 1943, against German tanks in World War II. Initially dogs were trained to leave a timer-detonated bomb and retreat, but this routine was replaced by an impact-detonation procedure which killed the dog in the process. The U.S. military started training anti-tank dogs in 1943 in the same way the Russians used them, but this training exposed several problems and the program was discontinued. The original idea was for a dog to carry a bomb strapped to its body, and reach a specific static target. The dog would then release the bomb by pulling with its teeth a self-releasing belt and return to the operator. The bomb could then be detonated either by a timer or remote control, though the latter was too rare and expensive at the time to be used. A group of dogs practiced this for six months, but the reports show that no dogs could master the task. They performed generally well on a single target but became confused after the target or location was changed and often returned to the operator with the bomb unreleased, which in a live situation would have killed both the dog and the operator.[3] Continual failures brought about a simplification. The bomb was fastened on the dog and detonated upon contact with the target, killing the animal. Whereas in the first program, the dog was trained to locate a specific target, this task was simplified to find any enemy tank. Dogs were trained by being kept hungry and their food was placed under tanks. The tanks were at first left standing still, then they had their engines running, which was further combined with sporadic blank-shot gunfire and other battle-related distractions. This routine aimed to teach the dogs to run under the tanks in battlefield situations.[3] Each dog was fitted with a 10-12-kilogram (22-26 lb) mine carried in two canvas pouches adjusted individually to each dog. The mine had a safety pin which was removed right before the deployment; each mine carried no markings and was not supposed to be disarmed. A wooden lever extended out of a pouch to about 20 centimetres (7.9 in) in height. When the dog dived under the tank, the lever struck the bottom of the tank and detonated the charge. Because the underparts of the chassis were the most vulnerable area of these vehicles, it was hoped the explosion would disable the vehicle. The Imperial Japanese Army received about 25,000 dogs from their ally Germany and organized several dog training schools in Japan, and one in China at Nanjing. In 1943, U.S. forces considered using armed dogs against fortifications. The aim was for a dog to run into a bunker carrying a bomb, which would then be detonated by a timer. Dogs in this secret program were trained at Fort Belvoir. The dogs, called "demolition wolves", were taught to run to a bunker, enter it, and sit while waiting for a simulated explosion. Each dog carried a bomb strapped to its body in canvas pouches, as with the Russian method. The program was terminated on 17 December 1943 out of safety concerns. During the training, dogs often returned to the senders without entering the bunker or waiting there for supposed period of time which would have caused friendly casualties in a live fire situation. It was feared that in the actual battle, dogs would return much more often, scared by enemy fire. Attempts to continue the program in 1944 and 1945 failed.[10] In 2005, insurgents attempted to use a bomb-equipped dog during the Iraq War. The dog was detonated without inflicting damage.[11] More often, donkeys were used, as they were more reliable. Donkeys are traditionally equipped with sacks and thus could carry a large explosive charge without looking suspicious.

I understand the heart for a dogs life, but in a time of war, would it have been more important to you to save a dog or your Country? Your family? Your friends? To me, thousands of human lifes’ are worth a brave dog. So where’s the thinking aye?

Ikr, and the top comments section replies are like "Just use a human to be the suicide bomber", they're all thinking a dog's more important than a human life, smh.

What did we do to deserve such respect from dogs? We are sinners worth of nothing, yet if a dog gets attached to you there’s no way it’d hate you ever.. They are the purest form of life that ever existed, we do not deserve them, or ever will..

No entiendo porque no los hacen en español o por lo menos con cosas que hagan ver que es de Chile. No se, para hacer notar a Chile en estos campos.
@Axonautsanimation6 жыл бұрын
@ElLavaCucas6 жыл бұрын

If anyone hasn’t commented about this already, this was an actual Soviet WW2 tactic. Used dogs with bags of bombs to take out tanks, so human lives were not risked instead. Though, it didn’t work well, because the dogs were linked up on a timer, rather then a detonator like in the film’s depiction. And due to it being a timer, you can’t exactly stop it from ticking. When the dogs ran to the tanks, they would often be scared by the tank’s guns firing, and run back to their lines, blowing up their own soldiers.

It’s heartbreaking when emotional attachment comes to a dog you know needs to die to destroy the tank. You can only just imagine some of the Soviet Soldiers in WWII who did these tactics consistently to destroy German tanks.
